The Secret Coastal Route - Scotland Winter Vanlife Travels

As we continue to be caught up in the storms that are battering scotland this winter it seems this week it was the high winds that brought down so many trees that caused the biggest disruption to our travel routes.
The worrying problem was the failure of the diesel heater though, we can always do our best to dodge the storms but a broken diesel heater in freezing temperatures is just not fun at all, so replacing the heater was an absolute must no matter how rough the working conditions.
We managed to get our more this week and had a fantastic walk along the mountains to see some epic views, which were made even nicer by the appearance of the sun for a few hours just before the snow returned!!
Let's also not forget to mention the stunning waterside parkup in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by mountains and water it was one of our best parkups for a while.

I agree with Mandy 💯 - there is no need for negative comments. Also no need for people to leave a parting shot and then unsubscribe. If you don’t like it then leave. Too much negativity in the world. And, your content is good and happy (except for John’s recent injury) and real. I bomb around a lot on KZread, but you are one of my staples - I watch every video. So, keep on! You have a solid base who love you! ❤

I’ve only found your channels recently and love them both, you both keep it real and show it how it is rather than sugar coated, Mandy I enjoy your ‘extra chat’ as am the same age as you and having the same struggles so it’s nice to see menopause talked about. John I love your drone shots and watching you get stuck in and fix things. I built my own little camper last year and look forward to being brave enough to visit all the lovely places you show us. Take care up there ☺️

I just call mine 18 quid jeans off Bolton Market🤣 Ever since I got Viv my family coined a few names for me. The first one is "Captain slow" on account of I dont see the point of zooming through places in Viv-i-van when I can enjoy the drive and that was an epic drive you both went on. That park up.....wow and a dark skiesarea too. I'd have whipped me D850 out of its bag, plopped it on the tripod and done some "Lets do some photograph the milky way" sessions. The other name my family have for me is "Mr Reverso" On account that I'm utter pants at it. even when reversing-even with reversing and rear view camera on her roof I'm useless at backing up. I'd have been crying reversing back on that road lol.....and a few shouty swear words too. Great video both of you. It's brilliant to see you both still have that magic touch to make great videos together. Much respect🙏- Kenny

That reverse driving you both had to do was amazing. Good job. I would be so nervous as I don’t really like to back up. It seems that there should have been a notice that the road was closed . I am looking forward to the next adventure. Hope the weather is more cooperative.

Morning John, can i check what size wheels you have? I remember in one vid abroad I think you mentioned Euro vans were a bigger wheel leading to better gearing ratios less engine load etc or did i get that wrong? your website had a link for 16" but cant remember if that was existing wheels or new revised Euro bigger wheels?, think changing wheel size would potentially also change speed calibration? did you manage to find somewhere that can do that if required?

Hi again you stayed in my favourite spot , Its a hidden secret please don't give to much details of where it is, if you two walk back to where the little White House it and follow the track there is a beautiful little pub in the woods . 20 mins walk over that river you don't want to talk about what way it goes once you get over the river by the silver iron bridge cross the field and the pub is behind the tree.I went there for 2 weeks and stayed for 5 months last year.Donny Wilcox lives in walking distance there. Stunning in summer time and dangerous in the water, Have a look next time your there Connel bridge is a giant bath with the plug pulled out lol. Thanks for sharing nice to see the place in winter time. There is a toilet there by where you parked get cleaned twice a week. My heater does the same, smokes but doesn't fire up, the glow plug is pulling 8 amp so that's ok. Your mate ( ex army lad cant recall his name ) his heater was doing the same also. I have figured it out. At the side of the glow plug is a small hole for the initial combustion air and it is blocked up. Just needs poking clear with a pointy nail. 👍 ( You will probably need to give the atomiser mesh a clean too and be sure it is below and clear of said hole when reinstalled )

Happy new year and happy, safe travels in it, both! Now, here’s a northern thing. Do you say “It’s fleein’” when it’s freezing cold? 16 miles north of Manchester (Rossendale) we do/did (long since moved away) but only a fellow ‘refugee’ from there has heard of the word where I now live. Ah, the days when every little town has its own accent, etc. Anyway, thanks for all your great filming and videos. Laura

I am, like Mandy, love to learn about the animals around. ...scat is an easy way to be know and be dazzled by what wild creature was just where you are now walking. I love seeing you two get along. Cooking is good. Mending from mishaps is good to see. I like seeing technical problems solved. The awesome campsite that had great things for you as a camper-good to see acts of kindness still allowed. Great seeing the scenery whatever the weather. I love that you found a good way, with having two spaces...kinda important to have own space. ...love that you show how that can work and love still abound.

Crikey though, it would have been good for a sign to have been up about that road block... oh well. Good skills test... YAM xx

The first unbranded diesel heater we fitted in our motorhome worked flawlessly in -20°C and is still working fine for the new owner. So from that experience it made no sense to spend money on expensive brands, however, I’m thinking more recently produced unbranded heaters are far less well made and we therefore might be looking at buyer branded heaters for our vans soon.
