I know you're joking, but Carus was actually killed by the Persians. Roman propaganda was silly enough to blame his death on a lightening strike in order to cover up the humiliation, kind of like how they tried to cover up the killing of Gordian III by the Persians and the capture of Valerian in battle rather than during negotiations.

Well, I disagree that the Sassanids destroyed themselves moreso than that basic human greed and distrust from the people did. The govt. of the Sassnid Empire have actually been much more stable and competent than any other nations of their time. You can't control monetary losses due to people drifting away from their policies, or lunatic mass-murderers from carrying out their violent whims. I still believe Persian Empires still do things best, despite their inevitable fall. And firstly that comes from investing more in consolidating your culture and customs and forms of thinkings (Iranians) than investing in violence or violent control of people (Greeks, Arabs, Mongols, etc.) This is why after 2550 years, Iranians are still Iranian, practing an Iranian thought process, and practicing Iranian culture, on Iranian soil. The same cannot be said for its past enemies.

Ancient Hoplite Parsa means noble in Persian. It's a different word than Pars (Tho might share the same origin becuz they sound really similar) which means Persis or you could say Persia( I don't think there is any equivalent for Persia in the Persian language since such terms were never used.)

Wow thank you so much for this Epimetheus! I picked an interest for the Sassanid empire as a result of me being also fascinated with the Eastern Roman empire and so I appreciate this video about the Sassanids. They’re definitely a civilisation worth knowing about for me.

Islam was the original Religion descended to earth from heaven with Adam and Eve (peace and blessing be upon them) in the beginning of humanity. and was passed to people with the succession of the 124 000 prophets and 315 messengers of God to all nations and civilizations since, passing by Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Ismaël, Joseph, Moses, Aaron, Joshua, David, Solomon and Jesus (Peace and blessing be upon them) during the history of mankind, the last replaces and completes the previous, until the succession of the last messenger of God fourteen centuries ago, Muhammad (Peace and blessing be upon him) to complete the noble morals of all mankind, to bring humans and jinns out of darkness into light, and to purify people's religion and belief from corruption and polytheism, and return it to purity and true monotheism, like it was in the times of the prophets (Peace and blessing be upon them). Many Religions that we know nowadays, at their beginning were true and under Islam, initiated by one of the prophets of God, but their original teachings, history and scriptures have been corrupted over time with falsification and polytheism, or lost and replaced with false ones. That's why Islam is the only Religion accepted by God nowadays, which consists in bearing witness that there is no god besides Allah (God in Aramaic, the original language of Jesus and the Gospel), and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger, just like Jesus and Moses and others are His servants and messengers. Never a messenger of God said he was God or literally son of God, it was the people after him who changed the words of God and corrupted the Religion. God is unique and absolute, He does not need to have a family and sons or to associate anyone else with His kingdom, He can simply create whatever He wants, everything belongs to Him, and to Him everything will return. Allah said in Surah Al-Mu’minun : “God has never begotten a son, nor is there any god besides Him. Otherwise, each god would have taken away what it has created, and some of them would have gained supremacy over others. Glory be to God, far beyond what they describe. The Knower of the hidden and the manifest. He is exalted, far above what they associate. (91-92 / Translated by ITANI). Allah means the one and only God, the God of all prophets and creatures, the creator of the universe and mankind, and the Master of the Day of judgment, where our destiny, Hell or Paradise, is decided based on our faith and deeds in this trial life, and above all, Allah's mercy. Allah said in Surah Al-Ikhlas : In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful. Say, “He is God, the One. God, the Absolute. He begets not, nor was He begotten. And there is none comparable to Him.” (1-4 / Translated by ITANI). Allah said in Surah An-Nisa : O FOLLOWERS of the Gospel! Do not overstep the bounds [of truth] in your religious beliefs, and do not say of God anything but the truth. The Christ Jesus, son of Mary, was but God's Apostle - [the fulfilment of] His promise which He had conveyed unto Mary - and a soul created by Him. Believe, then, in God and His apostles, and do not say, "[God is] a trinity". Desist [from this assertion] for your own good. God is but One God; utterly remote is He, in His glory, from having a son: unto Him belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is on earth; and none is as worthy of trust as God. Never did the Christ feel too proud to be God's servant, nor do the angels who are near unto Him. And those who feel too proud to serve Him and glory in their arrogance [should know that on Judgment Day] He will gather them all unto Himself: (171-172 / Translated by Muhammad Asad). Allah the Most Merciful said in Surah Ali-Imran : Behold, the only [true] religion in the sight of God is [man's] self-surrender unto Him; and those who were vouchsafed revelation aforetime took, out of mutual jealousy, to divergent views [on this point] only after knowledge [thereof] had come unto them. But as for him who denies the truth of God's messages - behold, God is swift in reckoning! Thus, [O Prophet,] if they argue with thee, say, "I have surrendered my whole being unto God, and [so have] all who follow me!" - and ask those who have been vouchsafed revelation aforetime, as well as all unlettered people, "Have you [too] surrendered yourselves unto Him?" And if they surrender themselves unto Him, they are on the right path; but if they turn away - behold, thy duty is no more than to deliver the message: for God sees all that is in [the hearts of] His creatures. Verily, as for those who deny the truth of God's messages, and slay the prophets against all right, and slay people who enjoin equity - announce unto them a grievous chastisement. It is they whose works shall come to nought both in this world and in the life to come; and they shall have none to succour them. (19-22 / Translated by Muhammad Asad).. Salam (Peace) -------

@@sobitasadullah4517 Look at the technological and societal difference between Western Europe (which was Christian) and the Middle-East (which was islamic) during the dawn of the modern era (1800s) and you will see how detrimental that religion was to the progress of the Persians and the rest of the Middle-East. You will also see how Christianity did the exact opposite of islam not only in scripture but also in economic as well as societal results. Turns out that if you have a peaceful religion like Christianity your civilisation becomes much more powerful than any other. It's the will of God.

@@christianriddler5063 your interpretation of history lacks nuance. From the Early Middle Ages to the 1200s, Islam was the centre of culture, knowledge, and wisdom. Scientists sought to understand Allah through his creation, and revolutionized mathematics, geometry, astronomy, medicine, biology, physics, chemistry, engineering, and so on. Christians were fighting amongst themselves, trapped in Europe at war. But then the Black plague came. Then the Mongol horde. Then the Timurids. Tens of millions of people died in the Islamic world, first to disease, then to the world's worst murderers. As a result, the islamic world adopted conservative traditions to cling onto what stability was left. It could have recovered if it wasn't for the Europeans, whose enlightenment ideas were found by rediscovering Greek and Roman culture from conquering Al-Andalus and (for a time in the Crusades) Jerusalem, found two new mostly uninhabited continents with resources that were completely untouched. At that point Christianity outpaced Islam. But then when it comes to ages of Science among Christians, the 1700s Enlightenment and age of revolution only came from essentially abandoning Christianity. The West adopted Secularism and Atheism, and abandoned religion in general.

The Sassanid Empire was as powerful and rich as the Roman Empire. The Sassanid Empire internal politic was baseon the balance of power between the king, the nobility and the priesthood. the Sassanian Empire foreign policy was base on fighting the Roman Empire and the Central Asian nomads. Three Roman Emperors died in war with the Sassanian empire. Epimetheus great video and nice animation.

It was not as rich and powerful as the Roman Empire before the split. It was a match for the Eastern Roman Empire but the Romans always were stronger due to them having a higher population base, high urbanisation, industry and bigger economy.

Islam was the original Religion descended to earth from heaven with Adam and Eve (peace and blessing be upon them) in the beginning of humanity. and was passed to people with the succession of the 124 000 prophets and 315 messengers of God to all nations and civilizations since, passing by Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Ismaël, Joseph, Moses, Aaron, Joshua, David, Solomon and Jesus (Peace and blessing be upon them) during the history of mankind, the last replaces and completes the previous, until the succession of the last messenger of God fourteen centuries ago, Muhammad (Peace and blessing be upon him) to complete the noble morals of all mankind, to bring humans and jinns out of darkness into light, and to purify people's religion and belief from corruption and polytheism, and return it to purity and true monotheism, like it was in the times of the prophets (Peace and blessing be upon them). Many Religions that we know nowadays, at their beginning were true and under Islam, initiated by one of the prophets of God, but their original teachings, history and scriptures have been corrupted over time with falsification and polytheism, or lost and replaced with false ones. That's why Islam is the only Religion accepted by God nowadays, which consists in bearing witness that there is no god besides Allah (God in Aramaic, the original language of Jesus and the Gospel), and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger, just like Jesus and Moses and others are His servants and messengers. Never a messenger of God said he was God or literally son of God, it was the people after him who changed the words of God and corrupted the Religion. God is unique and absolute, He does not need to have a family and sons or to associate anyone else with His kingdom, He can simply create whatever He wants, everything belongs to Him, and to Him everything will return. Allah said in Surah Al-Mu’minun : “God has never begotten a son, nor is there any god besides Him. Otherwise, each god would have taken away what it has created, and some of them would have gained supremacy over others. Glory be to God, far beyond what they describe. The Knower of the hidden and the manifest. He is exalted, far above what they associate. (91-92 / Translated by ITANI). Allah means the one and only God, the God of all prophets and creatures, the creator of the universe and mankind, and the Master of the Day of judgment, where our destiny, Hell or Paradise, is decided based on our faith and deeds in this trial life, and above all, Allah's mercy. Allah said in Surah Al-Ikhlas : In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful. Say, “He is God, the One. God, the Absolute. He begets not, nor was He begotten. And there is none comparable to Him.” (1-4 / Translated by ITANI). Allah said in Surah An-Nisa : O FOLLOWERS of the Gospel! Do not overstep the bounds [of truth] in your religious beliefs, and do not say of God anything but the truth. The Christ Jesus, son of Mary, was but God's Apostle - [the fulfilment of] His promise which He had conveyed unto Mary - and a soul created by Him. Believe, then, in God and His apostles, and do not say, "[God is] a trinity". Desist [from this assertion] for your own good. God is but One God; utterly remote is He, in His glory, from having a son: unto Him belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is on earth; and none is as worthy of trust as God. Never did the Christ feel too proud to be God's servant, nor do the angels who are near unto Him. And those who feel too proud to serve Him and glory in their arrogance [should know that on Judgment Day] He will gather them all unto Himself: (171-172 / Translated by Muhammad Asad). Allah the Most Merciful said in Surah Ali-Imran : Behold, the only [true] religion in the sight of God is [man's] self-surrender unto Him; and those who were vouchsafed revelation aforetime took, out of mutual jealousy, to divergent views [on this point] only after knowledge [thereof] had come unto them. But as for him who denies the truth of God's messages - behold, God is swift in reckoning! Thus, [O Prophet,] if they argue with thee, say, "I have surrendered my whole being unto God, and [so have] all who follow me!" - and ask those who have been vouchsafed revelation aforetime, as well as all unlettered people, "Have you [too] surrendered yourselves unto Him?" And if they surrender themselves unto Him, they are on the right path; but if they turn away - behold, thy duty is no more than to deliver the message: for God sees all that is in [the hearts of] His creatures. Great idea to anchor your vids around the map! But _SO_ much history coming at the viewer. You have no idea how hard it is to keep up. (You can only pause/rewind so many times before it gets tedious.) Suggestions: *1: Keep the date (or date range of events/wars) on screen at all times. 2: Beside each ruler/general's face on screen, put a symbol/flag/abbreviation* to signify their nation or empire. The viewer does not retain these facts when you only flash them when you introduce them. However: great video! Keep 'em coming. :^)

I literally watched it in one breath! AMAZING video! Small note; you should have included a little bit more the last 30 years of the Sasanian house and the campains (and debacle) of the last ill-fated Sasanian king, Yezdigird the 3rd. Also, it is said in History books that the move of the Capital city from Istaxr to Qtesiphon by Šahpur was a “daring move to keep the Roman Empire in check”. A VERY daring move indeed, how many similar examples exist in History?? In general; congrats, an AMAZING video on one of the most amazing Empires of History, or how “Iran was reborn from the Ashes of the destroyed Achamenid Iran after Alexander of Macedon. This will probably the first channel on KZread i’ll patreon, great job!

Ironic thing is that the Romans too, under Constantine the Great, moved their capital from Rome to Constantinople, closer to the Persian border, thus keeping the Sassanids in check.

They probably had one of the best, the Armenians had just as good heavy cavalry/cataphracts, as the Persians said themselves. But there was also the Byzantine Scholarii.
