My great grandfather, who is still alive and is 103 year old told me a story of how one day the british came into his town. They went through every house and got all the books and burned them. They broke down the school and arrested the teachers. And they left warning them that they aren't here to be educated, but to be slaves to the empire. He grew up illiterate and has never fully learned how to read and write. This was in India and it was the norm.

People still have to understand it's not that long ago. It's still generational trauma. What I mean by that is the following: my father was from the windrush generation. He was working with his mother in the sugar can field for pence working in a shack. It's also untrue. Slavery was outlawed in 1837 (not 1833), and the owners were compensated by the British government who passed the emancipation law. All crown debt is paid by the taxpayers, so saying that "the slaves themselves paid the debt" is cherry-picking the facts, and ignoring that they had a lot of help from the other 98% of taxpayers. They cannot be selective with what legacy is remembered. Our surnames are that of our ancestors slave masters, the prosperity of countries, institutions, organisations, cities etc have been built on the back of slavery and yet they still ensure that institutions, organisations hold down, hold back, demonise those from the afro Caribbean/African communties to this day in prisons, schools, careers history books. People today dont seem to be aware that england chose for no reason other than deciding it was morally wrong, to make slavery illegal. The government then spent a great deal of money and hundreds of years stopping slavery , including slavery by other ethnicities. Slavery was wrong but it was also something done since the dawn of time amongst all peoples, it is not a european/white colonisation invention. Let us acknowledge the past, the bad and the good and spend money in social services so that those effected by indirect effects of colonisation today can heal.

Its time for ALL AFRICAN nations to detatch themselves from crown nations & stop paying them the annual fees out of their budgets. The French president once said "France would be a dump without its colonies throughout the world"

There was no famine. Grain, meat, dairy & fish were shipped to Britain.

They should be stripped of their assets and the money should be shared out between the families of people who were used as slaves. Criminals are stripped of their assets when they have made the money from immoral earnings. To be honest they should also be jailed, but at very least they should be made to live in council housing and work or claim benefits/ pensions.

Excuse me, we talk about the Arab slave trade all the time and we are well aware of the impact on our continent especially because the Arabs enslaved and continue to enslave a lot of East Africans.

Here in New Zealand any one that works in Government, police, judiciary, military...etc, make their oath to Queen Elizabeth the second, the Queen of New Zealand, her heirs and successors. There is no entrenched constitution here, and sovereignty resides not in the people from where power is derived, but in the monarchy of which none of us are a part, and these oath takers make no oath to protect its people, but continue to rape and pillage for the "Crown" and the "Royal Family" in the form of a constitutional monarchy, democracy is nothing more than mob rule, and its that mob that make the rules. It is time we moved forward and cut the apron strings of the monarchy, they have stolen enough from indigenous peoples from around the globe, and continue to flaunt their genocidal theft in the form of "Royal Tours", their apologies mean nothing, especially when they still live off the massive fortune from the misfortune, genocide, theft and atrocities that were caused to millions of others in the name of their family that gets inherited by their heirs and successors, then so too should the consequences be inherited. Just my thoughts.

Neither the UK/Britain, nor Western Europe, nor the United States invented slavery. However, UK/Britain was the leader in eliminating slavery worldwide. Read Thomas Sowell’s history about global slavery. The Middle East and Asia had more African AND white European slaves. Slavery continues even today.

After WW2 the UK and the USA ("the good guys") made Germany pay reparations to the "jews". The UK and the USA need to start paying reparations to much of the world. Once that happens they should be charged with the War Crimes they've gotten away with. If they want to be "leaders of the free world" they need to start leading by example, but they are not leaders, they are just criminals and devils. They're eventually going to go extinct but before that happens they need to pay up first.
