    The DeAngelo Williams situation is so awful, the fact that they would not let a player who lost many loved ones wear some simple eye black to commemorate them is baffling. Shame on the league for that.

One of the things my linebacker couch tried to teach us was to read the quarterback's eyes to know where the ball is going. Or as a DB is you can read the receiver's eyes you will know when the ball is in range and time it to make a play. FYI: I was never good enough or quick enough to do either. But we had guys that could.

    Most of these rules are fueled by the NFL's greed, but jewelry ... I've played several different sportsover my lifetime and have never seen a single one that allowed watches, rings, earrings, necklaces, any kind of jewelry at all. Usually because it's a potential injury to themselves or others. Getting scraped by someone's watch or having an earing ripped out ... ouch.

    I do believe that a large part of this comes down to limiting player empowerment. By not allowing for individuality in their gear, the players become much less distringuishable from their peers and it become harder for them to stand out, making them seem more interchangeable and less valuable as individual contributors in the scope of team success. This leads to less bargaining power and leverage in contract negotations over time.

    @@drak3y Great story, but you've totally missed the point. Again, the player with the long hair is not only doing something that is stupid in terms of risking his own health, but is also putting all of the other players on the field in danger. If you've ever played football, you are aware how things can get wrapped around the screws that affix one's mask to his helmet. So again, if a large strand of hair or dread gets caught in between another player's mask and helmet, and if it occurs when one or both are moving at high speed, one or both may be subjected to the same type of force that is experienced by people who are being dropped through the floor of a scaffold, with one end of a rope around the neck, and the other end tied to a gallows pole.

    They need to outlaw long hair/dreads. At dome point, someone is going to get his hair caught in between the mask and helmet of another player during an especially violent hit, and one or both players is going to injure, or even break his neck.

    All these rules are in the contract players sign. They are paid millions. Every single one of these rules, makes perfect sense. Just because you get away with it for a while, doesn’t make it acceptable. Just because your accessory sends a nice message, doesn’t mean it’s not against the rules. The fact there are so many people breaking these rules, intentionally, and for their own momentary gain, tells you exactly why the rules exist. Imagine how out of control this would get if the NFL just allowed players to do what they want? With all these rules and fines, there are athletes constantly trying to get away with breaking them. It would be out of control so fast and the game would quickly turn into players trying to “one-up” each other, or prioritizing “There brand,” whenever possible.

  • @Chromedbustop
    @Chromedbustop Жыл бұрын

    Some of these, like the situation with DeAngelo Williams seem harsh. But most are more than reasonable. Like, oh it's so sad that for a few hours a week, while you're at work, you aren't allowed to totally express yourself. How cruel and terrible! Give me a break. And it's not about self expression. Players do this to make money. NFL games are seen by tens of millions of people, and that can jump into the hundreds of millions for playoff/SB games. You don't think companies would love to have players wearing their products and getting that free marketing in front of those millions of eyes? And you don't think players cash in on that? So to me it's real simple. You're at work. Wear your work clothes. You'll survive. You have plenty of time to express yourself or whatever when you're not working.
