Black Men Smile Creator and Emory University Professor Carlton Mackey discusses the importance of art that reflects the time it was created as well the role of the artist in movements for social justice. This video snippet was part of a larger promotional campaign for OFF THE WALL, the brainchild of Atlanta arts organization WonderRoot, the project is designed to honor the city’s role in the Civil Rights Movement and address modern civil rights issues-including but not limited to race, gender, sexual orientation, and immigration status leading up to the arrival of Super Bowl LII in Atlanta.
