Oh look, another KZread beatmaker who doesn't know shit about J Dilla.
4:46 Fun fact: Slim Kid Tre and Fatlip (of the Pharcyde) fought over Dilla's drum programming on "Runnin'". Slim was fine with how the drums were programmed, but Fatlip was a traditionalist and wanted the drums quantized and without the extra ghost notes. On the single, there's a lifeless quantized version that Fatlip wanted. It's trash to say the least 😂😂😂. The name is "Runnin' [Smooth Extended Mix]" if you wanna check it out.

Cuz it is true, even when u see synths, we tend to like analog synth more than digital because of the imperfections it has. Very philosophical
Love the documentary type editing style! Keep it up!💯

Phenomenal vid bro RIP the goat
“This hurts..” hahaha hilarious. Thanks for making this video Ed
Sampling is probably my favorite part of making beats. Thank you Dilla, and thank you Ed for sharing this. A lot of younger producers starting out don’t know anything about Dilla⭐️
Amazing!! Thank you for this Dilla video! I'm a HUGE J Dilla fan myself! However I think you missed one crucial thing about his drums.. The snare and the clap! Mad props, brother! Can't wait for your next video!
I really like this style of video Ed! Cool to see some music history and then see you apply it and make a beat using Dilla's influence
Video quality's are insane lately!!! Amazing editting work, and I've learned a lot💯Keep it up
I was just binge-watching videos about Dilla here on youtube and saw you uploaded this! It is just fascinating to me how the love and respect for him we share connect us all like how his music has and will always do. Long Live Dilla🙏
Ed, you make a lot of videos I really enjoy a lot but this one is one of my favorite videos on KZread. I hope you make a series out of this video idea! Keep up the great work :)
I'm surprised you are actually doing this a lot people over look or forget this man
I've had this in my queue for a while and I'm so glad I finally got to watch it. Fantastic as always, very informative. Plus that beat is fire!
Love your music production history videos. They are so interesting and your the only one I’ve seen doing them. Keep it up they are awesome!
I really enjoyed this video! You show a grand appreciation of Dilla and his Brilliance. And what a joy to witness your deep dive as to why he was dope. Much Props!
I See that your edits are slowly becoming better and better...keep grinding man i proud of you.
So much better than repetitive synths and obnoxious 808s. Im so jaded by the same old crap trap beats every single beat maker is doing on youtube. This was super refreshing...too short, but refreshing.
This is some true inspiration! Its not always about being perfect! Thanks for the video bro!
Love these videos🙏🏽 appreciate you Ed!!
This Was Dope, I'm Always Really Inspired After Watching Your Videos, This Is Just Proof Of This Again

Damn Ed's video editing skills are on a next level. So smoooth!
Cool video. Thank you for this
Great video bro, much love from Detroit!
You're actually really good at producing this style...like most of us oldschoolers...there's a certain amount of soul that gets generated through crate dig flips...and boom bap is the answer to those grooves.
what an inspiration, great video btw
Great video!
Fire video, love Dilla, love the vid
Great video!!!! That beat at the end was nice!
Make more videos like this bro ;) was fun to watch and very inspiring!!!
Dilla is king 👑 I had already planned on signing up for TrackLib so glad I watched this. Great content! Subscribed

Great content Man. 👌
really enjoyed this one!!
Simply exceptional. Well done Ed.
Thank you for doing this video bro
Awesome video 🤟🏻
Sick!🌟
Good one ED!
might be my favorite video from you bro! please make similar videos were you breakdown someone's sound 💯
Great video 👍. This definitely works for non-beats music too. I like to think about whether the "drummer" is pushing or dragging at any particular point in the groove to try to deepen the pocket.
Love your Videos..!!
Great Video Ed! 🤲🏼✨
What a video🙌 And the fact that you started producing hip-hop because of Dilla 🖖
He is a true Legend 🔥
this is something I never realized I need it but wow
Great video 👍🏻 new to the channel but I’m impressed, I started producing hip hop beats just over a month ago, after I started remixing vocals to some of my favourite hip hop beats and artists I would of liked to hear on that beat, done that for a month or so then decided to start making my own beats. I’ve been picking beat making up fairly quick and already made a fair few beats, people have been impressed with, I feel this channel will help me to level up 👌🏻 top job 👍🏻
The Editing is actually flawless
History is in session 🖊
So Dope!!!Dilla Changed My Life Too!!!🔥❗❗❗
Thank you 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
J Dilla secret weapon was on the Kick Drum. His Kick Drum and programming sound like no other.
Bro the edits are wild man!
Oh my god , hard bro ♥🔥
I watch you videos like just for some month now and your production has improved hugely over that time! Very nice style you have here. Just a small critique: I would love to have the video some minutes longer to see and hear your beat more in depth in the end (like playing it for 2 minutes at the end to better understand it). Became a big fan, keep it up!
One of the beat dilla video on the internet !! Respect ✊🏻
Nice video going to listen to his music
Dope shit
I love this video bro...thank you for the education.please what software are you using to do this very very could video. The annotations and everything is Soo dope bro
Such an epic video.
great video bro
I feel like this should be teached in school haha Nice Vid!! I love how you put some respect on dillas name
Love it :D
More contents like this Ed!
Great vidéo. ok, now the same job with the vinyls, an MPC 3000, without quantize, sampler in 45 rpm, all on a 1.44 mo floppy disk. and the work force that dilla has accomplished is enormous in addition to his talent with the groove that he has brought to us. Dilla used the mpc 3000 filter a lot on the kicks.
Heater video folk good shit
4:19 liked the visual
Dj screw and dilla are kings of choppin up sounds
🔥 BEAT!!
this is a legendary video ed thanks for the education as well as the good tips and tricks.
Dope Sir 👍
Dude so interesting! cool vid
