I really enjoyed this discussion, you made some valid points. I didn't realize it before, but it makes sense that the enemies to lovers trope is more popular and done better in fantasy. The high stakes and intensity of fantasy make the romance trope more compelling to read.

I need the stakes high high and I'm not getting that with a main character who works a 9-5 soz

A 9-5 just doesn't hit as good like we're already dealing with that in real life 🫡😂

I find it interesting how Romantasy as a term is used now. It's been around a longer time in Germany and I feel like it differs. Walked into a bookstore and we had a section with the label! The differences: for instance our Romantasy books here are not necessarily in a Fantasy world, but can be set in our world with fantasy elements. It resembles more urban fantasy romance of the late 2000s when I believe we started calling it that here. Less high fantasy setting. Have you heard of Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier? That was highly influential here in that genre. And authors are still trying to replecate that success! Our Romantisy is more like Isekai where a normal person is plunged into a magical adventure, I guess. The German genre includes more family in it's plot too, which I love! I prefer German Romantasy most of the time over the English Romantasy labled books! They're lighter, often more comedic in tone. They scratch a different itch for sure. Have a look. And now it is funny but usually when i am in a reading slump, i read romantasy in order to 'cure' it aahahahah, now all makes sense

Currently reading Fourth Wing and….. 😪😴🤔 Im about page 200 and I’m going to finish it. But someone please tell me it picks up or gets better! I liked the first little part and then it got seriously mundane

@@hannah.celinehart I quit at page 260. Hehe I started seeing more literary bookworms complaining about it being a poorly written novel and just hyped TikTok fiction. I’m not a big fantasy reader either! I’ve rarely enjoyed fantasies as I favor historical fictions and classics. So I’m already a bit biased as I don’t vibe with fantasy elements
