Complete walkthrough of the Tangerine Microtan 65 text adventure “Adventure 7.1 The Sceptre of Hamloth” (1981) by I. Dickinson.
A couple of glitches are apparent in this walkthrough. I am unsure whether they are bugs in the original code, or some sort of emulation/snapshot issue.
The first is that there is a superfluous character at the end of the inventory listing. Second is the move count shown on completion of the game is incorrect. On completing the game several times, this always appears to be a small random number. In addition the program appears to lock up when the game ends (either as a result of quitting, the player getting killed, or winning the game). Fortunately this issue does not affect playing the game.
Hint: In Fabrice Frances' Java Microtan emulator, CTRL-H functions as the backspace key, allowing deletion of typos whilst playing.
Also, thanks very much to Garry on the CASA forums for posting the following useful tip, which I used to capture this walkthrough (otherwise the emulator window is the wrong size):-
open the microtan.java source file, look for the line that says microtanFrame.setSize(264,283);, change the values to 272,294 and recompile it.
