I never said russians and turks were friends, I think they never were, apart from the short period of time when soviets gave money to Ataturk to help him overthrow the allied powers. The point is, history and present of Russia and Turkey have many things in common. Two empires fighting for Caucasus, destroyed after WW1, two terrible autocratic presidents right now, who are ruining their countries with their stupid ambitions.

I wonder, how come the Russians were a lot more effective at defeating the Ottomans than the Habsurgs were? What advantage did the Russian armies have over the Ottomans in allowing it to defeat the Ottoman Empire more easily and frequently, gaining lots of lands in the process, while the Habsburgs struggled to fight the Ottomans.

The first war Russia managed to beat back the Turks. Even the second war the Turks were beaten back and Russia made large gains. It wasn't till around the seven years war that Europeans had better military technology than the Ottomans. Now there were times where the Austrian were indeed busy fighting France or another power and couldn't commit its full resources to fighting the Ottomans, nine years war comes to mind.

@@Ginsan94 Not an expert on the subject but I'm pretty sure that having to pay extra taxes (in an age where most people were dirt poor and even a small tax could mean them not making the next winter), risking having your child abducted and turned into a slavesoldier and risking being murdered just because some people who happened to be christian messed around in the area, all count as ''forced''.

Very nice video, but I want to report to you about one little mistake - in period from 1682 to 1689 Peter the Great wasn’t the real tsar. In this period tsarevna (queen) Sofia was the actual ruler of Russia, because Peter was a child and couldn’t be a tsar. You’ve done quite a work here though, I really appreciate it!)

13:58 the fact is that the emperor was quite reluctant to start that war (fearing that other European nations may join on Turkish side, as they did before), and the war of 1977-78 was one of the first wars pressed by public opinion (the society pledged to help Bulgarian people, under the influence of the early mass media - including famous paintings, among them „Bulgarian martyrs“ by Makovsky, now exhibited in Minsk). Russia also didn't want to incorporate the lands, but rather to create a new nation (San Stefano Great Bulgaria, later halved by the Berlin Congress), something new in European history (although probably inspired by the earlier example of recreating Greece and also by secret pacts limiting the influence of great powers in the region).

I think the public opinion that weighed more were Slavophile dreams of expansion and removal of Muslim influence from the Orthodox Balkans, rather than the Bulgarian atrocities per se. Also, I am not sure creating Bulgaria was something new by that point. As you say Greece had already been created 50 years before, but also Belgium in 1832 and both Germany and Italy had unified as nations which had never existed as a single state before. And Bulgaria had existed as an empire (twice) in the Middle Ages up until 1396.

Russia managed to defeat the Ottoman Empire several times even in its strongest time, this was a great success, the biggest reason for this was that the Ottoman commanders were bad.

They have never defeated the ottomans at the ottomans strongest times becuase the first war was at the time of selim the 2 who was an alcaholic and the first bad ottoman sultan if the fighting heppened during selims dad suleiman i dont think the russians would have won in the beginning or at least the turks would have had a head start

Не совсем. С Турцией воевали в основном на балканах так как и интересы были в основном там. Восстания греков, сербов и тд. Да и регион удобнее. Россия во время кавказских войн поняла что воевать в горах не самая хорошая идея

Even if Russia had more direct conflicts in Balkans the situation in Caucasus after Russias entrance directly affected orthodox populations which Ottomans saw as russias allies and these Orthodox population had to defend their region until Russia finally took over caucasus and launched many offensives against turks in process

The battleground of wars between Russia, Ottoman Empire and Austria was today Romania (Moldova , Wallachia and Transylvania). It's a miracle that romanians succeed to live until today. Or maybe this was our luck...

The Ottoman Empire did not damage any of the places it conquered, on the contrary, it brought science, art and peace there. There are thousands of historical artifacts belonging to Turks in the Balkans and many Balkan states love Turks very much.

@@vasiliantonov7484 Russia didn't do it all alone, the allies did it together. Venice attacked the Ottomans in the Balkan peninsula and on the seas. Holy Roman and Austria were Habsburgs and acted together. In addition, Russia did not destroy the Ottoman Empire, there was a revolution in the Ottoman Empire and a republican regime was introduced. There was an agreement between Austria and Russia that they would act together against the Ottomans. According to this agreement, if one of the two states was attacked by the Ottomans, the other would help. And if one of these two states went to war with the Ottomans, the other would help. The Ottomans always had to fight multiple enemies on multiple fronts. In addition, Austria and Russia formed an alliance with the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth against the Ottoman Empire.

The war of 1568-1570 according to my point of view was indecisive because when the Russian relieve force recaptured Astharkhan due to workers who were busy in digging canals and Selim II sent navy to Azov as he knew his navy was superior but his navy was destroyed because of a storm. Both Tsar and Sultan accepted peace proposals and restored friendly relations between Tsar and Sultan.
