The first ingredient is the one you are born with: ability. Great lacrosse players have that 6th sense, that great 360 degree vision, great players use their ears, they listen, they hear. In short, great players can be formed, but great players do things never seen before, and most importantly, they love lacrosse. I grew up watching Jimmy Lewis play. He went to the Wall and perfected his game. I would follow him like some stalker, down to Uniondale High School. He would play all kinds of games against the Wall. I became a Wall devotee, playing with both hands and a wooden stick. I made myself a great stick handler. The hours at the Wall gave me ultra-stong hands, arms and wrists. My favorite drill was shooting the ball as hard as I could and catching it behind my ear. Jump rope, go to the Wall, and most importantly, get the job done in the classroom, I forgot to mention, lacrosse players are smarter.

I totally agree, I was a 4 spot a year guy. Won 13 Championships in 5 different spot and went pro in 1. I’m 45 now, and having my first training of of a lax player. You need the other spots also to understand the spot your Focusing on better. And it helps you in way just doing one spot can never do alone.

I think an alternative idea to those that really wanna expand on their lax game would be to branch out to other athletes that play in other positions, figure out how their minds work, how they play lacrosse. Figure out new ways to play the game. Dont just keep playing the same game of lacrosse because im sure theres players out there that did only play lacrosse. But like for me, i play chess, soccer, lax. Soccer helps with my footwork and positioning, motion, agility and stuff like that. Chess with strategy. Theres so many more things in life you can apply to sports and such. You just have to learn to be creative. While yeah sure playing a sport will help you, so can other things. Videogames are very competitive and strategic. They can require mechanical skill too. Weightlifting alone teaches technique.

I think this is a great video and you covered everything very well, I also agree with what you're saying. Although, there's definitely the one-off single Specialty athlete who excels only given one sport training. I excelled in every sport I played at every single level of the sport because I played multiple Sports my entire life from a very young age. I played soccer and baseball since i could walk. I picked up my first lacrosse stick at grade 6 and walked straight to varsity my freshman year of HighSchool.

If I could go back, I would have practiced lefty 2x harder and It would have really improved my overall abilities. It's easy to practice dodge drills, shooting drills, give and goes, and passing drills with your dominant hand. FORCE yourself to practice what you're not the best at! Put in more effort each and everyday than everyone around you!

My son wrestles in the winter and football in the fall. Wrestling has helped his explosiveness and endurance. Also has helped his mental game. Football honestly has helped his Dodge and vision of the field and reading what defenders are doing. I wish more wrestlers here played lacrosse because those kids are all gas no brakes.

As much as I hate baseball, it is very important to lacrosse. Understanding the proper throwing motion helps you learn the physics of a quality throw/shot in lacrosse. It helps with your feet/hip/shoulder alignment for one thing. But the mechanic of stretching your arm/hand back, then bending your elbow to generate torque translates directly to the mechanics of a powerful push/pull shot with your stick. Again, I think the sport itself is boring and sucks. But never discount the lessons you can take from one skill and translate it into another
