The Rise & Fall of Cool Props' Thomas Line

Ойын-сауық

Cool Props announced their intention to make buyable Thomas replicas in 2018. 5 years later, it released, but the hype isn't what it used to be. This video explains why.

    Bruh this fandom has become so dedicated that we practically made a whole potential range kinda useless

    The seam gaps and inaccurate paint completely ruin the Coolprops items. For that price you should be getting something at least on par with the models fans are creating.

    This was an interesting video. As much as I would love a full set with Thomas, Annie, Clarabel there's no way I'm paying that much for it so it's most likely I'll get just Thomas when I scrounge up more money and hopefully I can get one before this decade ends. The reason why I prefer to get one is because I just don't have that level of talent. I can make great customs but I can't make something to this scale so buying one is my only option. Anyway keep up the good work Tidmouth.

    I think that the price is more substantial of an issue than it seems. Like, $750 for a non-motorized, no eye-mech, no smoke replica just seems really unreasonable (especially considering the inaccuracies you mentioned as well!)

    I have one myself. Personally I do say it was worth the wait but not quite the price. I feel like the price should have been a little lower. That being said, I’m glad I have it anyway. It’s a nice novelty and when you’re not looking at it from six inches away, it looks like the real thing. The seam lines are actually not that noticeable on mine. I suspect it must be a lack of a consistent quality control. It does sit on a shelf in my train room and I love looking at it as Thomas was and still is a huge part of my life

    I thought about getting cool Props Thomas because it looks like the model series from hit and classic eras but after looking at the prince, yikes that would possibly waste my savings account for my payments I would think about making a replica from scratch soon

    The Coolprops set is really flawed and ofc while adding all the mechanics would be more pricey, externally it looks great! I’d love more characters in the range but they’d take ages to get to many of em it seems which is where i see the advantage the fandom has.

    05:03 You have to remove the face and then the eyemech itself if you want to move the eyes. Sadly, you cannot control the eyes remotely. If you could, I might have considerd paying the 750 bucks for it.

    These are cool (no pun intended), but I’m NOT going to promise to get any of these replicas because they’re VERY expensive and hard to get for me. That’s why I’d rather buy something cheaper like an old Trackmaster model or a Bachmann model.

    To me, even though I never own CoolProps' Thomas line (though it would be cool if I did), I do think it'll be a new idea to display them with collectibles. That, and I wish that there are other companies would do something similar so that little kids would enjoy playing with, similar to other model train companies like Bachmann and Hornby.

  • @DALEKSLAYER1
    @DALEKSLAYER128 күн бұрын

    Still sort of on the subject, it's the same with Daleks, there's a company that makes official replicas of Daleks, but they come at a high price, and aren't great quality. This is where, like the Thomas G1 fanbase, fans (like me) build ones ourselves which are better than the licenced replicas

  • @lillywho
    @lillywho22 күн бұрын

    Personally I'm either printing a gauge 1 replica off Thingiverse or getting the Bachmann G gauge one. Even if I had the money this one would seem wasteful.

  • @Shipwright1918

    Admittedly, I think the Coolprops replicas are interesting, but the biggest "no" for me about them is they're static. For that kinda money, I'd at least like to be able to run it and pull trains. What I'd really like is one of the Scottish twins, as they were always my favorites. Again, would rather have a runner to go on my garden railway than a perfect prop replica.

    As much as I would want to buy a cool props Thomas. $750 is too much for me. And it would be too much of a pain to keep one in decent condition because of having to brush dust off and risk of scratches and getting damaged.

  • @AliluluMillion

    Personally I wouldn't know where to begin trying to find someone to commission for a replica, and I am not buying a bulky ass 3D printer that I'd only use like once. Plus I am not good with paint so I see myself going "fuck i wish i just paid $750" while looking at my horrendous paintwork. If anybody sees this and knows any reputable modelers that are open for commissions lemme know, but until I find one I'm set on eventually just getting a Cool Props Thomas, but now that I know Annie and Clarabel can't move I won't get the trio. Also I don't think them adding mechanics inside would be a good idea considering they could get damaged during shipping and people would blame Cool Props and not the shipping company knowing this fandom.
