The reason is because they want to add politics into them and put to much of their own stance into it, well never get a good anime adaption. Because even if they did care about accuracies they'll definitely still try and add woke politics

Plots wack. Missing the other 3 orphan friends that was part of the anime. Armor is to big for shoulder and heads. And they didn't even mention they are more Saint out there to assassin the imposter Athena. The organization just have to be crazy rich wife as a villain.

Thanks for saying it, these movie studios really need to stop trying to Adapt big anime series into live action because no matter what their budget is, we still expect it to be as good as the source material

To be honest, I don't think Madison Iseman is a bad actor at all. I think the problem here was the writing she was given being poor but I don't think she was bad herself by any means.

Mother didn't die, she got her arms back from Athena. Seiya's quest for her sister is the only think faithful to the original source material, which is dragged on to the very end, including teasing us that Marin is his sister. Everything else is a corrupted version of the source material with no redeeming qualities other than Phoenix from X-Men confronting Phoenix from Saint Seiya being unintentional funny.

What about the Marin and Seiya rock breaking training montage? That's accurate (except Seiya did it 2nd try in the anime). Except of course, Marin ISN'T Seiya's sister in the anime. I don't understand why Seiya's sister is called "Patricia" - like you have Seiya already there, why isn't she called Seika?! huh? Wouldn't that make sense?

Really felt like the movie is created by someone who only heard about the source material.

The movie wasnt that bad.. its hard asf to put a whole season of anime into one movie.. i think the action was good n da cinematography was decent too.. kinda remind me of the tekken movie

The issue is that it is not saint seiya related. That is mmy biggest issue. An example of my idea is "let's do a movie about tom brady"... You go to the movie and he is playing baseball and the only tru thing is that the main character is called tom brady...

Phenix the villan was really not a villan. He was more so the hero that wanted to save humanity from gods having power over man kind. Pegasus was literally the guy who ignorantly saves the ANTICHRIS lol and one who will be responsible for other gods to awaken and go to war. Phonix was a badass in move, they tried to make him look evil also when he really was not.

Localized name changes in the 2010-2020s are just remedial and racist. Even Dic kept most of the names while dubbing mispronunciations aside. Saint Seiya deserves better. Can't wait to see how bad this film is makes Bleach 2018 look competent.

You know, after watching One Piece Live Action and finding out that Zoro was actually played by someone that was in Saint Seiya Live Action, I was shocked and wondering where it was. Well, I found it and I got disappointed on how far it was from the visual of the anime. I saw the 3D-Animated series by Netflix as well, and at least that one has very nice visual. This is definitely just an attempt at a cash-grab of a very popular series without putting the effort to make it accurate to the source material.

@@UNSTABLE111 My personal take is that the art direction, fights, and actors were perfectly fine for the production. The problem was entirely in the bastardized script. Graad is a man, not a woman. The organization of the Black Knights is called Nero and led by Ikki, yet in the movie Pheonix himself is called Nero, and the Black Saints are all cyborgs. Athena would NEVER, EVER hurt one of her beloved Saints. Yet Seiya couldn't even touch her without the threat of being vaporized. Also, in the comic, the antagonists are always a celestial being (ie Ares, Hades, Poseidon, even the Odin arc). Yet in the movie the main threat is...Athena. Yep they made the heroine of humanity the indirect badguy. They also refer to her as a reincarnation. Too bad that's not what happens at all. Whenever a celestial being goes to Earth they either take their OWN form, or they occupy another body. Ares possessed Saga. Poseidon chose Julian. Athena never did this. She INCARNATED into her own form. So you are right. The fights were great. The script was a mess.

The only good anime adaptation is JoJo's Bizarre Adventure 2017, particularly because the characters actually look like their Manga and Anime counterparts. Cuz man, the bronze clothes are atrocious, I do NOT understand how they got so Manga/Anime accurate Clothes for Aioros/Aiolos (localized name), Saga, Shura and Marin, and yet. They had to fucked up the protagonist's and rival's Clothes. (for those who don't know, Clothes is the term used when referring to the Armours.)

If they take the story out and leave the action. It’s great. Western film makers need to stop trying to make tandem storylines deeper and it turns to cringe. I wished they kept the whole movie chi like the start. By the way. The cgi is great in the fight scenes. The stunt directors and fx studio is the only reason this movie was watchable. It’s a live action anime, the fx looks that way on purpose. Also the mom didn’t die. She healed her moms arms. Lol

As a fan of the franchise I gave it a 6.5 out of 10 for a myriad of reasons. It wasn't a bad movie. Problem is that giving the importance of the franchise at the very least people were expecting an 8 out of 10. By your voice I can tell you're pretty young so you probably haven't seen this but if I had to compare this film to any other adaptation I'd say its close that 1994 Fist of the North Star live action film with post Rufio Dante Basco, Chris Penn (Travis Brickley in Best of The Best), Costas Mandylor, and Gary Daniels aka Ken Masters in City Hunter as the titular character. KOTZ The Begining is not a bad movie per se, it even has some interesting elements such as Athena/Saori Kido having a motherly figure, but it tries to be so westernized that turns out to be mediocre in its execution. While a movie such as 2004 Casshern it probably has way worst special effects and it does have pretty noticeable creative differences between it and the source material but it still feels fresh and appealing on what it presents to the audience.

Full Metal Alchemist has been the best anime/manga to live action adaptation I've seen so far. Seiya's character was too whiny and his armor looked terrible. The Phoenix armor was probably the best part of the armor but without the Shredder mouth guard.

The problem is the budget, with that budget they avoid all the real atmosphere, because for that the movie need a budget for a kolossal phantasy. The story in avant garde american city don t make sense and this is the first problem. After is the story extracted from the real contest became stupid and with no sense. Third problem that came from the budget is the massive use of dialogue with no sense, because there few money for real action live. At last i say that the problem with ghe armor are that are too realistc, in Knights of the Zodiac, the armor are created by gods with power of stars, so are not realistic , in the movie are too realistic so the seems fake with no sense.

Yeah I agree with you in everything specially in the armors and the city. The original anime was heavily influenced by the Greek mythology, it has is error however it was full of Greek like environments specially in the battle scenes, and about the armors each one ( independent of if it were bronze, silver or gold) had a unique design that fix the constalations in which were based, but the ones from the live action looked very plain.

Coulnt finish it i saw all the anime stories and this is one feels like episode 1 of season 1

Still better than dragon ball revolution

this movie and saint seiya shared a common thing thats the title. the rest maybe not... its been a along time to get remember correctly, seiya isnt the smartest, maybe a bit loud, but all i can tell about seiya is "never give up, even if u are losing" spirit... but on modern term seiya will sound like a simp... a pro simp... coz u know everytime he dies or so or losing badly, by saying 1 liner "saori san" or "athena" and given SIMP power everytimes without failed except when he vs athena brother on the movie 5? but the message is clear "never give up". from an orphan with pretty bad life to a saint that protect people. he fight so less people had hard time like he does. that's the motive to be a athena saint. maybe while searching his sister too... but dunno... saving the world is no 1 ig.if no world = rip sister.:). u want seiya to success coz he given all he have and beyond. how many his armor break and remade / power boost like sagitarius cloth, and god cloth etc. and its seem this movie aint delivered it, the motives are weak, the armor is meh... not a grandios as its cosplay counterpart...xp. its seem this is not a saint seiya. but what do i know... nothing.... ofc this is only my personal opinion tho.:)

Watch the original Saint Seiya. It's pretty good. Especially if you like Bleach, since it is the spiritual successor of Saint Seiya.

I got into Saint Seiya round about the time Soul of Gold came out; that franchise is probably my favorite shonen one next to Dragon Ball. With that said, I wasn't expecting this to be good; and there are worst films out there. One pet peeve I have with the armor designs is how with the helmets they did the same problem that Legend of Sanctuary had; they're not supposed to close up/cover the face like they're ninja balaclavas or tokusatsu (Kamen Rider/Super Sentai) helmets. And I've actually seen live action fan films/fan series that captured the spirit of Saint Seiya better than this film. Just stick to the manga and original anime, including the 5 anime movies (Legend of Sanctuary doesn't count in my eyes although none of the movies [I would say movie 3 is an exception but I probably err on that]) they, despite their flaws and some of them not being good, still hold up and are far superior in terms of characters, artwork, story, etc. Even some of the video games like Sanctuary Battle and Soldiers' Soul were good. And I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'd rather watch all the episodes of DiC's butchering of Saint Seiya 10 times in a row than see this, at least that dub is comedically awful.

I have no problem with the helmets closing at all especially if it is an optional feature but with the design they went for, literally taking the knight in the name too seriously

you cant make it into a movie, at the very least it needs ten or more 1 hour episodes...

When you talk about “CGI” and think they are “special effects” … no, VFX and SFX are not the same. That shows the little knowledge you have in the creation of films. The film is not the best, sure. Not even good if you want. But the vfx are not part of the cons. Most of it is actually pretty well done.

okay, I'm at least glad you see how good the action is (even the last part has great over the top anime action) because Mortal Kombat 2021 action pales in comparison to this movie..I like this movie for what it was, its a decent adaptation but damn good martial arts movie in its own right, that wasn't afraid to make slick anime style fights (which honestly was what Saint Seiya was anyways, all the greek stuff was just a backdrop to create another supernatural martial arts manga)

Incorrect! It is about respecting the source material and actually sticking to it. Look at One Piece, majority of fans including myself were expecting it to be god awful garbage, almost DB Evolution bad. But, surprisingly it came out pretty good, followed the source material and even the creator of One Piece loves the live action show. I'm a Saint Seiya fan, have been since early 90's. WHen I saw the trailer for this movie, I knew it was going to be bad. Then watching it and stopping mid-way because thats how horrific it was, they did not follow the source material, being the novels/manga. SO yes, it does matter. Look at Game of Thrones for example.

Listening to this, just makes me think that some people really shouldn't be making reviews of movies xD

I enjoy the movie. Been a fan still 80's. I do agree they needed the other 3 but i feel they did decent job. Marin explains cosmo well and i prefer over dragon ball evolution. The fight between ikki and seiya was done nicely because even in the newest animes they forgotten that saints use cosmo in every punch and kick which in this movie they did it amazingly. I disagree with seiya having no personality. I felt he did great doing seiya justice. He never gave up and the actor playing ikki did a great job. As for the sister its suppose to be story to be done over time. If we dont get squeals then we will never get to sister. And yea i agreed athena actress did it horribly.

You saying that you're not that big of an SS fan tells me everything I need to know about how important your opinion is 💀💀💀💀💀

I'm a big SS fan and the movie is garbage and this review was spot-on. This weird creepy fan-gating is ridiculous. This is a movie that went on the theatres to appeal to the masses, it got big names to draw people to watch it and it got its plot overhauled in order to fit the big screen. Anyone's opinions is equally important. If anything they're not being knowledgeable about SS makes the review more impartial because I can't imagine how much of an echo chamber dweller you must be if all you want are glowing reviews from other SS fans to consider them "important".

I guess people who haven't watched the anime have less to care about those little details changed in adoption anywaysI haven't watched the anime but adoption was 10/10 for me

I’m a big ss fan, I loved the movie. The actors did great 👍 Mackenyu is great as Seiya. The movie is a great modernization of the story. The cgi is reminiscent of how the saints cosmo are supposed to glow in the original. The movie actually resolved a lot of the plot holes and character motivation issues from the original. Overall it is excellent as a live action movie. The story of the original only gets exponentially better from this point on. So it’d really be a shame if this is it and there is no sequel 🙃

Can we stop complaining and enjoy the movie? It was a good movie. all this crying will make it so we don't get a second or third movie. If your a fan you would want more.
