The Scalextric Video - 30 Years of an Extraordinary Toy
Ойын-сауық
Video long out of production from 1988. Presented by Mike Robertson (Ex-Magpie). Includes interviews with Fred Francis inventor of Scalextric. Transferred from original VHS. Some great cars from the 1980's Scalextric ranges as well as a good coverage of historic tinplate models.

Fantastic little program, I never even knew it existed, thank's for posting.
I got a set back in the early sixties, it was a figure 8 set with red & blue Aston Martins. It was one of the nicest Christmas Gifts I ever received. Bought a digital set for my son this Christmas 2015 to keep the tradition going in our family.
Thanks so much for posting, this was great!
Great video! I loved my Scalextric set back in 78 or 79. I'm getting my 9 year-old son into digital this Christmas.
I still have some of that original track...Thanks for the trip down 'memory lane'...;-)
Thanks for this great video. Some really interesting stuff in this. If only they would release it on DVD...
Thank you, this is an amazing video. Happy New Year to you from me (and all the mice in the workshop) 🏆
30 Years of an Extraordinary Toy, with an Extraordinary man!

It has very nice close-up shooting of the Formula 1 racing on the Classic track. It made me realize how uneven are the Classic tracks compare to the newer Sport tracks.
Had our first set in the 70's, over the years I gradually expanded it then switched to digital, seems prices have rocketed in recent years, by today's prices it would cost well over £700 to buy what I currently have new.....
sehr Interresantes Video
Great!
the opening reminds me of the period BBC Grand Prix opening titles from that time mid/late 1980s
The Scalextric connection with Goodwood is interesting.
I wonder if they will introduce DCC control as they've done with trains?
Thanks for that! So interesting especially having just got the ARC system. Amazing how it has grown and developed. What year was that doc?

This is an old video shot 30 years ago :-))
Hello, do you have a 1980s scalextric advert with the background music "racing through the dark night, red lights flashing, countdowns crashing, you're really racing....who will be the lead car, you're really racing". If you come across it, please message me, thanks!
Great video! However, what the hell happens at 25:13? It's not a crossover track piece yet the car goes from the inner lane to the outer one.

+Kevin Dobbie I've never noticed that! I can only assume that the car got dislodged from the track whilst going around the corner and drifted over into the outer track. From memory the older track was a lot less level than newer sports track and cars popping out of lanes was not uncommon. You'd suddenly find you were controlling two cars at a greatly reduced speed!!! Well spotted.

Kevin Dobbie If you look at the track pieces from the catalogue earlier in the video you will see a crossover track ( two actually).
in the beginning at 18:00 cool the production of ..
I thought that dark haired presenter was Kevin Keegan.
The presenter is off magpie TV Mick Roberto...
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Neil Tenant anyone.? (If you get the reference).
30 years? My first Scalextric was gifted me in 1963 or 1964 and was not a "first edition" ;-)
