THE HIGH LORDS OF TERRA BETRAY GUILLIMAN?

Ойындар

Hi all Wolf Lord Rho here!
Happy Thanksgiving to all my friends across the pond in the United States!
Today we discuss the return of the Primarch Roboute Guilliman, and the schemes, of the High Lords of Terra...
Spoiler Warning to begin the events we are discussing today are from the Warhammer 40,000 novel "Watchers of the Throne: The Emperor's Legion" by Chris Wraight. As always I really recommend you read the story for yourself first. As that's the best way to enjoy the lore, for yourself! Not only that we help to support the great Games Workshop and Black Library. Because without them, we don't have this amazing lore to talk about. Link: www.blacklibrary.com/warhamme...
I do not currently have Patreon. However if you wish to support the channel or would like to send me a gift as some have asked, then sending a virtual gift voucher to WolfLordRho@gmail.com using the link below will help towards the channel. The most humanising moment of the whole passage is when they think Guilliman's accent strange. If anything he speaks the Emperor's Gothic better than anyone yet they think he sounds out of place. If the very language of the Imperium has changed over time what chance the rest of it!

As an English major student who has studied NA, UK and Australian Englishes, that detail was a very nice touch. For a long time before globalization (and especially social media/Internet) the same type of situation arose in comparing NA and UK Englishes - US was so isolated from Europe etc that their English changed less from the base-line UK English than the actual UK English did. So Guilliman popping in after about 9k years in stasis would be like Shakespeare popping up in London right now, in a sense

Attempting to use the administratum and the systems of power against the man most responsible for their creation and thinking there was a chance it would work is a special kind of blissfully ignorant. Particularly when you're talking about a Primarch, a literal son of the God-Emperor and a tactician of both battlefield and administration nearly unparalleled even in his time. That said, it does kind of make sense that the High Lords would see any Primarch as a genuine threat to the Imperium, given their history. Guilliman was just the absolute worst possible matchup for them. It's really quite fortunate for the future returning Primarchs that their brother Roboute was the first to return, as he's made it MUCH easier and safer for them to rejoin the Imperium now, and no one could have done it better than him. Fingers crossed we get to see Jaghatai or the Lion back in the next edition!

He's been one of my favorites for a long time along with, funny enough Konrad Curze and Angron, although they fell to Chaos and had some fucked up shit happen to them. They're some of my favorites, just cause they seem more relatable to me that the rest. Plus I would like to see the Lion return so that GW can start to advance the storyline between The Unforgiven and The Fallen, plus my fingers are crossed for a 40k Dreadwing or Firewing. They'd seem perfect to bring back plus maybe a campaign book dedicated entirely to these new battles and rules. Idk as for the Khan's return but I just hope we get to see of more of the Dark Eldar home world along with a strong emphasis but model and rule wise to go really fucking fast. RG has experienced the onset of the HH, and the action of his traitor brothers have left him scared, those life lessons run deep. @@nicholasmorgan7609 It's complicated, what he did is break up the legions making them into smaller chapters to prevent a second "Horus Heresy" type of event by ensuring that no singular force of astartes if corrupted would be strong enough to topple the Imperium. It did more or less work, but it is aldo true that it has made them into an overall less effective fighting force. Changing them from massive front line forces, into what I could best describe as small units of elite special forces. Still devastating if used correctly, but lacking the long term staying power they once had.

He is an interesting custodian, but from the way he is described I don’t think he has been around as long as most of the others. He is kind of a junior or younger shield captain. Fun fact: All currently living Custodians are also about 10,000 years old. There's history walking around you everyday, Chancellor.

Is this really true though? I mean they do age and leave regular service to become agents.

@@kamilszadkowski8864 They do age. Albeit far more slowly than Astartes. But over time, and damages suffered over battle, they become Eyes of the Emperor. A Custodian only retires if his proficiency reduces by a tenth of a tenth (1%). For scale, Chapter Master Dante is just over 1500 yrs and is already withered in body and soul, although enduring awaiting his "prophecy". Most Custodes are still at peak condition after 10 Millennia.

@@vinayvenkatram8535 I think you forgot that Legio Custodes lost 90% of their active members during the War within Webway. This likely means that none of the currently active Custodes is even remotely close to being 10K years old as replenishing their losses must have taken a very long time meanwhile in those 10K years most of the veterans of the surviving 1 thousand most likely left their guard duty to become the Eyes of the Emperor.

@@kamilszadkowski8864 I haven't forgotten, just stated as "All" for dramatic effect. You are right though on the losses. Their numbers were replenished, and it took a long time. But no, it doesn't take thousands of years. Just far longer than regular Astartes. Maybe a few hundred. Definitely not over a thousand, which would still put them close 10,000 years old since we now stand in the M.42
