The Saints - (I'm) Stranded [HQ]
Музыка
The Saints son una banda de rock australiana, que se formó en Brisbane en 1974 como punk rockers. Los fundadores fueron Chris Bailey (cantante y guitarra), Ivor Hay (batería) y Ed Kuepper (guitarra y compositor). Junto a Pilar Bailey.

The Saints are an Australian rock band, which formed in Brisbane in 1974, founded by Chris Bailey (singer-songwriter, later guitarist), Ivor Hay (drummer), and Ed Kuepper (guitarist-songwriter). Alongside mainstay Bailey, the group has had numerous line-ups. In 1975, contemporaneous with United States' Ramones, The Saints were employing the fast tempos, raucous vocals and "buzz saw" guitar that characterised early punk rock. With their debut single, "(I'm) Stranded", in September 1976, they became the first punk band outside the US to release a record, ahead of better-known acts including the Sex Pistols and The Clash. They are one of the first and most influential groups of the genre, according to Bob Geldof, "Rock music in the seventies was changed by three bands-the Sex Pistols, the Ramones and The Saints".
In early 1979, the Saints had split, leaving Bailey to continue the band, with a variable line-up, as a pop punk group. All Fools Day peaked in the Top 30 on the Australian Kent Music Report Albums Chart in April 1986. Bailey also has a solo career and had relocated to Sweden by 1994. The band was inducted into the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Hall of Fame in 2001.

Rest In Power Chris Bailey This tune is still fantastic.
I'm Canadian. When I was 15 years old, in 1983, I bought a punk compilation called "Burning Ambitions - A History of Punk". That's when I first heard "Stranded". I was blown away. I still am. Punk was New York, then London. The fact that a band from Brisbane inserted themselves into the conversation was incredible.
When I was 18 this single blew my mind. Now I am 62 and it still blows my mind.

All I remember is staying up all night watching Rage, waiting & praying for them to play Stranded RIP
Brisbane, Queensland's Saints were among the founding fathers of the movement that basically rescued rock and roll from a protracted aesthetic slump. This debut single of theirs was among the earliest releases in the genre. Its impact was immeasurable. Tragically, we lost Chris Bailey in April 2022.

Sad loss for Chris to go. RIP mate. Their first 3 albums were a seminal punk explosion and still sound as fresh today as they did in the 70s.
Earlier tonight I watched the excellent rock doc "Blood and Thunder: The Story of Alberts", the Aussie publishing and production dynasty that gave Australians a rock tradition of their own. On a wider note it presents the artists of the Australian rock canon. The tough-as-nails character of the Aussie people is linked to the wreckless and rowdy, youthful exuberance of Australian rock and roll. This distinctively rough and primal nature is something I previously had failed to consciously realize. Once pointed out, this feature is undeniable. It doesn't just introduce itself; it walks up and socks you in the jaw. From the swinging 60s and later arena-rock eras, through to the burgeoning of punk and beyond, Aussie sounds exhibit a rougher edge and an extra jolt of attitude. The Saints illustrate this to a T! Music from the UK, and that made in the US to some degree as well, is made less menacing by its clever and arty nature. It's like a teenager slumming on the weekend. Aussie rock, in contrast, is his incorrigibly juvenile-delinquent cousin. It never loses its edge. I think that's why The Saints are so exciting to this day and why people commenting here, myself among them, still react so strongly to their music.
I could never say they were the best, but I can absolutely say there were none better. Fantastic Aussie band.
RIP Chris Bailey, who 30 years ago lived with Elisabet and her cats in Malmö, Sweden, ate knäckebröd and learned Swdish before they moved to Haarlem, The Netherlands.
Love Ya, Chris, and Find Your Peace, brother! I musta danced 1,000 times to this one and every other song you sang for us.

I'm learning now that Chris Bailey passed away...so sad. The reason I am here is because this is one of the greatest punk rock songs of all time. R.I.P. Chris.
Pure and raw talent, brilliant. They said they weren't punk and yet they owned the genre.

Thanks for the best … thanks for giving us Brisbane’s best … just thanks. RIP Chris Bailey, never forgotten
This was directed by then 23 year old Russell Mulcahy, who would in the 1980s gain international renown for his work on Duran Duran's "Rio", "Hungry Like The Wolf", "Save A Prayer", "Lonely In Your Nightmare" and "The Wild Boys" videos.

My brother bought me this single when I was barely a teenager, I loved it. It's good having diverse musical influences, Dad was listening to Classical and Jazz, Mum to Irish Folk , Sisters to Indi and Opera, Brother to Heavy Metal/Punk/Rock. I was downstairs writing my own songs on guitar and tin whistle.
Been working all day and just heard the news. RIP Chris, literally the pioneer.

(I'm) Stranded is the debut album by Australian punk rock group The Saints which was released by EMI on 21 February 1977. Their debut single, "(I'm) Stranded", was issued ahead of the album in September 1976, which Sounds magazine's reviewer, Jonh Ingham, declared was the "Single of this and every week". "Erotic Neurotic" was the second single, which was released in May 1977 and the group relocated to the United Kingdom.

R.I.P Chris Bailey
Chris and Ed wrote a timeless song. And The Saints created a timeless recording of it. It sounds as fresh today as the day it was released. Sophisticated Simplicity at its best.
Probably the most underrated band to come out of the 76 to 77 years they released this masterpiece before the pistols put out anarchy. And they formed in 74.
Does anything define punk / rock better than the image of Chris hanging back, dragging on a dart, then flicking it away as he nonchalantly strolls up to the mic & lets rip? .......... RIP legend.
1977, living at night in Tas on the dole, we'd wait for the people walking down the road outside our house to catch the 8 a.m.bus for work and then crank (I'm) Stranded up and turn it up to 11. It was a sonic bloody tidal wave, they'd all look up to see us with our air guitars behind the lounge room window. Then we'd crash for the day and repeat the next morning. After a few weeks of this, no one walked past anymore, they walked the slightly longer route to avoid us. I mentioned this to Ed Kuiper once at a LC gig at the Shents in WA in 1988, he pissed himself laughing. That album got played hundreds of times, so did the Stooges 'Funhouse'. Primal....
