The Western media always wants to know why the BTS fans are so loyal, so intense. I think you put your finger on it. From the early days they built a relationship with ARMY. They interacted with ARMY not just to promote an album or concert but on a rehular basis just to say hiw they were feeling. When the chat was added, the relationship aspect was reinforced. I only got onto BTS about 15 months ago. I have watched many of the old VLives, and their other social media. After hours of videos, I have grown to not only enjoy their music nut like them as people. I am old so I am not 100% certain but I do think that this relationship is different from Western fan bases.

@Eileencullinan that is a nice saying, however it seems to go deeper with these young men. Their story, the adversities they face, their willingness to show vulnerability, the message & their quality music that they put out is on another level. Their ARMY not only huge but multifaceted, organized, philanthropic & committed to growing the fandom.

The statement I read explained to mw how I got involved so quickly. I have as a fan enjoyed many bands , but this with BTS is different.. They are my safe zone. As a army I feel like I know them ,even though I do not. They don't show us everything nor should they. The other connect is army.I have only been army for 3 years, so I am still catching up. I have enjoyed my journey and like seeing other people discover their music, dance humanity and how much they love their fans. Love BTS.Forever.🥰🥰🥰

The phrase 'Mountain over Mountain' means that you climb one Mountain and think you'll be done but when you get to the top you see there are still more Mountains to climb. Basically you work hard to achieve something only to find out there is still more work and sometimes even harder work ahead of you.

Oh you have to see the Intro Performance Trailer. Choreo is INTENSE. They also made the video to shade MAMA because when they performed it for the show, they completely butchered all the camera angles and did not catch the highlights well. Which is why to this day, BTS always ensures that their performances are shot with the utmost quality

It was MBC network, not MAMA. MBC hosts the Gayo Dejejeon Music Festival on New Years Eve every year. And they have had a history of sabotaging BTS. There's always been some animosity. And then back in 2019 BTS decided to perform for New Year's Rockin Eve in Times Square to ring in 2020...and basically MBC has banned them (and any group associsted with BigHit [now HYBE]) from their new years festival ever since then 😅

33:22 - Whenever I watch this part with reactors, there's always something that just happened that show how BTS's feelings towards ARMY have never changed. Just yesterday, Jungkook went live for over 4 hours, just to chat with and sing for ARMY, simply because he missed us. The last time I watched this, either The Astronaut just came out or Jin just performed it in Argentina.

I have watched many if your reactions. The statistics on length of the school day, followed by the cram schools, the pressures and the suicide rates is exactly why BTS's lyrics and themes were considered out of the norm. I understand that Korean KPop fans are known forsinging along, chanting etc during the song. The artist encourage it.

18:15 - In K-pop, they have official fanchants, so fans can study them and chant in performances. If no official ones are published, then fans would create the fanchants themselves and spread them in the fandom. The US general public witnessed this for the first time when BTS had their US television debut as they performed "DNA" at the American Music Awards. The US ARMYs were there and delivered. There are fancam videos that captured the loud fanchants for that performance.

The closest I could decipher for myself is that idols are what we consider mickey mouse club kiddie singers. U aren’t a real artist bc you’re just there bc u fit the look of todays theme. So we teach u to sorta sing and sorta dance and your life cycle is expected to be 3-5 years. Then we get a new crop of kids for the new concept and themes. So the concept of an idol from the get go is not an artist but a puppet we can mold to sing and dance to sell this concept. That’s why the company write and produces all the music and has total control of everything. In large part BTS broke that mold. This is very generalized and my own understanding of “idol”

When BTS write songs, they always have to take into consideration the performance. A lot of that is choreography and line distribution, as well as what works on stage in general. Also, there's the "call and response" you mentioned. In this case, they're officially called "fanchants", which are official chants posted by BigHit to BTS' Weverse (before Weverse, it was a website called "fancafe"). These chants are posted legit within hours of a song dropping, and Korean fans especially will learn them within hours and be ready to chant them from memory the same day the song drops. Like, when BTS used to promote the typical way in Korea back in the day (they haven't really done so since COVID), their album would drop and the same night, they'd be at a TV station filming a comeback show with fans who would already have the chants memorized because they memorized them in line waiting to get into the TV station. Typically, only title tracks and the b-sides that would also be promoted at music shows/award shows would have official fanchants. but Korean fans also are just so used to chanting in general that they also cultivated unofficial chants for other songs from BTS' roster. Overseas fans know all of these chants, too! On your own time, you can check out American fans in LA doing fanchants at the 2017 AMA's with "DNA" here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/fGGtt6uAfreznpM.html BTS incorporate a LOT of call and response into their songs. It works very well for a group setting - during a verse, one member may be rapping or singing, but the other members can join through the call and response even if it's not their part. In actively engages the members at all times, as well as makes it very easy and enticing for the audience to do the same. Genius songwriting, you're right.

Happy birthday to you! Koreans love baseball. In their debut song No more dreams, a baseball is thrown. That’s why I love them! They keep their dignity and then destroy them in their songs! They are greatly influenced by 90’s hip hop and rap. That’s why many reactors say something like “it has the 90’s vibe” when listening to their hip hop or rap songs.

2:07 Suga, RM, JHope and V are the only ones with stage names! Suga for Shooting Guard/Agust D for Suga backwards plus DT for Daegu Town = Min Yoongi , RM for Rap Monster = Kim Namjoon , J-Hope for Jung and Hope because he wants to be our hope :) = Jung Hoseok , V for Victory = Kim Taehyung (their first name is last). - V's the only one in the vocal line with a rap name. It was speculated that he was meant to be a rapper at first, but changed to vocalist later on down the line. You'll notice in their earlier songs, V has very little vocal distribution unlike Jungkook, Jin, and Jimin 2:50 no they do not have police in schools, it's just an exaggeration of how education is forced on the public over their own health and happiness 7:40 In Korean, if the e is before the o then it is silent. If the e is after the o then you pronounce it 16:58 you are exactly correct. When a sentence ends with a verb, they add on 'nmida' to make it polite. It's like robotic talk. Not casual at all. If the sentence ends with a noun, they add on 'ayo' or 'eeayo' 24:50 every fucking time you do not disappoint like I cant breeeeeeeeeeeeatheeee lmfaoooo xDDD 26:39 YES!!!!!! It's what makes me so fucking mad like these are a bunch of KOREANS trying to tell RM and Suga what Hip Hop is... like sir.. DO YOU EVEN KNOW???? NO. You do not. I don't get how people who join the Hip Hop culture from the outside try to dictate what it SHOULD be. 41:10 IM SO GLAD IM NOT THE ONLY ONE LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOO Everytime I see that shit I be like "DAMN SON" lmao Mannnnn 2013 was a year for them. 2014 aint gonna get any better tbh. I think 2014-2015 were the toughest years for BTS never knowing when they would run out steam, all the backlash and hate, whilst constantly winning awards and being called frauds. Man. My respect for Korean ARMYs is through the roof bc they had to pull the boys out of so much shit until they finally started to get international fans. They won best new artist award at every Korean award show in 2013 and everytime the first thing out of their mouths was "ARMY" its crazy. Why aren't American celebs like this xD

합니다 (Hapnida/Hamnida) is the verb "to do" conjugated in the present and in polite speech. Basically most Korean phrases end in a verb. In english you have the Subject - verb - object "I like apples" order, in Korean it's "Subject - object - verb". And a looot of verbs end with 하다 (hada). It's a little bit big of an explanation to give as to why if you have no prior knowledge of the language, but just know that a lot of verbs end like that (with Ha•da conjugated -> Hamnida ), and if there's a "mnida" it's because they're talking in present polite speech. Like 좋아합니다 - Joahamnida (I like it) 좋아해요 (Joahaeyo) is also "I like it" conjugated in the present, but slightly less formal than Joahamnida. 좋아해 (Joahae) is informal. 축하합니다 - Tchukahamnida (Congratulations) 봅니다 - Bomnida (I see it) 가르칩니다 - Gareutchimnida (I teach it).

  • @TheIdgas

Thank you, this was very interesting! Can I ask though, how does “to do” change to “congratulations”? Is it that the literal translation of congratulations involves ‘to do’, or is it more like ‘ding’ has its own meaning and ‘standing’ means something completely different, if that makes sense?!?

  • @marirezende8478

    @marirezende8478

    Жыл бұрын

@@TheIdgas So, this enters that space of the explanation I said is a little bit more complicated hahahahah it could be better translated as "To congratulate/To celebrate". 축하 means congratulation/s, celebration/s, felicitation/s, as a noun. But you can't say it as a noun, because you're wishing/doing (?) it to someone/someone's birthday, it becomes an action, so it has to be transformed into an action verb, and to do that you have to add the verb "to do" to it. So the literal translation would be kind of "For your birthday, congratulations", but the phrase means "Happy birthday". 축하하다 means "To congratulate/to celebrate", so if you conjugate it in the present it means "Congratulation/Congratulations"! Better examples: They also use adjectives as verbs, called descriptive verbs . Like if you want to say you're happy you would say 행복합니다 (Haengbokhamnida - I'm happy), but 행복하다 (Haengbokhada) means "To be happy" and it's a verb. 행복 means happiness, 하다 means to do, so the unification of both means literally "To do happiness" -> "To be happy". You also add the action verb to nouns to transform them into verbs, like what happened to 축하합니다. Another example is "work", the noun "work" in Korean is 일, but if you want to say that you work, or someone else works (the verb) then you add the action verb! And suddenly work becomes "to work" 일하다. But not all verbs are like these! There are other forms of action and descriptive verbs, I'm only telling you about the ones that use 하다.

I would a 100% agree. I myself find I have trouble sometimes with the level of openness and connection developed from engaging with Army. Having the understanding that connecting and being open is paramount and key to the success these boys have had. It’s a weird dance I find myself having where on one hand if I lean in it could pay off but to be that open is so scary and outside my traditional thinking or how I was educated on cultivation of a core audience or group. But that is why I’ve been really trying to understand what BTS has done. Army has been great in helping with this teaching. 💜

Here JK gives a statement and Jin has to respond with "of course" or he looses the game. After that Jin can give a statement and JK has to respond. This continues until one isn*t able to respond with "of course" anymore. So one time J-Hope said "You enjoyed it" to V referencing this 21:34 situation. Let's go! There are some vowels in Korean that are romanized with more than 1 letter, but they actually only make one sound as they're ONE character in hangul: ㅛ - yo ㅕ- yeo ㅑ- ya ㅠ - yu ㅐ- ae ㅓ- eo ㅡ - eu The ones that have a Y sound before are easier to understand how to pronounce. Ae and eo aren't read as ei-ee or ee-o, they are read "e" (like the sound the "a" in "say" makes, an A without the ee sound at the end) and "o" (like the "o" sound in "kn•o•ck"). So, BangTan Sonyeodan in Korean is 방탄 소년단 The "So" (소) has a So sound like the word "Sofa", and the "Nyeon" (년) is, as explained, the same sound I told you, but with an Y before and an N after (because the vowel being used is the ㅕ "yeo" vowel not the ㅓ"eo" vowel, which are basically the same, but ㅕ "Yeo" has the y sound alongside the eo sound). Hope I was clear! The sounds for me are the hardest to explain without being able to just say them. (There are more, but it would become complicated to explain, because my keyboard doesn't allow me to type them without a consonant as well, and it would only confuse you, so I'm using only these ones as examples).

For sure, I’m sure if your parents have enough money and high status or something you could probably get into good schools in Korea without doing amazing on the test but if u are just a regular rich kid and your parents have a good amount of money, they more so spend a lot of money on really good tutors and private schools to make sure their kids pass this test with high marks. That test is so important in Korea that flights and business close because of it and police cars patrol the area just in case a student might be running late so they can give them a ride. The test only happens once a year at the exact same time for all the seniors, which is why it is important not to miss it, as you would have to wait till the next year to take it again.

1:40 RM probably just got contacts. Over the years we have seen him in casual glasses a few times and his lenses were THICK. So we assumed he is practically blind. BUT a few days ago he posted his eye exam results and wow his prescription is WAY higher than any of us assumed. So yeah he still uses contacts otherwise he wouldn't survive hahaha 2:50 in Slovenia some high schools have a security guard. But that are mostly high schools that have a reputation for fights, skipping classes, being drunk,... my high school didn't have one, they only had 2 students who changed every day (it went by classes and alphabeth) who acted as people to help guests who were lost. Mostly you just sat being on your phone all day excused from your classes (except if you had an exam then you had to find yourself a replacment for that hour). But my country also has never had a violent event happen at a school... 11:40 from I have talked with other European friends we all have a few graduation exams and those exams determine if we graduate (you can have straight As all years of high school but if you dont pass the final 3 or 5 exams you can't graduate. We literally spend all 4 years studying for these exams). And no amount of money can get you into a University if you don't have enough good grades from these exams and the correct high school. I went to a high school where after I graduated I can go straight to work as a kindergarden assistant and with good enough exam results I can go to University for a kindergarden teacher (and a few months ago, 6 YEARS after I graduated from high school I got rejected from job because my high school score was 0,2 lower than another persons). But I can't attend the program for a regular teacher (same University) simply because i haven't done an additional subject exam on top of mine. Oh and the exam scores you get at 14 determine if you get accepted into high school. A LOT of people got rejected from my high school, if you got Bs you wouldnt get accepted into my high school no matter how much money you got because these results are public. (And High school and University are FREE, so money truly doesn't play a part). My University classes were literally from 8am to 8pm.. the time from 4pm to 8pm dragged soooo hard especially since they were usually the same class. And yes there was attendace check even in University and if you didn't have enough attendace you werent allowed to take the final exam. 34:34 i think the big part of why no one does this and why it really works for BTS is sincerity. There is not really any money to be earned at this type of events. And when it comes to letters I find it hard to imagine any western artist being so sincere when it comes to writing a public letter to the fans. BTS over the years have posted a lot of letters on ARMY forums that were active at the time (first fancafe, then twitter and now Wewerse). And all these letters feel sincere, there is never any doubt they were written by the members themselfs. And ARMYs always translate them and take them to heart. And here is also the thing, when BTS are honest and vulnerble with their struggles ARMYs always relate and are understanding and supportive. But when it comes to western artists, their fans are usually just casual listeners who don't have an emotional connection to them as people, they simply like their music and probably aren't even that emotionally connected to the lyrics of that music. So honestly if that artist posted a sincere letter about their struggles to the public, I don't think it would be recived well. They would be told it is a publicity stunt, that they are popular so their struggles don't count since they have financial stability. Basically the public would probably mock them. Sure it would touch some of their hardcore fans; but I don't see the general reaction being positive. As you see BTS have been doing that since the beginning so when a member posts a personal letter nowdays it is of course taken seriously and if on the off chance public catches wind of it and cares, the ARMY is strong enough to be way louder and call out people who step out of line. 39:00 for me I just sang along to this song Rise of Bangtan and that made it soooo much easier for me to correctly pronouce their group name. Same as with the members real names. I simply listened and learned the fanchant (the leader, and then from eldest to youngest) and that was the easiest and fastest way for me to learn how to pronounce their names and also learn their age order. And in the first few days whenever I was confused I simply repeated the fanchant to get the correct pronounciation.

To give some context from 25:16 What Kim Bonghyun said isnt entirely wrong (I will come to which part about it is sickening). The Korean public to date does not treat idols as artists or have a individual personality. An example is the comments under RM's psick univ show. After bts became such a global group and came to be seen in the TV, the public concluded that ok. He is a good speaker, they all have decent personalities, all look decently good, are hardworking performers so they have become the most recognised idol. The words of practical, relatable, 30's man thinking style and charisma is not what general public who only know bts through news expects. So the comments by the middle aged men are hilarious cause they say they had respect for bts for their national contribution but had prejudice towards idols so they didn't expect him to have such a personality and fell for his charisma. So what that guy pointed out was the reality. The problem comes in seeing these artificial norms over looks as the root of hiphop. In rm's track 'Do You', he thoroughly argues in his verses and mocks the obsession with looks to further highlight how your fashion isn't a symbol of how profound of a hip hop artist you are. In short bts didn't fall for what folks around them expected out of them. Neither for the perfect idol nor for the macho hiphop oldie. They experienced and discovered the true essence of hiphop via their own experiences. And that's what made them have a such a strong artistic root to date.

In Korean all sentences end with the verb and there are different endings/conjugations depending of the level of politeness, majorly dependent on age and status. In songwriting you rarely hear it because it is mainly written in 반말 informal speech. 합니다/습니다 - habnida/subnida are honorific forms 요- yo ending is the polite form (this is most similar to -desu) When they cut the conjugations at the end it is informal most commonly ending on 다 - da.

This is slightly off topic, but because you are starting to see more of the blooming relationship between BTS and ARMY, I just wanted to share with you one of my favorite lines from them. "You gave me the best of me, so you'll give you the best of you." It's from their song Magic Shop, which is one of many songs written specifically for ARMY. BTS want us to give that same positive energy and encouragement that we show to them to ourselves. It's one of the many reasons I love and support them wholeheartedly. I don't get that same encouragement from others in my life, but I'll be damn sure to give it to my children, and work to show it to myself. BTS showed me that I can care about my own happiness, and it took nearly 40 years for me to receive that message.

I'll be editing this probably to answer questions. The cops are to show how oppressive the Korean education system is. At 5:06 if you look up in the left hand corner, it shows the days passing. It was longer than 5 days, it was every day for months! Those boys work hard! They got little sleep so they could practice & perfect it to calm their nerves, but they felt each comeback had to be better than their previous ones. Yeah after debut it doesn't matter how much time has passed it's called a comeback. It's not usually 2 weeks, but they do have them after 3 months or more 💜 eta: the yeon rhymes with John sort of 🙂 In Korean, a common pattern for verb formation is adding “hada” (dictionary form) to a noun. Used by itself it normally is translated as “do”. Korean has various levels of formality and politeness which are indicated by verb endings. The endings on “hada” are the same whether it is used as an independent word or in word formation. The most formal and polite ending normally used in modern Korean is “-mnida”. This is added to the verb stem which can be derived from the dictionary form by removing the “da”. In this case of “hada” the stem is “ha” so the word is “hamnida”. For example, one way to say “thank you” is “kamsahamnida” which is a verb. The noun “kamsa” means “thanks”. So the verb could literally be translated as “(I) respectfully do thanks” although we typically translate it as the much more natural “thank you" btw, I borrowed that from the internet to explain it better, I'm learning hangul, but trying to explain it was a bit hard for me RN. Hope it helped. Haha I agree, the pink juice looks yum! Yes, all of their songs have the call and response, they call them fanchants . BTS release official fan chants so yes they are written in. But even when they haven't released it yet ARMYs usually know what to say because it's written in. Then also during some parts of songs, or before the guys begin singing, ARMYs will go in order starting with rm (leader) and goes oldest to youngest. So in BTS it's Kim Namjoon Kim Seokjin Min Yoongi Jung Hoseok Park Jimin Kim Taehyung Jeon Jungkook BTS! Asking about the underground hip hop being stuck, it's because typically, at least prior to BTS (it's more common now) idols didn't usually write their own music. Forget producing, they don't usually write their own lyrics. So these dickheads were referring to that, how can an idol be considered hip-hop if they don't write their own music. BTS are ofc different. They write, compose, and produce their own music, so they didn't fall into a neat little box like these guys were trying to put them in. eta: I love that you mentioned Kurtis Blow! I never thought to use him as an example! 💜 As for the b and p sound, that really messed me up for awhile before I caught on. When I lived in Korea, it was a tiny town riiiight by the dmz. I always thought it was pong il chong, and I could never find it once I was back in America when I looked it up. It's romanization spelling is bongil cheon. It's a small difference you'd think it'd show up in searches if I spelled it the 1st way, but nope. You gotta romanize that one at least, correctly. Possibly that's also due to it being literally just a few hundred people & it was 1994? More if you count the US military base there . Also to say "hurry" is ppali but always sounded more like Bali to my uneducated ear at the time. And I think to pronounce it correctly it is a mixed sound of the b and p, similar to the k and g sounds

The group name is pronounced Bang (방) Tan (탄) So (소) Nyeon (년) Dan (단). Romanization of Hangeul isn't really all that standardized, but if you see "eo," it's usually the vowel ㅓ which is pronounced "uh." "Yeo" (ㅕ) is also a vowel in Korean, so "nyeon" is actually "n+yeo+n," and would be pronounced like "nun" with a "y" sound thrown in there lol. You can see that "eo"/uh sound in Jin and Hobi's government names-Seojkin and Hoseok-which are pronounced "Sukk-jin" and "Ho-sukk." An example of how Hangeul romanticization isn't standardized can actually be seen in Jungkook's (정국) name, which is usually Romanized "Jungkook," but in the system most commonly used in Korea now, it would actually be Jeongguk. Korean immigrants to America of my mother's generation sort of took liberties with the romanticization, which is why there's a lot of confusion. But here are some vowel diphthongs used in modern spelling that might confuse you: ㅓ = eo = "uh" ㅕ = yeo = "yuh" ㅡ = eu = "oo" as in "book" ㅚ = oe = "weh" ㅢ = ui = this can vary, honestly, depending on the word, but let's just say "eh" for now ㅒ = ae = "ay" (this vowel is used in Ddaeng, by the way, and it really is almost like you're saying "dang" with a little oomph to it) ㅒ = yae = "yay" There are also double consonants GG, DD, BB, SS, and JJ, which you'll only see at the beginning of a syllable. Essentially they sound like K, T, P, S, and Ch. Sort of. (It's a bit more complex than that haha.)

The eo sound in Korean (어) is pronounced kind of a cross between an O sound and a U sound. Kind of like Uhhh. When I first started learning Korean I had a hard time differentiating between eo 어 and O 오. Sometimes when they anglicize the Korean word they spell it as a u as in the Jung in Jungkook. 정국, instead of an eo as in Seokjin, 석진 although it makes the same sound in both cases. Hope that is helpful.

Oh wow I was just wondering when you might upload the next episode of TROB and here it is! Crowd participation is such a vital part in BTS songs. The fanchants are baked into the music so even when I listen to songs on Spotify I'll sometimes wait for the chant parts and sing that. It's a good time. I can't wait to go watch their concert in the cinema this weekend so I can do the fanchants with other ARMYs. We've never had BTS come here before so it's probably going to be the closest I'll get to a concert with them for a while. There are some songs that ARMY really go in on the fanchants. My fave is probably Fake Love but Attack On Bangtan always gets me hyped. But they would comeback THAT quickly.. because you have to prepare a lot for said comeback?? 🤷🏽‍♀️

What’s up with the audio in this one? Were you having copyright issues? Maybe I just watched the others on the Patreon. ****** 3:52 I think they call it a comeback because most K-pop groups are disposable/interchangeable. They come and go quickly, so still being around is a big deal. 14:20 The call and response songwriting: This is common in K-Pop. Besides audience participation, this music is also written for an international audience. Korea is a very small market. The country is the size of the state of Indiana. So they put in easy English lyrics or nonsense lyrics (na-na-na, oh-oh, etc) to make the music more accessible and enjoyable for the widest audience to be able to sing along, since English is the widest global language (thanks to colonialism.) Those segments also lend themselves well to call and response. 17:00 I am starting to study Korean language and I pulled this from Quora ~ In Korean, a common pattern for verb formation is adding “hada” (dictionary form) to a noun. So the verb could literally be translated as “(I) respectfully do thanks” although we typically translate it as the much more natural “thank you”. Another example “saranghamnida” is formed from the noun “sarang” meaning love and verb-forming “hada” and formal polite ending “mnida”. This is a formal polite way to say the verb “love”, although we could think of it as “do love”. Because this pattern of verb formation is so common, when people are in formal polite contexts we frequently hear the syllables “hamnida” throughout their speech. ~ Also ㅂ is pronounced somewhere between P/B in Korean so can be written in romanized characters either as P or B as it varies in pronunciation by word or dialect but is usually somewhere in the middle. Same thing with R/L (ㄹ), and G/K (ㄱ), D/T (ㄷ) and Ch/T (ㅊ) etc. It’s a phonetic written alphabet like English, but the sounds are not exactly like English and that’s why some are hard for us to approximate and the same for them with English. Our brains and mouths are just not trained for those sounds. It takes practice and a good ear. Each letter combines into a multi character block to form a syllable = 방 (Bang) 탄 (Tan) 소 (So) 년 (Neoyn) 단 (Dan) Or = 방탄 소년단 Bangtan Sonyeondan / BTS 26:00 “Is the underground hip-hip scene in a South Korea stuck in 1993?” In some ways, yes. Remember they only really started with their modern Western influenced music scene in the 80s and 90s. The sound is evolving fast, and in its own way according to the culture, but it’s still a pretty misogynistic and conservative culture. Not that the US is a bastion of virtue in that regard, but we all have our issues. The culture is also very hierarchical and stratified and this is reflected in the culture of music and musicians, with clearly delineated divisions for certain things like powerful labels and agencies and groups vs poor ones and between K-Pop and a Hip-hop, etc. Also, these are older people talking the guys and the culture dictates you cannot talk back to them as they are their seniors and it was a public press appearance, so they were cognizant of representing their team and their label. They did it anyways, in their music, which in itself was shocking to some. I also just think these dudes are salty because when RM and Suga were 14, grown ass men were afraid to rap battle them in the underground scene because they were getting their asses handed to them by these little kids and it was embarrassing. This was an opportunity to slam them and they took it. Here again, BTS is an anomaly. They have always openly spoken truth to power with their art, criticized their elders, been openly supportive of the LGBTQ+ community, supported queer artists and fashion designers in Korea and elsewhere, have stated they don’t believe things like fashion and makeup have gender, and they designed their BT21 characters to be gender neutral. They are just ahead of their time and culture in so many ways, even when they were teenagers. The letters they wrote to their fans towards the end were something they wanted to do, not something the company had them do. Their fans sent them many letters with these kinds of personal feelings, stories and struggles and they wanted to give them back the same thing. They just wanted to share themselves and their feelings with ARMY in person. They were teenagers (mostly) and felt (and still feel) that ARMY is their best friends (and have put that in song lyrics as well as said it many times.) Other groups did not do social media like them, were in fact not allowed to by their companies, were not in direct contact with their fans, didn’t share all the back stage and behind the scenes and all the hard stuff and struggles. That was all these guys, who made all their own videos and loaded them up themselves and shared their unfiltered selves with their fans. It was not a thing done in K-Pop. There was an accepted script for how groups came about and how fanbases were built and how media was engaged and how their image was crafted and it was not this. Of course, now they are trying to figure out a manufactured version of how to copy these things as some sort of formula for success, with not much luck because it’s not very genuine.

For rob or ahl yt copyright is very strict to my channel so I can trim or mute or have the video content blocked. So I mute where I can to get the video through copyright. If I could not do this I would but yt is not having with me.

Korea is definitely stuck in a VERY cliche vision of Hip-Hop, with all the cultural appropriation that goes with it and everything so yeah…If anything BTS rapline are the closest to Hip-Hop Korean artist, always educating themselves and knowing their history

This video had large areas where it was muted, and then it got messed up around 29:00 (Timestamp). It was hard to watch. I stopped watching at that point.

10:00, you should take the test(CSAT) even though you are the richest man in our country. Lee Jae-yong was the successor of SAMSUNG company but he had to take the test 3 times to get the score to attend the Seoul National University. The diploma from this university was one of the necessary conditions before inheriting the company. So even you are rich, if you don't have diploma from a good college, you will harshly look down on by ppl in Korea..(I know it's harsh..) Also, I dedicated my whole life preparing this test(CSAT) to go to the university that I want. I took the test twice and I made it but if I couldn't got the pleasing score, I would just.. kill myself at that time. I was very hard on myself bc which university you graduated almost dictates your future careers and human relationships. Thankfully I had BTS music on my side at that time and I was able to endure all of my stress.🥲
