I might as well face it.. i am ADDICTED TO LOVE!

I think kindness/compassion has its value and can be cultivated through loving-kindness meditation as well as acting kind. Gratitude also has its value, like remembering the good someone has done for you, rather than thinking, "What have you done for me lately?" When it comes to achieving Self-Actualization, I think more is involved than compassion. Some people seem to package compassion as the Ultimate Good that answers all of life's difficult questions. Even if this isn't said explicitly, it becomes implicit (like among Christians and Meditators) when kindness is all they talk about the good life having. In my view, there is more to life than kindness. Kindness is good, but there is more to the human condition.

Never knew kindness has so many benefits! 😝

After 3 hours of researching a multitude of brain chemicals and such..I want to ask the question: How does the simple act of kindness (explained here) differ from acts of kindness in hopes of a return? Simply..doing things to receive things. Sorry if i brought up some negativity but I think there's some merit to discuss the differences between the two.

+Michael Neuendorf When you expect a reward but don't receive it it causes disappointment which can lead to a decrease in motivation and (in this case) may make you less likely to act kind as motivation decreases, but if you see kindness as its own reward then you will not suffer a decrease in motivation and are more likely to continue being kind. It's similar to exercise where scientists measured two groups of people. 1. People who were exercising to lose weight/look better. 2. People who were exercising simply for the sake of exercising or to feel good. They found that the people who exercised for a reward (to lose weight) were more likely to lose motivation and stop exercising because after several weeks of little to no change they felt that they weren't getting the reward they expected and gave up. On the other hand people who saw exercising as a reward itself (or did it just for the sake of exercising) did not experience the loss of motivation because they didn't look forward to any reward other than the exercise itself so they didn't experience any disappointment. Of course if you do receive the reward then the positive effects will be just as good (if not greater) but disappointment has several negative effects on mental and physical health and can cause a severe drop in motivation. Of course i'm no scientist so you don't have to take everything i say as fact. Instead I encourage you to do research on the topic yourself, it is quite interesting and you will learn a lot about human psychology.

I think every act of kindness has an element of selfishness in it. Not saying it's bad, just that even when we do acts of kindness, at the very least, we do it to attain the good feeling it gives us. Not completely unlike a drug. So in response, I don't think it differs much. As one response mentioned about the material gain not happening so you feel bad. The same can happen when you just do a kind act for he sake of helping another, the person you are trying to help may be offended and get mad for you helping, or they may feel even worse because they thought they were hiding it well. It's all very relative I think, but there are lines that blur.

That is so cool!

Are you sure you don't have problems with the date in your computer. That problem also appears when your provider (usually in ethernets) has funky security settings. For example, i get that message at work from gmail.

To those who are wondering what the point of kindness is if you don't get it back I have two anwers for you: Exxpecting kindness in return takes away to true essence of your act in the first place; true kindness is selfless, you just give because you see the equality in other people and therefore acknowledge your own humble self. Being kind also opens you up more. Everyone has their own view of reality which means that each and everyone of us has so much to give and teach that only each individual with their own experiences can see, simply because we all have different experiences. Aside from opening you up it also makes you more receiving for exactly those messages from other people. You've seen the science of kindness in this video, this is the philosophy behind it. If you want to go even deeper and are willing to enter the more spiritual path; we are all nature representing itself through us. That last line was repeating all what I've said before, say it from a different perspective. You see what I did there? I wish all you readers a great day. :)

Sorry but this bored me. I like the video better. Do not get me wrong. To succeed all levels need to be reach and/or tried. Keep up the good work and hit every avenue you can as per all people are different. All see this comment and not like this then look more into them. Great cause.
