The secret of REALISTIC TEXTURES | Material channels explained

Фильм және анимация

In this tutorial, I talk about materials and textures. Ever wondered what is the difference between materials and textures? There's a bit of theory for you too. I explain Diffuse, Bump, Specular, Roughness, Normal and Displacement channels and how they work.
What is the secret behind realistic textures and how to create them? I created a realistic material from scratch and you will see the process from taking a photo to final animated result. I am using Cinema 4D, Adobe Photoshop and Octane Render engine.

As I scramble myself across the depth of internet in almost desparate educational efforts I gather theoretical knowledge. I know that stuff but seeing it presented by different people in a different way twice or thrice helps to turn that info in fundaments... practicing of course as well (if you have a good renderer or the nerves to wait for the slower ones ;d). Latest versions of Photoshop has the option in Filter>3D> Generate Bump or Normal Maps... may be not better then custom maps but an automative process helps to investigate what is what and how it affects the light flow across the surface. Love the owl.... Oooooh! also like how you njoy yourself and have fun when doing those tutorials. Thanks for the work and we are eager for the next ones!

Love watching your videos, I like how you explain things clearly, and I have learned a fair bit about photoshop that I didn't know existed, as someone who has a subscription I don't use it often enough, and knowing I can make high tes textures thanks to making multiple shots of the same area has really excited me! Thanks!

Excellent!!! The whole video was well done, down to your advice on feeling the texture. Only artists understand the advice you give on feeling what you're doing. Artists who don't feel their work very rarely make great works of art!

Excellent tut. I like tutorials that remind us that human beings create art not machines. Just pushing buttons will only get you so far. Like you say in the tut, the extra effort going the extra mile is what makes you stand out.
