Usborne Publishing's Weird Computer Games was one of the books I ordered from the school book club back in 1984. I only had an unexpanded VIC-20 at the time and this game needed extra memory. I had typed in all of the other listings from the book but I had always been interested in playing this final game "Micro Puzzle" by Les Howarth as I had missed out on it back in the day. The Usborne books always encouraged readers to add their own sound and graphics (specific to their particular system) to the BASIC listings to improve the games. This release as "Micro Adventure" has to be the ultimate example of that. Really amazed by the effort and quality put into these graphics - excellent job by John Blythe of Rucksack Games.

This was a public domain game made by a fan.

Yes, that's correct. For anyone who may be interested, page 20 of Acorn User 168 (May 1996) available at 8bs.com/aumags.htm has an interview with the author, Robert Titman discussing the Arm'D and dangerous PD software group. Although it was two years before this game was released.

Hey! Who would have thought I'd see my game on here after so many years. 😀 Definitely a flashback and a tear. I was 19 when I wrote that. Lol. Thanks for sharing it. Definitely nostalgic to watch. 😀😀

@@benkid77 Do you have the original cassette? Or did you pull it from the web? I have looked for the P.A.W. from Gilsoft and can never find one for sale. Be fun to write another one, now the speccy is back in style again. 😄

@@rcary No cassette sorry. Can't remember exactly where I got it from as was a few years ago now, but was probably spectrumcomputing.co.uk/entry/10843/ZX-Spectrum/A_Journey_One_Spring . I migrated purely to emulation some years ago, since I use a large number of different 8-bit systems, it was just easier to reduce them all down to one laptop and no physical media.

Sorry for the long delay in replying. Sounds like you are using the known broken version of this game which has been on the Internet for some years. The same version as this one:- www.sinclairzxworld.com/viewtopic.php?p=31496#p31496 I have replicated the problem in that version and I can confirm that these bugs make it impossible to complete. Instead, please download and play the fixed version as used in this walkthrough. The Google Drive link is provided in this video's description above. Thanks for the walkthrough! :) I have tried to download the dsk you linked but it seems unreadable using TIDIR... are you sure it is ok?

  • @benkid77

Hello, You are welcome. I have just tested this. It seems the dsk filename is too long for TIDIR, so please rename it to a shorter name and then it will work fine in TIDIR. Best wishes.

Awesome. I remember dialing in to the school VAX back in the early 90s to play this game. I never did manage to finish it. Now I have thanks to you and my simh emulation.

Thanks for this... as potentially one of (if not the earliest "original") British home-computer text adventures it's nice to have a solution & walkthrough for this.

Nice to see a Sam adventure get the KZread treatment. Being a Sam Coupe owner back in the day, and a member of the Sam Adventure Club of which Phil Glover was the editor, I played this one when it came out.
