I am truly amazed at the skills you displayed in this video from casting the deers foot to breaking in the horse. It's funny how the ranch life forces one to learn these type of skills, something that city folk will never get the opportunity to learn. Great video, the effort you put into these videos does not go unnoticed.

Amazing video, your compassion along with your families for animals is a beautiful thing. One of my most favorite things to watch is a cutting horse do their job. Horses are magnificent animals and to see one do that is almost poetry in motion, wonderful job with the calf and tiny, thanks for your videos

We have a program called Horses Of Warriors. It’s a Combat Veteran program and we show Vets how a horse can change our life’s. From ground work to riding, we do it all. I’ve been working with this Wild Mustang and he’s all gas! Hopefully soon he will be ready and safe

Great video...the good horses rare and worth every moment. Vet wrap.....awesome casting, a calm and quiet vet assistant is worth a lot. And horns and head stuck....my last good Shorthorn bull got his head stuck in a round bale feeder. He actually was able to carry it around on his head. The noise he made as he beat on the side of the barn was amazing. Hack saw and lots of scratching got him out. I love your videos

Dang I live in a city and this lifestyle seems almost magical. A deer shows up, now its your pet. Lol. Then you have amazing scenery and all these animals with different personalities. Just wow. Love these vids.

Hi, I'm in the UK, a longtime rider of mostly warm bloods. I love the calf getting his head stuck in the gate! We have a city in the North of England. Its name is Westhoughton. Or more commonly known as Cow - yed city.. The story goes, a farmer finds his cow with its neck stuck in a 5 bar gate. After much deliberation, he gets himself a saw, and proceeds to saw the cows head off! Neighbouring Farmer hears all this, and asks. "Jack why you saw off yon cows yed?" "Why Bob, cow cost no more than 10bob, gate was 25bob! Made sense to buy a new cow!" Happened in 1870 and is a true story. Hence the nickname of the city, and the cows head though a gate as its city's emblem! Lovely young horse, his owner I'm sure will be pleased with him once he returns home. My 2 Havaverans are long gone now, and my daughter has my Stallion Saxon Boy. My young mare Roma is now with my friend, has I damaged my neck in a point to point a few years ago. It's now caught up with me. I still love horses, riding from aged 3 I suppose I always will.

A trick I learned for a splint is to split a piece of PVC pipe in half. Put padding or gauze under, then the PVC, then wrap with vet wrap.

But the pvc is not the same diameter as the leg...so ?????

That was a pretty good ride, Weavers have some pretty good horses. I've used a Weaver stud on my mares. When calves get their heads stuck you just wish they would relax and quit pulling back.

This looks like a farm my ex husband used to shoe horses called Creek Plantation. Famous cutting horses back in late 80’s

I own a gelding from the weaver ranch ‘Playgun Go Boon’...he’s 11 years old, been a rope horse since he was 4 and still bucks when cow fresh...but is the most talented horse I’ve ever owned

Those peptoboonsmall horses have always been cold backed. I don’t think I’ve ever known a peppy San badger to not be cold backed, no matter how old they were.

Another great video. After reading many of the comments some folks are just rude. What works for one person may not work for someone else. I don't know what happened to Tiny. But let's face it a "normal deer life" means getting shot, cruelly killed & eaten by predators or run over by a car. With all that room I would have kept her as a pet & at least one really sweet, nice deer will be safe in this world. PS: You're a lucky family to be able to live a good life like you do.

you guys are great.

So Was watching today and the bucking, and him saying well I like it when they do that lmao. You and my Dad damn! I had my horse do that today and I rode it well for four bucks but could not get his head up, so I ended up diving off and am now bruised. I did get back on after we ran him around a bit. But dang I never realized he was that good at bucking guy missed a bet for a career.

Great video and good job sittin that colt you have got great body positioning. Just wondering if you have ever tried pvc pipe for a splint? I use it any time I have a calf with a broken leg it works great just cut it down the middle with a table saw and sharp it with the top a little shorter than the bottom. And leave the bottom low enough so they walk on it and not there foot, use some kind of padding like you did and duct tape it on it’s the best thing I have found so far, I always carry one in my doctoring bag. Just thought I’d let you know what I found works good for me

H Dog, I have used PVC. I think it's probably the best thing for calves, etc. The deer's leg was just too small. I actually came back a couple days later and rewrapped her leg with a piece of 1" pipe insulation and 3 rolls of vet wrap. That worked great. Thanks for watching! Richard

Love it Living on a ranch we are thrown some curve balls the Pros cant hit..but somehow from making due with what we have in experience and somewhat limited resources and hard work gotta make it work attitude because we cant quit or fail..It all comes together....most of the time. I like horses that has some shit in its neck..They got heart and talent. But a Family horse? ..maybe Larry Mahan family..Haha But he will make a nice cow horse for sure.

It's all fun when breaking young horses...but when my 4 year old mare would go to bucking she would throw her self back to the point where I felt like she was trying to kill me ..

Im not sure why Boone got excited seeing the cow . . . He'd been following it for a bit before he began bucking... i mean, there's no way you'd just throw him in with a cow fresh, I'm sure you walked him past the fence of cows and walked him up to them a few times first, making sure he got a good feel for them first.

I had some random person knock on my door sobbing. I normally dont answer the door to any one but i did and she goes my dog broke its leg and heard from so and so who told so and so who heard from so and the you were a vet. I said key word was. Shes now balling but but i heard you fixxed so and sos horse and mended so and sos chicken. I said no and looked at the dog shes ballin crying about having to put it down. So give in fix her dog now she wont stop sending me animals. Now people call me often i have a snake,i have a hawk or an owl or a flying purple people eater

Chances are you may not read this FancySassy80 but I’m a horse trainer in Australia. The best advice I can give you to help with the bucking issue is make sure that you saddle the horse and lunge it around a round pen for a while until she’s turning to the inside and more or less listening. If she’s a broke horse then the bucking is triggered by a lack of respect and the horse being reactive rather than attentive and respectful. Just teach her that you’re in charge. When you go to mount her, do so from the neck and swing around and over, always making sure to keep the head turned into your boot as you do so. That way the only thing she can do is spin in a circle, and can’t buck or bolt. I hope this is helpful to you. I know what it’s like to lose your confidence from a fall.

Looks like you ambushed the horse with your leg there. Something that was also very noticable is how he keeps fighting the bit. You’ve got hard loud hands.

@@lucasa1849 Boon will go progress into different types of headgear throughout his life including bitless options. To skip the snaffle would be handicapping him and could have serious consequences later in life. When he goes off and is ridden by other folks he needs to have the skills to handle whatever they choose to ride him in, including a bit. He won't have a say in it. It's my job to prepare them for a successful life in the world. Watch the video again closely with this in mind and see if you really think my hands are hard and loud. No disrespect meant. Richard

If the horse is bucking undersaddle then you don't train it undersaddle. Put yourself in your horses shoes. Horses buck undersaddle for a lot of reasons. One of the main resons is that in the wild horses are brought down by predators by the predators bringing them to the ground. So basically tour the predator when you got on that horse when he was scared. You train the horse from the ground and build a relationship of love and friendship showing that horse your worthy of acceptance. Not by running the spooks out of him either. Got to caroline volandt rider please.

If you have a ranch with over 100 horses. You can't take 3 months for every horse to get them saddle safe. I'm all for a good relationship with a horse etc. But those are working horses. And not your little lab horses in your barn. If you watch the nature of people. Horses starting to buck when you put the first saddle on. IS NORMAL SNOWFLAKE. 😐

@@sarahnystrom8517 I don't want to argue either. But if you couldn't tell his horses are all in a very good shape and are well taken care of. You can see alot of people malnourishing their horses and still riding them and putting great wounds onto their backs. I think he does a fine job. You shut watch "equestrians" that treat their horses bad. He doesn't, sure horses may spook, but that's not what the horse in the video did.

Dont mean to be rude but that horse bucked because of you the running steer didn't spook him you did. You pushed him to fast you were having to plow rein him around to the steer and he was trying to understand you but then then you piled running in on top of it he blew up thats your falt . Then you taught the horse its ok to blow up when he's scared( just ride me out and ill get over it he thinks now.) You gave him no discipline for that behavior. would not surprise me if he does that later on down the road with the client. From what i heard the client brought you the horse for one reason only.... The horse bucked him off into a fence. Hey just my two cents take it or leave it.

Not all training goes as planned of course I did notice he'd been closer to the steer earlier in the training you dont think the cow sence kicked in tracking that steer.

I was replying to those who say the guy pushed the colt too hard. It ended up here instead of as a main post. I don't baby my colts, and as a result, they can handle almost anything. I never said that shit doesn't happen.
