THE RISE OF RAGNAR BLACKMANE! ORIGINS OF THE LEGEND!

Hi all Wolf Lord Rho here!
Space Wolves week is underway! And today we discuss the beginnings of Ragnar Blackmane!
Spoiler Warning to begin! The events we are discussing today are from the Warhammer 40,000 novel "Space Wolf" by William King. As always I really recommend you read the stories for yourself first. As that's the best way to enjoy the lore for yourself! Not only that we help to support the great Games Workshop and Black Library. Because without them we don't have this amazing lore to talk about! There are many defining moments in the books for Ragnar that separate him from your average recruit and help us to understand how he grew. Learning that he MUST bury his tribal hatred of his packmate Strybjorn who was part of the raid that wiped his tribe out and ultimately killed Ragnar. He only managed this because Strybjorn conquered his hatred first and saved his life, causing Ragnar to understand that petty emotions from a past life only prevent him from fulfilling his role as a Space Wolf. This was a strong moment of humility for him. The events that led to him being cast out of the Space Wolves and forced to join the Wolfblade. Not many get to experience this and living on Terra gave him a keen understanding of the intrigue and manipulations that humans are capable of, and that the Imperium is far more corrupt than most marines ever comprehend. This likely sparked a zeal to fight not so much for the Imperium itself, but for its people who are largely ignorant of how much the Imperium intentionally causes strife in their lives for personal gain. He also learns that not all who are banished are without honour and redemption is not only possible but encouraged as it gives a man a drive he never had before. This enables him to be an much more inspirational leader, but also a clever one who knows that there is often more to a story than what is presented. He also worked closely with not only a Navigator, but 2 Inquisitors all of which have helped shape his mind to think not as a Fenrisian Barbarian, but allow others to think so giving him a valuable edge.

I think it depends. If we are talking about the likes of the 13th company, they can definitely speak and have a lot of control. In this case, it was a young initiate who has just succumbed to the curse, the beast was overpowering him and I think he only spoke in the end because as he was dying the rage of the beast somewhat subsided.
