My experience was very much the same as yours. I had put my name down for the 39mm in Harrods and was told it shouldn't take to long and the they discontinued it so I walked away. However in the 12 second video Rolex released on the Friday before Watches and Wonders.... I saw a glimpse of the destintive 6 induce of the Explorer and gambled that meant a larger size was coming so I called my AD and asked to be put on the list..... Before it had even been released or set up in their system with a reference number. And sure enough I was first there and got the call in June. Picked up the watch and love it!!!

It wears like a 38-39" watch so you don't even need a 7" wrist.

We have similar taste my friend. My Rolex journey started with a DJ41 which was a short 1 month wait. I then picked up my rootbeer which was a whopping 3 years 😂 i can confirm it was worth it because its an amazing watch. I then picked up an Explorer 1 40mm about 3 months later. Im not in any rush to add more watches (or spend more money) but id love a Submariner no date one day. Enjoy your Explorer!

I like you, have gotten the call for the 40mm Explorer. It took a soul search but I declined as I really want to wait for a Sub no date. If do this, I need to do this proper or not at all.

Nice. I certainly couldn’t be arsed with the process but you’ve got what you wanted so enjoy.

My experience with NKUWAN was fantastic. The watch arrived quickly and was exactly as described.

From what I understand, with the secondary market softening, demand for less popular models is dipping significantly now that dealers aren't selling much of their inventory to greedy resellers. I'll never pay a penny over retail, and will be happy to wait rather than reward the dirty resale bastards who have ruined Rolex for so many people.

Congrats mate, got the call today for my Root beer GMT Master II two tone, it’s come at the wrong time but hey, I’ve been on the list for nearly 3 years! I put my name down at an independent too I wouldn’t be surprised if I get the call there too as a mate did, 2 no date subs at once! (I’ve got one of them) pick up Friday just bought a Bel Canto too!😂

I was on the waiting list for 2 1/2 years for the new Rolex Air-King, I got the call in June 2023 from the AD in Sheffield where I live. Getting the call from the AD was like music to my ears! Having sold my old Rolex Air-king (1995) 3 years ago and more or less instantly regretting it, the wait was torture. But now I’m so pleased! The watch is ace and the AD’s were brilliant. The AD had some used Air-Kings for sale over the 2 1/2 period I was waiting, but the price was an eye watering 10K 😣 I paid £6,250 for the new watch. I understand buying a watch like this isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I work hard for my money and this was a nice treat for myself! Of course with the wife’s consent. 😂

It was Goldsmiths at Meadowhall.

I bought mine in June this year. I was told explicitly I would get mine the following month and sure enough I got it. I waited a year, and then made a couple of visits to make clear my intentions. Originally I wanted a datejust but it was too flashy for me. So I changed it

You're not kidding about the bracelet length! I usually have to remove 2-3 links but not with the Explorer. I originally wanted a 36 because of it being the classic size but I could only just get the 36 over my hand with a bit of a squeeze let alone do it up. I was further disappointed to find it looked ridiculous on my flat 8" wrist so turned to the 40. This looked the perfect size on the wrist thankfully but I could only get it done up with the Easylink extended. AD didn't bat an eyelid though and said it was no problem to add an extra link. Now I just need the one with my name on it to come in!

Ive gone on the list for a green sub and gmt pepsi at two ADs. One AD is very cold and matter of fact and the other one will chat with me for awhile about all sorts of things and is very nice. I havent got the call for the watches I requested but last week I was offered a fluted bezel green dial DJ on jubilee but I turned it down bc I wouldnt have any money for the ones I want lol. Been about 7 months but im patient. Id rather wait then pay an extra 5-10k.

Today I got a text from the same AD and id completely forgotten about the Explorer, and now I’m so tempted to bite the bullet. The company bonus will be the deciding factor. If I get it, thats my last watch in my lifetime.

I waited less than a week for my Explorer 36mm. Brand new AD that I walked in, dressed in my jeans and T-shirt. I asked for an Explorer 36 or DJ 36 as I work for the government so I wanted something understated and fits my baby size wrist. He took my details and I was invited upstairs to view more models and was then offered a 36 DJ white dial Roman numeral with diamonds at 6 and 9, but I didn't like it so I declined. I walked out not expecting anything from them, but I still got the call a few days later. May be I was genuine? He did tell me he called immediately when the watch arrived. It was a fun experience, getting my first Rolex. That was in April this year, now I have my DJ 36 Wimbledon fluted Jubilee that I want from my old AD in July and I think I'm done with Rolex, all their other watches are too big for me. That's my collecting journey with Rolex.

I’ve been on the list for a 124170 (36mm Explorer) approximately 20 months now. I’m surprised by how long it’s taken but I’m hoping it’ll be soon. I’ve never had a high end watch and I wanted one to last a lifetime, I chose 36mm as I have a 6” wrist and it fits well. I hope I it get it in time for my 30th birthday.

I spoke to the AD yesterday and they said the current wait time is 12 months, when I asked if there was any reason my wait is so much longer they said there’s approximately 40 people ahead of me on their list. I’m hoping to get it for my 30th birthday in a few months, which is what I originally wanted it for and gave that reason when I put my name down.

Never had yo wait for the call as i haven't placed an order for a rolex after 2010. Since 1976 till 2006 i bought a few, then 2006 bought the 1st cermamic version, was a full gold gmt green dial which traded (i know i know but hate vegetable dials) for a black dial yellow gold. Then 2008 bought the ss gmt and sold the gold, by target was since 2006 the ceramic. Then, 2010 i bought the sub in two tone black which traded with the steel 3 months later, the steel was unworn. 2 months later bought the DS 21mm lugs ad they said there wouldn't be anymore SDs.....Never fell for the 22mm version. Never looked back. The 3135 is great, i dont need the 3235 and surely wont fall for Rolex marketing tricks with the 41mm sub. That model cane way too soon.

This AD game of "building a relationship" and "put your name on the list" is fairly strange. Id rather pay more on the secondary market than indulge in that fraud. Seems like not a lot of greasing the wheel needed to be done here.

i have been on the list for the no date sub 124060 for 9 months. told the AD it will be a present for me for my 50th birthday in february of 2025. they said it should not be a problem, but i have my doubts.

According to a well-known jeweler in Portland, Oregon, 124060, 126610LV, and 126610LN are still about 2 years out...as of yesterday. I think I'll continue to use the clock on my phone to tell time.

Since my last comment, I decided to get a new band for my vintage Seiko 6309-7049 from 1984. Looks like new, and keeps perfect time. Wearing it right now!

The good thing about this 40mm version, is the plethora of strap options now, and being such a lightweight face, it is a strap monster. If you find it looks to big for your wrist, straps make a huge difference looks wise.

I'm in Australia. Very very few people wear Rolex, just mostly smart watches or nothing at all. In richer suburbs I do see a lot more luxury/ultra luxury watches. Unlike the UK, people don't generally fear for their safety here.

depends where you are and where you work, although I'm not Aussie, I've lived there for a bit, and if you work in finance and in the Sydney CBD (Martin Place, George St, Barangaroo), you'll see Rolex mostly Subs and Datejust on an almost daily basis.@@g43654

Tipp: You might want to check the Explorer's accuracy. I got my 40mm Explorer in September. And the accuracy is just out of this world. In more than 100 days, it is off by less than 9 sec. That's less than 0.1 sec/day. You would be hard pressed to find a quartz watch this accurate. Simply amazing!

@@LastWatch There's a guy who run the YT channel "Trei Ceasuri Rele" that claims there are issues in regard to the 32xx movement. He claims many people that have a Rolex with this movement have seen an amplitude drop over time and that the accuracy (and movement itself) is greatly affected. The comments in this video are interesting too as some people also seem to have had this problem. Now, I was considering putting my name on the "list" for an Oyster Perpetual in 36mm this year, but because of this video, I've decided to hold on a few months just to see how Rolex responds to this matter. I was just wondering if you had ever heard of this before and what are your thoughts about this problem. Thanks and great videos by the way, I really enjoy your channel. ~ Cheers!

Waited over 3 years already, started with yellow OP or blue milgauss both discontinued in that time, swapped to a green OP. Had bought my wife a Tudor at this AD , thought it might help. It hasn’t and frankly I’m beginning to despise Rolex for their AD’s action, it’s all smoke and mirrors. It should be if you order a watch , you’re told how long it will take not just kept in the dark indefinitely. It’s soured what should be a pleasant experience.

I wonder why so many people get on the list for years and get nowhere. I asked for an Explorer 1, I got it within a week. I asked for a Wimbledon, I got it within 4 months. No prior purchase history either. Weird as I speak from my personal experience. May be I'm an outlying case on the statistical scheme of things. Yellow/green OP and Milgauss are very, very hard to get though. My AD didn't see many Milgauss coming in in a year, if at all.

Yeah, I love IWC watches as well, but they are so big on my wrist. My Explorer 36 is great, although it's the slowest in my collection, at minus 2.5 sec a day, regardless of power level, orientation or season. Whereas my DJ keeps to 0.1 to 0.5 sec of deviation a day. Apart from the slowness, it's my first and most worn watch in my small collection.

@@g43654 You cant buy a modern IWC with their junk mechanisms. They are such a shameless con company that they were putting Sellitia movements in their lower tier watches inc. the Pilots mark ones for some time. Now they use a Richemont one so good luck on getting reasonable service with them since they probably hoard the parts. Their higher line of watches like the big pilots had an in-house movement which was famously bad for timekeeping. All that for a Rolex price tag. Its a joke of a company which makes nicely designed cases & thats about it. As for Rolex, they sell for 2 times what they are worth across the board, a factory made mass produced workhorse movement put in cases which they share across their lines, saving them money for their 'foundation' but not for your pocket. I reckon, since I dont like to slam something without providing solutions, is go Japanese with GS, or else Vintage higher end brands. Thats where the value & quality lies. Rolex is the opposite where bankers & car salesmen go to get a watch which makes a 'statement'. ugh.

A lot of people are getting the call. If you wanted to go pre owned you can get that watch under retail, but you have to bargain and say no to the wrong price. I have a couple of Rolexes and unless they offer me a Daytona, I am done with Rolex.

Ill never buy from an AD. Period. I refuse to play the game, i won't beg someone for the right to spend my own money. I will always buy grey market. I don't mind paying a 10-20 percent premium. I'm paying for the convenience if anything.

@@AZadeh-nd8vx The difference between spending 8,000 dollars and 10,000 dollars or 10,000 and 12,500 for someone who can afford these watches to begin with is pretty trivial. Definitely when we are talking about wait times of up to a year or more. Of course there are ridiculous cases like the Daytona selling for triple MSRP but these are rare cases, most of the professional line is a negligible price difference. For instance, I recently bought a 40mm Explorer and its MSRP at the AD was 7,700, I bought it for 8,900 on the grey market brand new with stickers. The AD said it could be a 6-8 month wait lol. To me the convenience of that trivial price difference is worth it for me. Also most ADs expect you to spend a lot of money for the opportunity to even be considered for a piece so you're still saving money on the grey market often times.

@@AZadeh-nd8vx Hell Ben Bridge alone which is the largest Rolex AD in America expects you to spend on average of 3-4 thousand dollars in jewelry to even be considered for a Daytona or a Submariner. For a submariner, I will spend far less than 3-4 grand in premium on the grey market and not be stuck with a bunch of bullshit I don't want lol

Rolex dont appear to knoa what it wants with thr explorer, 36mm, tp 39mm, back to 36mm and now a 40mm option. Make up your mind, true to heritage or modern size....looks like herzitage is second to commercialism

Had the call for the 40mm Explorer a month ago, great watch couldn't get on with the 36mm Explorer has the Bracelet is far too narrow 🫣

I was like you at first. Now I love everything about the 36mm, including the slender bracelet. The Explorer is a very slow burner, that's for sure.
