The royal family: Slavery, colonialism and race

In the Caribbean, some people are calling for the British monarch to be removed as head of state, and for the royal family to pay reparations for their role in slavery.
We explore the royal family's uncomfortable links to slavery, colonialism and race in the countries where King Charles is the head of state.

Whenever people have asked for reparations, they’re told it was in the past and to get over it - and yet the enslavers were being “paid back” from public money in 2015. Disgusting.

My great grandfather, who is still alive and is 103 year old told me a story of how one day the british came into his town. They went through every house and got all the books and burned them. They broke down the school and arrested the teachers. And they left warning them that they aren't here to be educated, but to be slaves to the empire. He grew up illiterate and has never fully learned how to read and write. This was in India and it was the norm.

By the way,the British queen is still the head or leader of the so-called Commonwealth Countries,a constant mental reminder that they are still subordinate to Britain. Colonialism has simply given way to neo_ colonialism. The chains of slavery have been broken off from the hands and feet, and placed on the minds and brains, making the modern day slavery worse than the first.

Than it would be called the British commonwealth but no It's just the commonwealth of nations. The commonwealth is to make good relations, discuss trades and the commonwealth games ect. It's not an reminder anymore because now countries that are not part of the empire can join the commonwealth, for example Mozambique(which was a Portuguese colony).

This 'Queen' is the representative of an evil monarchy that oppressed and killed millions in the colonies for over 3 centuries. The monarchy looted over 50 trillion dollars in today's money from the colonies. But all seems forgotten the way it is glorified in the Western (British and American) media. She (and the monarchy) should apologize for the historical atrocities and the human sufferings caused and return the colonial loot which fills British museums (and her crown)..

I see many comments highlighting that slavery has happened and nothing can be done and at this point and time everyone must moved on, its all happened in the past. 1. Slavery wasn't not about physical dominance, it was about stripping the identity of those countries, as well as the wealth of its country. 2. Slavery hasn't stopped, in the contemporary world those countries are still grappling from the grip of its colonial masters. Humanitarian aid id pretended to be sent to Africa, the Africa with abundant gold reserves. 3. The coloniser nations are prospering on corrupt stolen loots of their ancestors. If they truly mean it that they do not support colonialism they should send back Gold and artifacts looted in Africa. And they won't send it back because Europe is barren and resource-less. The only Country that has resources is Russia and it is apparent during this Sanctions and what's interesting is that Russia never colonized a single state in Africa.

They cannot be selective with what legacy is remembered. Our surnames are that of our ancestors slave masters, the prosperity of countries, institutions, organisations, cities etc have been built on the back of slavery and yet they still ensure that institutions, organisations hold down, hold back, demonise those from the afro Caribbean/African communties to this day in prisons, schools, careers history books. Here in New Zealand any one that works in Government, police, judiciary, military...etc, make their oath to Queen Elizabeth the second, the Queen of New Zealand, her heirs and successors. There is no entrenched constitution here, and sovereignty resides not in the people from where power is derived, but in the monarchy of which none of us are a part, and these oath takers make no oath to protect its people, but continue to rape and pillage for the "Crown" and the "Royal Family" in the form of a constitutional monarchy, democracy is nothing more than mob rule, and its that mob that make the rules. It is time we moved forward and cut the apron strings of the monarchy, they have stolen enough from indigenous peoples from around the globe, and continue to flaunt their genocidal theft in the form of "Royal Tours", their apologies mean nothing, especially when they still live off the massive fortune from the misfortune, genocide, theft and atrocities that were caused to millions of others in the name of their family that gets inherited by their heirs and successors, then so too should the consequences be inherited. Just my thoughts.
