Rolex watch review *very honest*

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This is a review applicable to most Rolex watches. In this video, I show you the Rolex Oyster Perpetual 31mm, silver dial, Reference 277200. Then I tell you my controversial opinions that would probably annoy any major watch KZread channel. Then I tell you how I got the watch.
Thank you for requesting this, ‪@euriditia‬. Knowing it was time to make this video got me out of bed this morning. It was such fun to create.
No matter which watch you get, I hope you enjoy it and wear it in good health.

I've been collecting watches on an off for 25 years, and I've owned a similar OP36 for five years. This is the most accurate assessment of a watch I've seen on KZread.

Rolex … Modern manufacturing processes, wide availability - easy access - and mass production of once hard to obtain materials, and technology have rendered a Rolex no more than a status piece. You buy a Rolex just to say ‘hey I spent a bunch of money’. Quartz watches have been beating manual, kinetic, and automatic watches since the 60’s. Rolex quality control isn’t even what it used to be. Solar watches have with radio time syncing and satellite wave reception have also changed the game. A sub $500 watch can be more accurate than a Rolex along with being more rugged, reliable, durable. Artistry. Rolex isn’t doing anything new or groundbreaking. You buy a Rolex to say you spent a lot of money.

Thanks for your great video! Caseback: Rolex were always originally a function over beauty company, and so having an exhibition glass caseback would compromise the waterproofness or at very least give one extra point of potential failure. History: Rolex has a very complicated and interesting history and marketing has played an important role, in fact the company was left in trust by the founder so it’s a non profit, private company and always will be, meaning no shareholders to please and water down the quality of the products, all the remaining profits after paying employees go to marketing or charitable causes. (Which is also good marketing) Lovely watch, I hope you enjoy it! :-)

I guess the solid case-back argument might hold in the 50s and 60s when Rolex's raison d'être was making tough tool watches, but no longer seems to hold water (pun intended) in modern times, when it's become a bit of a stretch to consider a brand-new GMT-Master II or a Smurf Submariner a tool. Also, plenty of modern manufacturers are capable of making tough, highly water-resistant watches with a see-through case-back. Case-in-point: the Nomos Club Sport Neomatik has a sapphire case-back, 200m water-resistance with just a push-pull crown, and is less than 9mm thick. P.S. loved the Zenith Chronomaster Revival Shadow shout-out - that's such a brilliant watch!

This is highly insightful! I’m curious how strong the sapphire caseback is compared to steel either when a fast, direct, perpendicular force is applied or if the material is dropped with an intense shear force.

@@janegoldberg I do! Got my first Rolex last year and it’s the 40mm Explorer. Simplicity and relative anonymity. Much like yours! Yes sapphire crystal glass can still shatter upon impact with relative ease if it’s hit in the wrong place, although much harder break than regular glass or acrylic crystal. Adrian Barker channel on KZread (Bark & Jack) recently shattered his Explorer 2 crystal while photographing the watch when dropped onto a rock from only a couple of feet. But don’t feel like you should baby your watch! They are intended for use in tough conditions and daily wear, enjoy and live your best life, congratulations on your amazing watch, Rolex is a status symbol but they also make a fantastic product, and like yourself every experience I have had with the company and it’s salespeople has been positive! :-)

Lovely Oyster perpetual. I like Rolex; they make dependable and pretty awesome looking watches. They also don't drop significantly in value either, so you can always sell it or trade it in for something else easily in the future. My problem with Rolex, and this is likely more of an issue here in Hong Kong, is that they're just so ubiquitous. I see Rolexes on people's wrist every single day here, including Daytonas, GMTs. It's almost like wearing a uniform to fit into the social norm here. I guess the longer you're in the hobby, the more you appreciate the smaller or less obvious brands. And branding no longer takes centre stage in the choice.

Thanks Alec. That’s interesting to hear. It’s funny how different things are in different countries; the Rolex problem would be like a paradise to me. We have the problem you speak of but with Apple Watches, even in New York. I wonder if that’s like Omega in London to some extent. We have an event called Windup Watch Fair with many smaller brands. If you are visiting the US, you might enjoy it.

A lot of collectors talk about "Rolex regret". Many get their first Rolex and regret buying it for a number of reasons. The watches are more hype about a brand than real substance. I got my first Daytona at my local AD. This when you could actually walk in and buy a watch. No waitlists or other hurdles. I even received a small discount on the stainless steel model. I was struck by how cheap the bracelet felt compared to other Swiss brands. I never had regrets about Patek, Omega, Vacheron Constantin, Cartier, Tudor, or Panerai.

  • @meetseth3

They're not real collectors. They are frauds who wanted a Rolex to flex. Real collectors appreciate Rolex and know what they are all about. I have a SS Pepsi and SS Daytona. I got both from the AD in California. It's been amazing owning these coveted pieces. You clearly dont know what you are talking about if you think it feels "cheap" -- go back to fantasy land.

Sweet funny video 😂 ... sorry to break it to you but in the U.K all ladies including the OP 31s are all available ready to buy, got offered one a couple years ago and thats when it was a massive hype in the watch industry 😅.. but dont matter in the end. I'm glad you love your new watch. At least you can start a "relation" with the AD, and who knows, you will get a chance to go for the hotter models? 🎉

I got my explorer with almost no wait time a couple years ago, I think it was 8 days? I just walked in and had a nice chat with a sales assistant and they called me a week later 😅.
