    very sad to confirm the news about Chris Bailey dying on the weekend. Chris and I met when we were about 14 during detention at Oxley High School and became close friends which later developed into what I always thought was an extremely strong artistic partnership, I couldn't have hoped for a better singer. My deepest condolences to his wife Elisabet, his sisters Margaret, Carol and Maureen and the rest of his family and loved ones. I'll post something longer down the track but for now..

The Saints, for me at any rate, left an indelible mark on punk rock...I loved them and I'm sorry to hear of Chris Bailey's passing. You made your mark Chris and your legacy endures...and will, well into the future.

    To me, the most important band of the early punk era. Tight, fast and relentless. I was lucky to see them at the Belfast Punk Festival. They were as brilliant as I'd thought they would be.

    Vale Chris Bailey When I say that Chris Bailey is one of the most important people in our Australian Music History, that is a massive understatement. Today's news of his passing is like losing a family member. I'm shattered and devastated. Chris came into my life in 1976, when I was supposed to be doing school homework. Listening to Sydney's JJ 1540am radio ( thanks to the Gough Whitlam government ) I heard (I'm ) Stranded by THE SAINTS. IT STILL RANKS AS ONE OF THE BEST SOUNDS I'VE EVER HEARD IN MY 61 YEARS ON THE PLANET. Chris Bailey was extremely intelligent with an acidic wit, not many, if any, could match him. From reports I've heard, Chris was kind, warm, sincere and generous. A beautiful spirit gone way too young. I think he had a great time whilst he was here on Earth. Not many people can do what he did. He was a Punk Pioneer without even trying or even knowing that's what he was doing. Condolences to his family, friends, all his bandmates and his legions of fans and supporters.

    The energy never lets up from start to finish, everyone's red hot. I have the audio of this on the All Times Through Paradise box set, and bits of this clip were in the Radio Birdman documentary but the picture and sound weren't this clear. Don't know where Ed found this copy but happy that it's available so we can see what a force the Saints were at this point. (EDIT: just heard today of Chris Bailey's passing on 4/9. Godspeed Chris, you left behind a great body of music with the Saints and your solo career.)

    First off, commiserations on the sad loss of Chris, one of THE iconic voices in the realm of what is known as punk rock, one whom I've had the pleasure and honor of performing with on stage here in the Netherlands on several occasions. The SAINTS first albums (and also "Prehistoric Sounds" which is HUGELY underrated album IMO) pretty much got us through our teenage years as alienated little kids ca. 1978. We'd get high on weed and try to count how many times Chris would yell "C'mon", "Awwww-riiiite !" and "I said take it !". Night after night. Of course we;d lose count halfway through the album. It ment SO MUCH MORE to us than the Sex Pistols or what have you. We sorta liked them, and the Damned (the Clash not so much) but the SAINTS were always our favorites. And Ed has been a huge, huge, HUGE influence on my guitar playing style ever since, through all these years. Thank you for the music, good sir. You really changed my life. I also wonder if Ed still speaks German.

  • @alanstrom2221

    @alanstrom2221

    10 ай бұрын

    Radio Birdman members were and are the opposite of Nazis and Fascists. It was the right-wing conservative media in Australia that cast aspersions and insinuated that Radio Birdman's emblem on their banners was a fascist one. If the media had bothered to interview the Band properly, they would have discovered that Birdman were progressive thinkers. The symbol was held by some as something to follow, many fans getting the symbol tattooed on their bodies. Many in the skateboard and surf subcultures have featured the symbol on their boards. Others saw it as something distasteful - the call sign of a forming cult. To some, the symbol recalled Nazi regalia. Tek has denied this, adamantly maintaining that the band and its music are apolitical, with no wish to present propaganda of any sort.
