Definitely important to mention L-carnitine metabolites considering their concerning effects. Intestinal microbiota metabolism of l-carnitine is shown to produce TMAO and to accelerate atherosclerosis, heart disease, and cancer. Gotta be responsible with the reporting and not only share the potential positive effects of supplementation

This is assuming tmao is dangerous. The research is rather shaky if tmao does cause any of those effects. It’s only been shown that some people with cancer had higher tmao levels, is that causative? Who knows but considering our bodies make tmao in the gut I pose the questions why our bodies would make something that allegedly does so much damage…?

L-Carnitines, similiar to creatines benefits fade away once usage is stopped and as creatine, does not require on-off cycling. Bioavailability of L-Carnitine taken orally is about 10% so its recommended to take anywhere from 2 grams up to 7 grams as it is very heavily tolerated and has no adverse effects. You can also get doctor prescribed L-Carnitine via intramusscular injection where bioavailability is 100% so the injected dose is usually anywhere from 200mgs up to 2 grams according to Dr. Kyle Gillett

  • @larsnystrom6698

@5kribbles A very short scan of research confirmed your concerns, and gave me this story: The gut microbiome converts L-Carnitine into TMAO, which causes arteriosclerosis. Berberine counteracts that effect of the gut mucrobiome. And yes, the research seems to indicate that it's not just an accociation between TMAO and arteriosclerosis. It's actually causative. The increase of TMAO with L-Carnitine was very robust. The research on Berberine was with Coline induced TMAO, not L-Carnitine. I don't know if it's the same bacteria. So if it works for L-Carnitine too is yet unknown.

Carnitine is great, but you should review beta-alanine and ALCAR. Beta-alanine is a precursor to Carnosine another promising amino acid, that might be more efficient than taking carnosine directly. ALCAR (acetyl-l-carnitine) has an easier time crossing the BBB.

Citrulline is a precusor to Arginine, not Carnitine.

@@jonnull You are right, editing out the Citrulline comment. I think I meant to say beta-alanine, a better precursor to "Carnosine" which is a different amino-acid with some promising health research. Citrulline and other Nitric-Oxide producers are great for a workout but have more conflicting evidence regarding long term benefits.

Pretty sure the muscle failure you're talking about with anaerobic weight lifting is more dealing with nerve refraction rather than lactate production.

I took this in liquid form, i didn't feel any difference whatsoever, however, my sweat started to stink so much, it became unbearable. I never had issues with sweating. Even the clothes after washing continued to smell. I do not recommend it at all. It took me maybe 6 months to fix my sweat smell again and if you want to be walking skunk, go ahead hahah. I gave you friendly warning
