The River with a Thousand Penis Statues
Kbal Spean, no doubt Cambodia's holiest stream. At its height, it would have purified the water of more than a million people living in the city it fed.
I spent a long time debating whether to release this video, meaning to release it last week with rabies coming out swapped. I'm simply not happy with how it turned out. But in the end, I figured it was better to have an off episode than no episode at all. Let me know if you agree/disagree in the comments. We have a few video ideas from Japan that never made the light of day for similar reasons.

The music for this video was graciously provided by Kevin MacLeod at incompetech.com. It is Creative Commons, and he is no doubt unaware we're using it, but hey. I still think he's great for letting it happen.

Thanks to everyone who asked about our Patreon. I'll put out a full video when I get the time, but for those who want to jump the gun and get on board from the start, here's the link:
Fun fact: the opening walk down the stairs was cut short on video because the police enter the scene to stop me from filming with a microphone.
As an Amateur Historian of my Beloved Cambodia, or Land of Khmer's, Your whole series of Cambodia makes me so proud I'm shedding a tear. You have clearly done your research and have pushed off any bias. As a country and people that gets recognized as having a cool temple and a recent dark past, the rich historical significance of Cambodia in the whole region and even South Asia is often overlooked. Thank you for your hard work. You have turned me into a Rare Earth subscriber, and will be referring this series when people ask me to tell them a quick history of Cambodia.
THIS
you had me at penis
This channel has helped me learn so much about other culture
I may sound like complaining, but I see some inaccuracies here. For example you have repeatedly mentioned in the video that the Brahmins were the kings. However, the ruling class of India were not Brahmins, but were khatriyas. Brahmins were the class of knowledge and worshiping. I loved the video. Just pointing this out out of curiosity.
Some of the most interesting and engaging content on KZread. Thank you so much for continuing to make these videos!
I would love to see more 'unreleased stuff and behind the scenes, if you have it. Some people make a separate channels for stuff like that but you can also just release them here, just title them something like Missing Files or whatever. Love everything else you're doing, especially end-cards.
Hey, just wanted to drop in and thank you again for this series of videos. I obviously subscribed to this channel while your father was Commander of the ISS and I always liked those videos.
Honestly, one of the funniest yet educational videos I’ve ever seen. Congrats sir
Damn you are just knocking it out! Every video of yours is thoughtful and so well done. Keep it up!
I hit like before I even watched it. I always look forward to your videos. Thanks so much for doing them!
Really interesting ep. visited SE asia n japan a couple yrs ago. Your vids have added a new layer of perspective for me to better understand what I didn’t at the time. Thanks. Keep them coming!!!
Love rare earth! What I’m seeing here is the rich tapestries of cultures previously unknown (or forgotten, I’m an ancient) I truly enjoy your work.
Dude, even your "off" episodes are more valuable than the vast majority of dreck that's posted to KZread every second!
Hello, not to be too critical, but I know one of your inspirations is Tom Scott, and one of the many things he takes care of is subtitles in english. It does really help everyone whose main lang is not english as well as the hearing impaired. Aside from that, really good job as always and even better. Sorry for my english >.<
great work man, keep it up! love you!
You're really hitting ur stride. Keep it up
That's why I want to visit Cambodia 🇰🇭. Much love from 🇮🇳
