The Rise Of Emirates

Emirates, the long-haul carrier known for its luxury services, has set new standards for the way we travel. Like airlines everywhere, the carrier has been battered by the coronavirus pandemic. To keep customers safe and on board, Emirates adopted a variety of new protocols. The company also pivoted to cargo shipments to keep itself afloat. So will Emirates bounce back from the economic fallout pummeling the airline industry?

I think one of the reasons for the success of the ME3 carriers (Emirates included) is their geographical location from east to west. This might be a bit of a concern in the future as longer flights happen more frequently. In addition, I think the demise of Iran Air that used to be one of if not the largest airlines of the Middle East in the 70s before the Iranian revolution caused an end to the ambitious plans of the time.

Coming back it was the worst flight I’ve been on as far as turbulence. The first three hours of the flight on and off. The seat belt light going off and the plane shaking. No explanation as to why. I recently took another flight that had a lot of turbulence but the captain warned us and explained what was going on.

UAE has been doing a great job in all aspects so far. When they invest in something they try to make it the best they can as they understand what customers want. Look how they made a huge tourism industry out of a desert. It has its flaws but it is an extremely safe and peaceful country that is also multicultural. It did so well in COVID crisis as 50% of the population is now vaccinated. It fined anyone who didn't wear masks in public and appropriately applied lockdowns in extreme times, and now slowly they will open things up again. Its leadership seems very practical and aware of the world problems. It is now considering providing citizenship to the "best performing" members of society. I like how they are preserving their ethnicity and how they are preserving their rule. No protests and no social riots. Sure, the entire country feels superficial like an open-air shopping mall. But they have done really, really well given the climate, lack of agriculture, natural resources besides oil. Now it is a central business hub and a financial center. Soon I see a lot of youth trying to make it a tech hub. Leadership really matters. They are doing their best in everything they can and trying to diversify the economy. I just think they can improve in some social nets aspect like protecting human rights, giving citizenship after 20 years, provide some welfare to single parents struggling etc It is up to the youth at this point and I especially notice that the Emirati youth are very highly educated and aware of problems. I wish them good luck in preserving and improving their country

this is a pure PR piece. I wonder how much they paid for this piece. search here the 78 planes of Emirates not even flying, empty planes and 2/3 of all the staff being made redundant. Also, save miles on Emirates and then try to book an award ticket, the cost of the charges which no other airline has is almost equal to a normal ticket. Moreover, have you ever seen food at Turkish or service quality at Swiss. If not, then yes they are good in your own universe.

Yes Spirit will always compete on price and thus gain on volume of passengers flying with the airline. However, if you look at the type of passengers flying with Spirit, they are usually younger or low income families. In other words very price sensitive. Therefore these groups or category are more likely to be affected by the pandemic in terms of loss of income, job losses, then they will not pay for travel, especially leisure travel. Capitalising on price sensitivity is a very fruitful when demand is high, but when demand is very low, as of right now, it can be pretty disastrous, because there isn't the volume of passengers willing or wanting to fly with the airline. Plus Spirit will operate on much lower margins, compared to Delta or American let's say, with more seats on the same aircraft, and therefore they will not be hitting these margins with less passengers, to even cover costs. Thus cuts of staff and routes are in play.
