In this video I talk about what I think is the secret to awesome off camera flash wedding photography - and that is learning to control the light well using modifiers.
I explain exactly why controlling the light, and limiting the spill of the light from our off camera flashes, is so important. Controlling the light with modifiers really is the difference between a good OCF photograph and a bad one.
I also demonstrate just how big a difference using MagMod modifiers makes to the spill of the light, but showing you what happens if we don't use a modifier compared to using one MagMod Grid, then two MagGrids, a MagSnoot and then two MagGrids and a MagSnoot at the same time.
The difference which these MagMod modifiers make is absolutely huge!

    Neil wonderful video, I have been using Magmod Magsphere now for so much, and I have the gel packs and magbounce, but I want to learn so much more. I also use Godox V860ii and I shoot with Fuji X-T30 and X-T4, I am wanting to step up my game now and learn OCF. You have a new sub and yes I love Magmod. Question, I have the speedlite what do you recommend I add to my inventory I am defiantly getting another Proffesional lite kit and 1 Snoot, But what additional light AD200 or ?? I am a wedding and Portrait Photographer

    very nice tuto. i have just discovered magmod and have now magbox, magsnoot, magbeam, maggrid and i am fan... However, I am just wondering, is it different using two grids on site than making a good photograph with 105mm zoomed flash and adding several graduated filters and radial filters exposure -0.5 + vignette in post production under lightroom ?

    Neil, since you have some of the best videos on OCF, and Gelling, do you ever use an Expodisc for color balance?

  • @NeilRedfern

    @NeilRedfern

    10 ай бұрын

    Thank you very much, that is very kind. God questions - no, I don't use anything like that as I fix white balance in post - plus I rarely like the "correct" white balance, I usually prefer to shooting at a warmer kelvin on purpose

    Just received a MagMod starter kit and a V860 11. I must say though, I'm really disappointed with the V860 11, the banding pattern it produces, especially zoomed in is awful. But loving the MagMod and your channel of course. All the best, Andy.

    When you were summing up at the end I realised you left the flash zoomed at 200mm and how much brighter/concentrated it looked. Do you always have the flash fully zoomed like that when you’re using grids or snoots?

  • @NeilRedfern

    @NeilRedfern

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hi Allan, good question. Yes, in general I do tend to have the speedlights zoomed in, because as you can see the snoot/grid overrides the 200mm anyway to something much more like 400mm so you may as well have the speedlight zoomed in. I hope that makes sense?
