The Secret Life and Difficult Final Years of Jack Lord Steve McGarrett Hawaii Five-O
The Secret Life and Difficult Final Years of Jack Lord Steve McGarrett Hawaii Five-O.
Jack Lord was an American actor and director, best known for his portrayal of Steve McGarrett in the popular television series "Hawaii Five-O" from 1968 to 1980. Born on December 30, 1920, in New York City, Lord began his acting career on Broadway in the 1940s before transitioning to film in the 1950s. He appeared in several notable films such as "Dr. No" (1962), the first James Bond movie, and "The Hangman" (1964). However, it was his role as the tough and no-nonsense police detective Steve McGarrett in "Hawaii Five-O" that made him a household name. In addition to his acting career, Lord was also an accomplished artist and had exhibitions of his paintings and sculpture. He passed away on January 21, 1998, in Honolulu, Hawaii, but his iconic portrayal of Steve McGarrett continues to inspire and entertain audiences to this day.

Back in the day, me too and every single week I just had to spin around with him during that opening scene where he turns around on that balcony lol. Oh for those wonderful innocent childhood days again. The funny thing about this show though, is that although it was deemed fit for children to watch, it dealt with a lot of adult themes which I guess I didn't really quite grasp as a kid back then but when I see it now I can understand it a lot better and despite all of the technology we have today, things haven't really changed much in terms of how people behave, relationships etc and shows like this often reflect it in an entertaining kind of a way. Many thanks.

The OG Hawaii Five-O was one of the best series ever and Jack Lord was a huge reason. His estate donated 40 million dollars to Hawaii Community Fund.

Loved 5-0 as a kid. That theme song and his swagger was inspiring to a young boy. RIP Mr. Lord.
In Malaysia,1968, I was 14 & started watching this series from 1971. Tough & no nonsense character Steve Mc'Garret. Miss u.man.
I loved him. Watched every episode, still watch it today.
Jack was great in Hawaii 5-0, and I am sorry that his private life had some very hurtful times. But when someone has a child they should make every effort to be there and support that child. I was a single parent and saw what it did to my son, when he realized that his father didn't care about him. Jack should have been there for his son.

My husband and I recently started watching the original Hawaii Five-O. At first we were just tuning in for the sake of nostalgia but then we realized that it’s a quality, classic show with really interesting plots! The memories are fun and it’s refreshing to watch a show that was filled with good characters of all races WITHOUT all of the woke messaging shoe horned in to every episode. It was a clean show, too. 👍🤟

Jack Lord Rest In Peace.
One thing I really admired about Jack’s role on Hawaii 5-0 was how much respect he had for his other actors on the show.
Love Hawaii Five O! Jack Lord played his part well, great Actor, his legacy lives on. Great upload.👍🏽💗
Jack Lord was known to me as Stoney Burke, had a Dodge Pick Up truck and hauled his horse for the series! He was a rodeo star back in that time period! Yes, Jack became a big black and white star in Hawaii 5 O!
He was almost Cpatain Kirk, but asked for to much $$. Loved him as McGarrent but glad Shatner got the role.
I grew up watching Jack lord in the 1970s
Jack Lord was also in the first James Bond movie, "Dr. No." He played the CIA character, Felix Leiter.
I couldn't imagine meeting my son only one time
There is a life size bronze bust of Jack Lord at the Kahala Mall in Honolulu

Jack Lord was my neighbor in Kahala, Hawaii. I last saw him just before he passed away. He has snow white hair and his wife was helping him into their car.
He's the ONLY Steve McGarrett
He definitely had brass ones, - wanting equal billing with Sean Connery as Felix in Bond films, and wanted a piece of ownership in the show when offered the Captain Kirk role in Star Trek. He eventually got what he wanted in HFO, though it did shackle him to that role the rest of the way.
He played Felix Leither of the c.i.a. in the 1st James Bond movie called Dr. No.

We used to see him at polo up in Mokuleia in the early 1980s. He always wore a wide-brimmed straw hat, didn't look particularly well to me. Hawaii 5-0 the best cop show, ever!
No mention of Jack’s appearance in the James Bond film “Dr No”
We waited all week to gear the 5-0 music intro. ThIS man was The MAN.
Although it was not a big part, this did not mention his part in "Dr. No," the first important James Bond flick. He was "Felix Leiter" who was a badass!

Did anybody else notice Elizabeth Montgomery standing next to him in that picture at 4:40? Damn, she was beautiful.

I still watch Hawaii 5 o. They kept his hair neat. I believe it was a weave and hair pieces. He dressed sharp and had a model body. U can tell he drank , but who didn't drink smoke and do drugs in hollywood????????
Hardly difficult
Something seems wrong with the statement that he was devastated by the loss of his 13 year old son, who he had met only once. 8:08 I can't help but wonder if he went to the funeral? It's none of my business, but I most certainly hope so.
My dad was born in December of 1920
Yea...But I'm still going..ty
Also Felix Leiter, CIA agent in Dr. No.
I never saw him play anything but the bad guy side on all the westerns he was in. Hawaii 5 O was the only show I know of where he was a good guy. I have issues with Hawaii, so never cared for it at all.
Jack was also offered the role of Captain Kirk. He got greedy. Wanted way WAY to much $$$.

@briannichols4807

One actress on Hawaii Five-0 said he wore a toupee , but an actor who routinely guest starred in the show said no , it was his own hair , he just sprayed a lot of hair spray in it , or earlier on , hair gel , which I agree with him . Because if you watch a scene from a fourth season episode called " R&R&R" , he's walking out on a tarmac at the airport to meet someone and his hair is just really blowing in the wind , just like it's his own . If it were a toupee , it would have blown off , or loose at the front . Even if he did wear a toupee , he wouldn't have been the only entertainer at that time to wear one , like Burt Reynolds , John Wayne , Frank Sinatra , Bing Crosby , etc. The first three guys listed I have seen pictures and early movie footage of them with thinning hair so I knew they wore toupees , not Jack Lord though .

I always thought Jack Lord was the best and better McGarrett. Because he could play it best. Then came the series from 2000. That was the only way the main actor could do it, and he wasn't quite up to McGarrett's original. The main actor didn't fit in with the time being and also not with the character. Jack Lord could and always will be the better McGarrett. And that's what you saw at the end. Because the McGarrett from 2000 had reached its physical limits. That's why I think and found that Jack Lord was the better McGarrett. Even so, he was the better actor for the role. Not the Australian. Sorry to the Australian. It wasn't you. The better one was Jack Lord
Not a nice person
The show "Hawaii five O" was passable pap, I did not go for Lord or the NCI:Miami star David Caruso there is/was something 'off' about them. "Why is Iran called Persia? The term Persia was used for centuries and originated from a region of southern Iran formerly known as Persis, alternatively as Pārs or Parsa, modern Fārs. The use of the name was gradually extended by the ancient Greeks and other peoples to apply to the whole Iranian plateau.: For most of history, the tract of land now called Iran was known as Persia. It wasn't until 1935 that it adopted its present name.J"
