I WANT TO PLAY A GAME. Jigsaw, the titular villain of the Saw saga, is most known for his puzzles. In order to solve many of his games and traps, you have to put together the puzzle pieces. Fittingly, the Saw timeline is also a puzzle. There are no title cards or graphics to display the date, and the movies are known for their flashbacks within flashbacks and non-linear storytelling.
But there are clues hidden throughout about when certain things take place. This has led many Saw fans to wonder: what if you put everything in chronological order? Does the story still work? Or will this create paradoxes and contradictions?
In this video I aimed to find out by making a timeline of everything that happens in the franchise. I'll go over everything in chronological order and talk about why I placed each event where I did.

People often assume many sequels/prequels mean a timeline which gets confusing and ends up in multiple timelines which don't connect... Saw is unbelievable at keeping it flowing considering the amount of flashbacks etc they have. It's absolutely crazy how well thought out it all is, no wonder it's probably my favourite series.

I'd also argue that, although he is certainly a twisted psycho, he has some good intentions with his traps, to rehabilitate people and make them value their lives higher, so that they can live better lives, which is why he insists his games always are winnable, he's not just punishing people for their mistakes. He just has an absolutely horrible, unfair way of doing it.

John Kramer was born on September 3, 1953. Also, Logan still got into his game after returning from the war, in my opinion, somewhere in the summer of 2005, and at the same time the "10 years ago" is perfect. Also, I think that the events of Spiral take place in 2019, not in 2021, as this is the year when the film was shot.

So, if there's currently 3 active jigsaws, with 2 of them being actual Jigsaw apprentices, does this mean they're aware of each other's existence? Also, who actually carries out John's legacy, because John punished Amanda and Hoffman because they cheated on their games by making them unwinnable or just straight up killing people? Lastly, is it possible the two remaining apprentices know each other personally due to the closeness in the timeline to knowing/working with John Kramer? I have so many questions because the film series is currently incomplete.

What I don't understand is how Jill was allowed to just...keep that box John left for her. First, if it was left in his will that would go through probate and be public record. Second, one would think given John's status as, you know, a prolific serial killer, even if he put it in a trust that avoids probate the law would say 'hold up, show us what's in the box'.

John Kramer is one of the most hypocritical murders ever, I swear. Even just things like him not wanting Logan to die because of "an honest mistake" when the whole reason he got put into the game was because he made a mistake.

Yeah but his whole "premise" is getting these people to "win" their life back. If he didn't even get a chance, then it's totally in line with Jigsaw's ideology to give him another chance since he never actually got a chance to fight for his life in the initial game. Either way, it doesn't seem that hypocritical to me

@@doperagu8471 Bro in the very first movie he involves an innocent child and mother in the game to use against Gordon plus forced Zepp to play when he never did anything. Like seriously Zepp died just cause he didn't have a better job position at the hospital and didn't like how cold the Doctors were to the patients. Zepp died because he had empathy for patients and shit talked Doctors basically lmao. He contradicts his ideology 24/7 lets be honest here. In Saw 10 he freaks because a kid got involved in his game because 'he's innocent' yet in other movies he traumatizes children by using them as leverage to get their parents to play. He hurts and even kills innocent people as a punishment against the ones being tested in some movies. It's a really inconsistent if not hypocritical mindset he has. One reason he tests someone is the same reason he won't in another movie.

@@doperagu8471 I understand it's just a movie but it's extremely hypocritical he saved Logan over a mistake when in past traps and tests the whole reason half his victims die can be boiled down to mistakes too. I don't think his ideas are supposed to be consistent or logical, he's a fruit loop.

Im fairly certain that John named the meat packing plant after his unborn son, not the other way around. I could be wrong, but Im pretty sure that was the story. It doesnt affect much of anything, but just something to note.

-One of the coolest villains in movies ever: Mark Hoffman. -the best acting in the whole series imo has been by Eric Matthews' actor. The way he is dangling on the ice block trap over the entire 4th movie; he just really gets so into characer I almost wept for the guy. And that ice block trap btw was the coolest, most twisted and insane yet.

I just saw SAW X in theaters and enjoyed every second of it. Without trying to spoil anything, I believe this gave an engaging chapter in John Kramer's life and paid homage to the original series so well. Although I've watched Saw since the beginning and was familiar with twists, Saw X still manages to pull off surprising twists. Please note SAW X has a mid-credits scene that I recommend staying to watch as well. Unfortunately, the theater where I saw this was nearly empty. I only saw five other people in it. Although an afternoon showing, weekends were usually peak times for theaters though many might've watched Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie instead when it debuted alongside SAW X. I hope any who are able will watch SAW X in theaters.

I literally just saw it in theaters yesterday and honestly it became my new favorite Saw movie and if the series keeps up in this way I am so excited for it to go that way. For me on the way to the theater I was talking about how I was worried the series would become similar to the fast and furious where it was "jumping the shark" so to speak where stuffy came crazy and crazier to the point where it just breaks your immersion in the movie however they did amazing with this movie

I noticed in the first Saw Movie that Lawrence's phone in the bathroom is set at September 10th, 2001 at 12 PM. While I do believe the time itself may be an error, I looked into the date a bit further. I also looked at the newspaper clipping with Seth Baxter's Murder in it. It was dated June 11th, but June 11th was also labeled Monday. The most recent Monday before this Saw Film was made was 2001. Therefore, Seth Baxter's Murder, the beginning of Hoffman's Apprenticeship, and the games with Paul, Other Mark, and Amanda took place in a matter of weeks, possibly just days. In 2001, not 2004.

I was waiting for a new Saw video from Zack/CZ when I first saw the trailer for Saw X. It’s cool how he was able to incorporate the newest film into the timeline despite it not being out at the time of posting. The prototype Barn Game, the Nerve Gas House, and plans to punish William Easton and Robert Dagan always get my “poetic/grim but oddly fitting justice” sensors tingling. Edward Nigma or Anarky Jigsaw is not, but I think that parts of Bell’s iconic character went into developing their versions for the Batman Arkham series of video games. Looking at you, Arkham City and Arkham Origins.
