Griezmann was one of the very best players in the world during his first stint with Athletico, I was surprised how quickly people seemed to forget the level that he’s played at for the majority of his career. Dude is a certified baller.

@@leifsemp no it was Because the French Midfield was bad with griezman and Rabiot. The game only became good when Camavinga and kolo munai was subbed in. Deshamps made a mistake by putting Rabiot, Demble and Griezman in starting 11 and he corrected it in 2ND half. Last time Pogba and Kante controlled the midfield. Giroud and Dembele got record for earliest substitution

As a french, I can assure you that Griezmann is one of the most respected people in France. I think Antoine is much more respected than Mbappe, for example.

Antoine Griezmann's first stint at Atletico Madrid was the best period of his career. He carried the team on his shoulders for many seasons bagging 100+ goals in 5 seasons there, helped them get to the champions league final finished 3rd in Ballon Dor voting on 2 occasions, was in Ballon Dor contention, during this same period he was excelling for France, he was the top scorer in EURO 2016, player of the tournament there even if they narrowly lost the final, in 2018 he helped France win their first World Cup since 1998 being a pivotal player in that tournament, he was also shining on the international stage. However at club level, Antoine Griezmann felt like he was too big for Atletico Madrid and his exit wasn't taken very well by fans as he wanted a move to Barcelona. Barcelona in the end paid 120 million for his services and the expectation for him was to be a "Neymar replacement" and he would quickly gel along with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez. The Barcelona transfer for Antoine Griezmann wasn't a good move for the club nor the player as he looked out of his depth in the team. His best position as a player is a CF and a number 10, he played the best football of his career during his first stint with Atletico Madrid as a CF, and was at his best for the France national team as a number 10. At Barcelona, Lionel Messi played that role drifting from the right to the middle, while Luis Suarez was Barcelona's number 9, that meant that Antoine Griezmann had to operate on the left wing position where he wasn't comfortable and he failed to make an impact there. He didn't like being used out of position and as a result, managers couldn't find his best position he was often benched and even when he started, he was a shadow of his former self. He had a nightmare period at Barcelona and he should've never joined their club and he departed in 2021 returning to Atletico Madrid on loan, they had to offload him due to financial restrictions and Barcelona signing him made zero sense from a footballing perspective because you signed a player who wasn't the right fit for the system and the result of that is we didn't see a consistent version of Antoine Griezmann.

Antoine Griezmann did well in his second season but throughout his Barcelona tenure he didn’t fit in I don’t think he was himself there and at the time the Barcelona move never made sense for him when they weren’t gonna play him in his usual position but at times he was good but with the money they paid for him he didn’t live up to what was expected of him and not his fault when he was playing in a dysfunctional Barcelona team although making the move at the time when he was in his prime made no sense.

What Griezmann has done during this 2023 cannot be quantified with numbers. Everyone of you should watch a random Atletico match today. Every ball he touches, he does something good. It can be a goal, an assist, a tackle that saves a goal, a dribbling, he starts every attack, he helps in defence... whatever. Now he's the total player.

What the stats doesn't show is the hard work Griezmann is also doing in midfield and even sometime in defence. It was obvious during few match in last world cup. For instance against England or Marocco when France was having hard time. He was everywhere on the pitch. He is not the most physical or the fastest but he is technical, clever, unselfish. He provide more than just high goal and assist count to his team that might be why he is so underated.

Griezmann was born to play at Atletico Madrid

His time at barca wasn't that bad either...most Barca fans love him ....his work of the ball is amazing

Saying griezmann had a "fall" is a bit of a stretch. And also his barca stint was considered underwhelming only because of his price tag. You my friend are trying to milk the narrative a bit too much.

His return to Atletico Madrid wasn't always smooth sailing for Antoine Griezmann. In the 2021/22 season, he was disrupted by injury and he continued to struggle for form when fit, and it looked like he was finished. The start of the season was very complicated for him. Antoine Griezmann had a ridiculous clause in his contract that states that if he played more than 45 minutes in more than half of the games he's available to play in his second season on loan, Atletico Madrid had to pay 40 million transfer fee for Barcelona to sign him permanently. In the beginning of the season, Diego Simeone was always bringing him on the pitch after 60 minutes and Barcelona weren't happy about this and at the end of the day, they agreed to reduce the fee, and Barca got him off their books for good. Antoine Griezmann looked back to his very best last season registering 15 goals and 16 assists in La Liga last season featured in all of their league games, and after their slow start to the season, he helped Atletico Madrid secure 3rd place another season in the champions league for them. For France at the World Cup, he helped them get to back-back World Cup finals playing the number 10 and 8 role very well excelling in both attack and defense and was one of the best players in the tournament. He's a tremendous player, his game isn't just about goals, he does the dirty work, plays well defensively, great playmaker plays great passing, excellent at driving with the ball from defense to attack, does it at the highest level and you see the value he brings to a team by constantly watching him. Has goals in him, 3rd top scorer of all time for Atletico Madrid and France. He's one of the most underrated players of our generation, but still anyone who follows football should have absolute respect for Antoine Griezmann due to the success he's had in his career and how he's complete in both the offensive and defensive aspects of his game and he's a player that managers want in their team nowadays in modern day football. Antoine Griezmann reigniting his career for club and country is a great example of how it's too early to write off players and the impatience football fans have. After a disappointing stint with Barcelona, many believed he was finished, Antoine Griezmann bounced back in the best way possible after his return to Atletico Madrid and yet I don't hear enough people talking about his return to form and he has shown that he isn't finished at this level and a move to Atletico Madrid was what he needed in order to rediscover his best form.

He didn't do bad, he did well but to me it just felt like Antoine Griezmann wasn't clicking at Barcelona, the stats weren't bad, despite that I just don't think that he was himself during his time at Barcelona, the move there never made sense as he proved to be an awful fit for them.

He wasn’t even a flop at Barca. First season kinda ya but we played him on the wing which isn’t his position and he still did his job he didn’t fail us we failed him. We could have adapted our formation to suit him better but didn’t care too
