When this happened, I honestly think that everyone forgot about the game and just prayed for Damar Hamlin. The game didn't matter anymore. A young man's life is what mattered to everyone. I am just so glad that the medical crew took such swift action and kept his heart beating. I am thankful that he lived and I am also thankful that he is able to lead his normal life.

@planeedits4686 Actually, you are right. The good thing was that the valves of his heart were 2orking, which means he could get oxygenated blood, going through his aorta vein, so if the valves didn't work blood wouldn't be able to pump and it will kill him.

You use the words:"God bless". I wish that people would acknowledge God even more than what they do. Long story short:I came across footage, of a Man who had a Heart Attack, and died... right in a Church! However, there was a Medical Team in that Church, that did CPR and all, and God worked and moved, and raised him from the dead! The Pastor, a Brother E. Dewey Smith, said this:"The Medical Team can work on him...but only God can give Breath"! He was, of course, referring to the Breath of Life. Only God can give THAT! The Man recovered, and apparently went on to live his life.

Who cares, this happens all the time, we need to fix this issue, which is done by all eating a whole foods, plant based diet, create a natural, non toxic environment, in nature, in our cities, and in all our products, as well as exercise more, it’s so easy, but greed for money is the problem as always. Also, we have 8 billion people, and only 1 planet. If people cared as much about the planet that they do their friends, family, or this guy, our climate wouldn’t be getting worse and worse all the time. We only have 1 planet, but we could easily lose 7.5+ billion people, and our species would be fine, especially if only the strongest and smartest were left, and the planet would also benefit from this. Just the objective truth.

Side note, but this event (more so the aftermath) had also been an incredible push for our profession of athletic training. To be able to show people what we are capable of and how important it is to have athletic trainers - and to also see the support from Damar and the NFL for athletic trainers - has been so so huge and meaningful. This is often a worst nightmare for us and we never wish this on any of our athletes/patience, but its so rewarding to see such an amazing outcome - for both Damar and the awareness surrounding the profession!

Back in December, I got incredibly ill, septic shock due to complications from a kidney stone. I nearly died. I was in the ICU for a solid month. While I was there, who would be rushed into the room next to mine? Damar Hamlin. The players from both teams that came to see him and wish him a speedy recovery were some of the greatest people in the world. They treated my wife so well, as if she were a lifelong friend. While I lay in bed, and my wife was unsure if I'd ever wake up again, these beautiful human beings who's friend was also in a very serious situation, embraced her and offered her support and compassion. It's something I will never be able to repay, and something I think about on a daily basis. I am a lifelong Bengals diehard, but I also now love the Buffalo Bills for their tremendous people.

Damar's collapse was caused by a medical phenomenon called commotio cordis. When Tee Higgins hit Damar's chest with his shoulder, it hit a specific ventricle in Damar's heart at a specific heartbeat and caused the cardiac arrest. It's rare and more common with baseball players. The team that worked on him on the field absolutely saved his life.

i was watching the game on tv with my family when it happened. the energy in the room became really tense, and the commercials felt so out of place with what was happening. within around 10 minutes they cut to commercial break about 4 times because of the lack of updates. me and my friends were texting each other pretty frantically trying to figure out what happened and if he would be okay or not. the ambulance on the field really set in stone just how serious this was. i’ve been in the bills mafia for my entire life, and the outpouring of support from not just other bills fans, but from the entirety of the nfl was astounding. massive props to the medical staff who brought back our 3

I’m a Bengals fan in Cincinnati. I remember watching the Week 17 game live on TV with my family. Damar Hamlin’s collapse was the most horrifying thing I’ve seen in 23 years of watching football. I’m glad they decided to cancel the game, because I didn’t want to see the game continue and doubt the players and coaches wanted to continue playing after witnessing that. I felt horrible about it and terrible for the Bills fans in attendance. I’m glad none of the Bengals fans in the stadium decided to be jackasses about the situation. After the game, downtown Cincinnati was full of support for the Bills. Multiple buildings were lit up red and blue. There were signs with the number 3 hanging in windows. I think there may have even been electronic billboard messages supporting Damar. I’m so glad he covered and I hope he stays healthy. Hopefully he has a great career and does a lot of good with the $9 million his GoFundMe raised. And I hope to God I never see what happened to Damar ever happen again.

This is a reason why i love pro sports and will continue to watch most of them. Even though the Bills have been a long time rival for our team, still, a young dude almost passed, but everyone, even the Bengals they were against helped and supported his getting better. Good job on every medical staff, players, teammates, coaches. Everyone did a good job that day

There is no other fan base like the Bill’s mafia.. the amount of love and support that they give out during times like this is truly incredible.. it is possibly the most infectious fan base in the NFL.. I will most certainly not forget a single moment from that night..

I agree but I feel like most fan bases would have been this way, something like this hasn't taken place in many years it would have been a shock for any team and that would have been the same show of emotion and love for the teammate

Except for the ones sending death threats to Tee Higgins and his mother for the accidental hit.

I can’t imagine what that moment feels like for both men involved- obviously we know how terrifying and stressful and traumatic it is for Damar but I also imagine it was rough for Tee too. On both ends and even for the players and spectators and even us at home, I think it was a stunning reminder of how fragile we really are.

I was speechless when I saw this happen. I’m glad he’s OK and I am super proud of the responders. They made the right choice suspending and in the end not resuming the game. After what just happened I couldn’t imagine what would happen if they tried to go back to playing.

As a bills fan, I watched this game live and I remember tearing up watching Allen and Diggs crying and same with all the other team while they made a circle around him. I am so god damn grateful for Buffalo General and UC Medical, for their help. God bless all of you. I remember when my grandfather was in Buffalo General, shortly before his passing. They were great. I really appreciate all of you and all the staff everywhere. Love you Damar. #3

That Bills-Pats game was the only time I actively rooted against my longtime team, and could not have been happier to do so. What a beautiful group of people y’all have up there.

I'm from the UK and just been crying watching this. He was clearly loved and made a big impact on many peoples lives, esp youngsters. I hope he makes a full recovery and can keep doing what he loves, he's so young. My dad had his 1st major heart attack on his 41st birthday, followed quick by 2 more. I was 17,pregnant with my 1st daughter but all of a sudden felt like a little girl with no hope, scared I'd lose my dad.... He ended up having a quadruple heart bypass. I visited as he came out of intensive care and the state he was in still traumatises me when I think about it now at home 6yrs old. My dad has just surpassed his 68th birthday on 22/2/23.

I was at the Rams Cardinals Wild Card game last year and seeing Budda Baker get knocked out cold was really scary, didn't think it could get any worse until this happened. So glad and thankful they both made it.

The fact that the Bengals, the Bills season rivals, GAVE UP the #1 seed because of this game shows how scary it was for everyone there. With the season on the line, the opposite team still gave up being crowned the best team in the AFC because of this.

I am fairly new to the EMS/fire scene. Cardiac arrests or “codes” as we call them are inherently stressful. You have 6 people all doing a job (in our department). “If this happens then this happens” and so on and so forth like a flow chart. It takes mutual understanding of everyone in the crew and perfect communication to pull off what this crew has done. To have millions of people watch you as you exercise your training where if you have one second of mistake or doubt you will have your head ripped off by American and yet this crew has yet to get a negative review from anyone under such circumstances (Medical professionals included). Honestly boys, fuckin hats off to ya.
