The Royal Enfield Classic 350 Finds some Peak District Back Roads

It’s a cold January day, but I can’t resist getting the bike out and having a ride over the Derbyshire Peaks.
As soon as I could I turned off the main roads and let the Royal Enfield Classic 350 find some Peak District back roads.
A lovely tree lined track leads me eventually to Castleton and a welcome coffee.
Grab your cuppa and let’s ride.
Ride safe, Dave.

After a rough 2023 with "life events" and mental health chalenges i'm finally going to put a deposit on a new classic 350 tomorrow, its going to be my therapy bike. Thank you for videos like this that show how powerful the mix of a great bike and scenery can be... Looking forward to a year of bimblimg around Norfolk and wherever else it takes me.

@@SoupDragon63 Hi, yes i put the deposit down today on a marsh grey classic. Did a test ride earlier in the week and its lovely to ride even after 9 years away from bikes. I have a lot of anxiety as well so there has been a lot of online research and far too many visits to the dealer checking details before taking the plunge. Hope you find some inner peace that lets you make the right decision for you.

Thanks for that little bimble. The part where the mist falls away and the scenery opens in front… just like a painting slowly forming. What is the slight buzzing that can be heard on the soundtrack. We used to hear it also when riding Ivy..? Ride safe

My sort of lanes (hence channel name). Approached Castleton from that end on my ride 16/9/23, first time I’ve been that way, also found an interesting route back into Stony Middleton at the end of my filmed part of ride

Beautiful countryside and views, thanks for bringing us along for the ride! I was in Manchester last week on business, and took the opportunity to take the scenic route home south, visiting the Peaks. Not on my bike this time sadly, but in a Mini Cooper. I drove the Snake pass, Winnats pass, the Cat & Fiddle (so good I drove it twice!), stopped off at Ladybower reservoir, Castleton for Coffee, Bakewell for tart, and fish and chips in Matlock Bath at the bikers place. Definitely coming on the bike next time!

Fabulous views, and exactly why less (CC's) equals more (fun). I run a ZZR1400 and while I have had a great ride out on it today (02/02/24) there's no way it's suitable for nadgery little lanes. But on Monday I have a Honda NC750 coming, and the one thing I'm looking forward to most of all is its suitability for trips out such as the one you've posted here...

These unplanned adventures are really interesting, Dave, as indeed the road less travelled frequently is. It's currently a bit warm here for riding; 45C a couple of days ago, 41C yesterday. The next place up the track (Geraldton, West Aust) had 47C yesterday, making it the hottest place on earth. PHEW!!! 🥵Fortunately, tomorrow is looking better with 25C forecast, so I'll be out on the Guzzi Breva 750. 👍

Hi Dave, I fitted the Oxford Hot Grips Pro Adventure heated grips to my Classic 350. They work superbly and look great on the bike - no big switches anywhere and you can connect them straight to the battery, they have a thyristor (? - don’t ask me) that switches them off if you forget and the battery voltage drops. Excellent product, work superbly and look like they belong on the bike!

Castleton's backside! Nice one Dave, the unplanned routes are nearly always the best, it helps if you can recall the route, if you do fancy a return trip later, a friend and I found a quiet beach in Malta, 5 years ago, neither of us have seen it since! Cheers DINO. Et Al.

Hi Dino, l have problems remembering which country I'm in, never mind those back roads 🏍️🤓 I can remember about 35 years ago being on holiday in Malta, st Paul's bay and walking to Medina. It was hot and a long way. Stay safe all of you, Dave

A refreshing change of pace from many YT Videos! I really enjoy your "Last Of The Summer Wine" approach to motorcycling! The 350 is perfect for it by the looks of it. I am considering downsizing from my old GS1200, do think the 350 will cope with my wife as pillion? (no jokes please!). I agree about the roads you feature, a favourite area for me too. I also recommend the Mortimer Road that joins the Snake Pass up to Midhopestones by the A616. Re: Hand warmers, if just for temporary use during cold weather, you might consider the Hot Hands variant, which just wrap around the grips. Cheap and simple and they do work! Cheers.

I great ride around the area. I haven’t ridden any of those lanes either. Wasn’t surprised when you came across the cyclists again, as you had sort of gone in circle. I do that sometimes, lol.

When I picked up my new Classic in April 22 the dealer fitted a set of Daytona heated grips that still used the bar end weights. These heated grips have a small button on the left grip to activate them, to change the heat you just press the button and depending on the heat a little light changes colour. I must say they have been superb but now have the Royal Enfield bar end mirrors but the grips still look great ! 😊

Great video Dave , I go up that way myself quite often, it's less than an hour from where I am, and there's still some places I find through aimlessly wandering about ! 😆 I'll usually finish off aiming for the Yonderman cafe for a brew and a butty if I start feeling a bit nippy and hungry ,and there's nice views from the tables out the back. Cheers Mel 🍻

I had to smile when you were pointing out the humps that could have been lead mines or quarrying, out of sight on your right was an absolutely HUGE quarry, the one feeding the cement works you mentioned earlier.

Another lovely ride Dave, great to see you back on a Classic 350, That was a lovely route. I count myself very lucky to live on the west side of Sheffield, Every Friday I meet up with friends in Hathersage and go out cycling, often following that route down past the quarry into upper Bradwell, I stupidly often hit 45mph on the pushbike down that hill. whereas on the 350 keep it to 30! Having said that, only done 300 miles on the Enfield, and 1900 on the bicycle since June.. New Years resolution, "Use the Enfield more!" Stay safe Dave, and keep warm! best regards...Pete

Another nice video Dave - thank you mate. I love Castleton - there's a cave called The Devil's Arse, as you probably know. I saw the Sheffield singer Richard Hawley play a gig in there one late December - Christ it was cold - about -5. Do you mind me asking what camera you're using? It's great quality and the image stabilisation is amazing considering it's stuck to your helmet. The helmet moves in and out of shot meaning your head is moving, but the shot stays steady! It's obviously some very impressive technical voodoo. Lastly, a suggestion for your new bike's name. How about Rosie? Or Ruby? 😃

I wish British motorcycles and cars makers were still around. I hate the look of modern cars and bikes today. They all look like crap. No style at all. Today's motorcycles are a collection of government regulations on 2 wheels.😢.l just love 💕 flying my DeHaviland Gypsy Moth. She is as old as my house 🏠.103 years old both of them and still going strong.Old things are the best.
