Ойын-сауық

In this Rings of Power Season 1 review, I explain the top 5 reasons the show was so terrible. I discuss the the show's production, the toxic femininity, the harfoots, Tolkien's lore and the overarching boredom I felt watching this show. People like you responsible for ROP. You liked Jackson's films because you were five and watching with your Mummy or something and didn't appreciate the story had been radically altered from the original. Amazon saw that you could get away with dumbing-down Tolkien and did ROP. They would not have dared to otherwise. Now a new generation of kids will grow up loving ROP and seeing that as the "original" story and people like you will be increasingly older and forgotten. But you are just as bad as they are - you let a hack trash a classic story and facilitated corporate greed-it is your fault, stop whining.

    I'm pretty sure the reason for why galdriel never suffers any backlash for her behaviour is because the writers don't consider her behaviour to be wrong. I'm pretty sure the writers think that this behaviour conveys strength and any man acting like this would be respected for it. And since the only way these writers are capable of portraying a strong women is to strip all femininity off her and replace it with masculine traits we get this character that the writers reflexivly insist on calling galadriel.

    Of all the characters they decide to load with "toxic masculinity" traits to push their woke feminist ideology they choose a fae enchantress/queen of fairies figure who was such a powerfully feminine character. When Galadriel and the 300 Numenoreans teleport to Middle-Earth with their horses, you'll notice they're charging with sun setting and to their back. In the very next scene when they magically arrive at the exact town in the Southlands they needed to be in, they're charging into the sun. The shadows indicate that. So, the only reasonable explanation is they either were riding in circles or rode past the town, just to make a 180 degree turn to get a nice shot of them riding into the town to save the day. The entire show is a dumpster fire

    @@mrrerechannel There's a bunch of continuity errors or scenes that contradict previous scenes. The orc vs humans battle scene is full of them. I don't know if the continuity errors were done on purpose of not. During the orc vs men battle, you see Arondir shoot the rope causing the tower to collapse. A scene or two later and the tower is still standing. During this battle, it cant decide if it's night or day since it repeatedly goes from day to night to day. One scene shows Arondir making a stabbing motion towards an orc, but in post-production, they forgot the CGI in a knife. The orcs burn in sunlight, yet during the battle scene where it's still sunlight out, the orcs don't burn up. Another is Bronwyn is shot by two arrows, but she'd only treated for one. It's insane

I don't know how Galadriel wouldn't know that the southland king's lineage had been broken. Can we just stop for a moment and consider the fact: Between Sauron arriving in Eregion (several centuries into Second Age) and Durin's Bane awakening (year 1790 of Third age) passes around 3500 years or more. And if my memory serves me well, Mordor was formed as an aftershock from the War of Wrath at the very end of the First Age, meaning its another several centuries till balrog wrecks Khazad-Dum. Meaning, showrunners (I won't call those authors) crammed around whopping *FOUR THOUSANDS YEARS* of history into some weeks season 1 takes. That would be an unacceptable level of quality even for a fanfiction, even for a rule34 fanfiction! That's an unquality! Why even my cringy jest looks better than this show's timeline. It just don't... Why even care... This show is below cringe, below stupid jokes, below shite for quality, below character assassination and lore tarnishing, it a damn thing of its own. Its a singularity of everything wrong with how industry is ran. Fake or misguided passion, fake virtues worn as a camo-net, disrespect for everyone and everything, complete lack of understanding of what the heck they were even doing, lack of even basic writing skills, smudged in overbloated budget wasted on glitter instead of substance. As I understand it, the showrunners didn't have the full rights to the other books of the Tolkien lore (i.e. The Silmarillion, etc.) so, while they could use the *characters* like Galadriel, Elrond, etc., they were prohibited from telling any of the story events faithfully as depicted from those books. Which meant they were left with either telling bits of stories that occurred BETWEEN the events in the books, that weren't explored or even alluded to in the lore, and/or inventing a whole bunch of new characters and settings to 'fill in' the gaps. And to do that, the showrunners were essentially asking the writers to compete with Tolkien himself, coming up with new stuff that matched his in terms of depth and creativity. That's a HELL of an ask, for even good quality writers - never mind the by-the-numbers mediocre ones they actually got.

    This is a fantastic summary! I’m trying to compile the best summaries to show my friend who didn’t watch the show and doesn’t believe me about the magnitude of how bad it is. This video is a winner! My personal pet peeve, which seems to bother nobody else (I guess it’s pretty minor compared to all the other stuff) judging from the many comments sections I have read, is that they have two warships blow up in the harbour shortly before they are supposed to go to war, nobody investigates, nobody is concerned about that, nobody is concerned about the safety of the other three ships. They’ve lost 2/5 of their full strength and they’re just gonna go ahead with their battle plan. What?! On a sidenote, it is also ridiculous that Elendil accepts the obvious BS story from Isildur and doesn’t ask any questions. OK, one more. How the hell does the guild system work in Númenor? You can become in master, therefore entitled to a badge, and discover employment in one day? Maybe the showrunners need to go study the Hanseatic League. I mean, in addition to everything else they need to study but won’t! Thanks for a great video although those high-pitched screeching flute noises traumatized my eardrums 🤣🤣🤣 but they were really the perfect accompaniment for a summary of the show!

    Awesome! Yeah, that bugged me too. I just had such a short fuse with this show. I wanted to get the video done because I didn't want to spend anymore time than I had to with the material. Another thing I will say is I watched these vids to do my research on the lore and they completely shat on the Numenoreans. They were supposed to have huge ships as well. kzread.info/dash/bejne/iaxmrKtvgNW-d9I.html I think the show runners were banking on the LOTR fans being extremely non-autistic, but they obviously miscalculated. I'm too autistic to be able to handle all the inconsistencies and all the things that were glossed over. I'm glad you liked it. I wish I could have made it as extensive as it maybe deserved to be, but I honestly couldn't take anymore. I had to put in the scuffed flute Howard Shore music, lol!

    @@mrrerechannel I really admire the dedication of all these true fans with KZread channels, such as yourself, who actually watch the show so you can report on it for the rest of us! It would take a lot of patience to put together any video on a subject matter one despises, so I completely understand how you didn’t want to spend any more time on it. Thank you for the link! I will watch it later. How did they not even have a continuity editor? Tolkien was so precise about the exact dates of each event and exactly how long it would take for the fellowship to travel from point A to point B. He even made sure the times of the moon were accurate. Peter Jackson had to make some modifications such as putting in the confrontation with Shelob shortly before the Battle of Pelennor Fields, but he was careful enough with it that it was plausible. It’s almost like these show runners couldn’t even be bothered. I watched the review of the first episode and I thought the reviewer was joking when he said Big G jumped off the ship and is now in the middle of the ocean. I think somebody checked on a map and said it would be 3000 miles for her to swim back to the shore of Middle Earth. “ it’s going to be difficult for her to make it.” “ no, it’s super easy. Barely an inconvenience.” I can’t wait for the pitch meeting for ROP! In case you don’t know what I’m talking about, there is a hilarious channel called “pitch meetings” that has 5 to 8 minute long videos on approximately 400 movies and TV shows. They say they've got five seasons plotted out. Why on earth would they front-load the creation of the Three in season 1 when they know they've got five to play with? Season 1 - set up the world. Elves are growing weary, Numenor is distant, orcs are getting more active, our main cast of elves start tinkering with lesser rings. Season 2 - the first true Rings of Power are created, nine of them made to help preserve the elves way of life. Rumours swirl of a dark lord somewhere. Season 3 - seven more rings are made, suspicion and distrust swirl among the elves as they realise there's a traitor among them. Season 4 - Sauron is revealed as a background character, a mauve shirt who we've seen hanging around and being involved in the forging scenes but never really focused on. The Nine and the Seven are seized, the season ends with the Three being forged and Eregion's destruction. Season 5 - War of the Last Alliance. Boom. Job done.

We know this because Morgoth hanged Maedhros by the wrist from the top of Thangorodrim for at least 24 years until he was rescued by Fingon and Thorondor(King of Eagles). I haven’t tuned in since the first couple episodes made the hair on the back of my neck stand up, it was SO remote from Tolkien… I was actually eager to see creative license taken, I have read some very intriguing fan fiction over the years that nonetheless stays within Tolkien’s cosmology, as he himself extended many of his own ideas to a place that was “non-canonical”, which can be observed and investigated in all of the many volumes of “The History of Middle Earth” published by his son, Christopher and his estate. But what they are doing here is f**king confounding. Are they honestly developing Sauron’scharacter as a vulnerable Byronic antihero? Are they for real? JRRT’s cardinal concept of good and evil did not leave much of a grey area for ambiguity, or ambivalence--or purchase for the footing of contemporary “psycho-emotive” development….These are very recent relativistic filters constructed because the notion of absolutes has become so taboo. EVERYONE must have complexity now, and something redeeming, and some kind of gestalt “backstory”. They can’t just be rotten to the core, or powermad, or monomaniacally evil… such things are regarded as “unrealistic” in todays world, - yes, okay, and they were unrealistic even when the author first wrote his work, because this was friggin FANTASY you shitwits… the only thing I ever remember reading in all of Tolkien’s words which departs from the apprehension of Sauron’s utter and total corruption (and utterly corrupting power) was how “ no thing, not even Sauron, was evil in origin” (I might be paraphrasing there slightly), along with a vague elaboration of his “fall”--an event which took place not long after the creation of the world--from the powerful being “Mairon”, which meant “ esteemed” in Elvish, to Sauron --“accursed”, the greatest and most accursed lieutenant of Melkor/Morgoth… it was this complete and total commitment to evil that made his power so dangerous, even when he veiled it with some “fair” appearance--you know, like with that, um, RING? Remember, that talisman that was so dangerous to the world that it had to be COMPLETELY DESTROYED--the thematic narrative CORE of the FAMOUS TRILOGY called “THE LORD OF THE RINGS”? Or maybe I am overlooking something.

    Galadriel was taught by Melian, and such wisdom she carries when that happened was not even shown in this pathetic series of Rings of Power. The part where wisdom should rule over hatred vanished. The Dialogue was also below average. When Tolkien created his characters and made conversations, you can sense the touch of poetic idioms in it, viz. Thranduil and Elrond, et al. The moment they started talking about "the boat looks above", I can't help but roll my eyes on the pale surface of dialogue making.

Villagers go to the elven tower for better defensive capabilities but then they abandon that tower and somehow didn't meet the orcs out of the one way path? And instead of running to another settlement they go back to defend their very open village that was just sacked?? Halbrand gets injured, survives riding for six days, gets healed in one and is immediately strong enough to work a forge and no one suspected anything until galadriel hears celebrimbor repeating what Adar said?? dafuq. The amount of absurdities, stupid plot devices contrivancies, and lack of realism is astounding :)...especialy jarring in comparison to Tolkien's source material, the guy who tried to make things as realistic as possible even planning out the Moon phases during the journey hehe :), these writers are absolute hacks! The lore inconsistencies and contradictions are ENORMOUS! The whole thing with the forging of the Rings in the show makes no fucking sense! The Rings were supposed to be this grand plan, a carefully planned intrigue of Sauron, the plot of enslave the Elves and make them Sauron's servants, he devised all the ringlore for them and taught them knowledge how to make them becuase he wanted them to rely on those magical tools so he could gain supremacy over them using the connection between the rings that were made with his knowledge and binding them with his Ruling Ring...none of that is even hinted in the show which defeats entire point of the rings' existance! The invented storylines are awful, hell beyond terrible, the whole thing with mithril and it's properties in the show some sort of 'elf cancer' killing them for some reason rotting that tree....absolutely no sense! (how in the hell a rottin tree, a blight on a different lifeform can show the elves themselves being in danger?! It doesn't help that the whole thing with hte 'fading of the elves' got mixed up with other concepts like the corruption so dark power of Morgoth or Sauron flowing out into the world and tainting the land itself, and blight upon lifeforms, and the fading of Elves as Tolkien intended which is natural process that takes thousands upon thousand and thousands of years, so not yet progressed far in Second Age setting and completely of different nature, that is spirits consuming their bodies across vast time period along with natural aging, and 'fading' as in mode of the time passage in mortal lands of other things around in the world passing away, which the elves wanted to slow down due to their love of the mortal lands), regarding the lore references, the Elves according to Tolkien DO sleep though in different mode: "…Only Legolas still stepped as lightly as ever, his feet hardly seeming to press the grass. leaving no footprints as he passed; but in the waybread of the Elves he found all the sustenance that he needed, and he could sleep, if sleep it could be called by Men, resting his mind in the strange paths of elvish dreams, even as he walked open-eyed in the light of this world." ... "With that he fell asleep. Legolas already lay motionless, his fair hands folded upon his breast, his eyes unclosed, blending living night and deep dream, as is the way with Elves. Gimli sat hunched by the fire, running his thumb thoughtfully along the edge of his axe. The tree rustled. There was no other sound." ... "It is plainly suggested that Elves do ‘sleep’, but not in our mode, having a different relation to what we call ‘dreaming’. Nothing very definite is said about it (a) because except at a length destructive of narrative it would be difficult to describe a different mode of consciousness, and (b) for reasons that you so rightly observe: something must be left not fully explained, and only suggested." And indeed they need to eat, drink etc. but they are incredibly resistant and have great endurance and vitality and are energetic so they can exert themselves far longer than normal humans but still have limitations and the whole jumping off in the near middle of the ocean was the dumbest thing indeed, hell the Elves can drown and many did: "The year was waning to autumn, and before long great winds were to be expected, hostile and dangerous, even to Elven-ships while they were still near to Middle-earth. But so great was the grief of Amroth that nonetheless they stayed their going for many weeks; and they lived on the ship, for their houses on the shore were stripped and empty. Then in the autumn there came a great night of storm, one of fiercest in the annals of Gondor. It came from the cold Northern Waste, and roared down through Eriador into the lands of Gondor, doing great havoc; the White Mountains were no shield against it, and many of the ships of Men were swept out into the Bay of Belfalas and lost. The light Elven-ship was torn from its moorings and driven into the wild waters towards the coasts of Umbar. No tidings of it were ever heard in Middle-earth; but the Elven-ships made for this journey did not founder, and doubtless it left the Circles of the World and came at last to Eressëa. But it did not bring Amroth thither. The storm fell upon the coasts of Gondor just as dawn was peering through the flying clouds; but when Amroth woke the ship was already far from land. Crying aloud in despair Nimrodel! he leapt into the sea and swam towards the fading shore. The mariners with their Elvish sight for a long time could see him battling with the waves, until the rising sun gleamed through the clouds and far off lit his bright hair like a spark of gold. No eyes of Elves or Men ever saw him again in Middle-earth. Of what befell Nimrodel nothing is said here, though there were many legends concerning her fate." There you go we have an example of an elf who was still far far closer to the shore and still drowned trying to swim across large distance in uneasy waters.

    @@mrrerechannel well the quotes that I gave say that they DO sleep the line about different mode of consciousness and all that, and Legolas in story eventually also needs laying down to sleep, the Elves after all do have beds, pillows, blankets :) or use furs to cover themselves etc. they need rest too and have dreams while sleeping, hell in Silmarillion important plot point is thanks to two elves being asleep :), "But Ulmo coming up the river laid a deep sleep upon [Turgon and Finrod] and heavy dreams; and the trouble of the dreams remained after they awoke, but neither said aught to the other, for their memory was not clear, and each believed that Ulmo had sent a message to him alone." The Silmarillion, Quenta Silmarillion, Ch 13, Of the Return of the Noldor As was said the Elves have greater stamina and energy that will take a long time to exert and get tired but they do have limits, and eventually their strength runs out. Yeah when it comes to lore there is a LOT of contradictions and changes and alterations which make little sense in context of Tolkien, sometimes so serious they break the actual 'cause and effect' chain, like in Tolkien's world the discovery of mithril directly leads to establishment of Eregion the neighboring elven realm to Moria, but the show completely disregards that: "Later some of the Noldor went to Eregion, upon the west of the Misty Mountains, and near to the West-gate of Moria. This they did because they learned that _mithril _had been discovered in Moria. The Noldor were great craftsmen and less unfriendly to the Dwarves than the Sindar; but the friendship that grew up between the people of Durin and the Elven-smiths of Eregion was the closest that there has ever been between the two races. Celebrimbor was lord of Eregion and the greatest of their craftsmen; he was descended from Fëanor." ... "750 Eregion founded by the Noldor." But this is just minor thing in the general mess with the timeline of events and so on, many things great and small are so altered and so weirdly interpreted that one wonders whether the showrunners and script writers even know the lore properly :).

    Well personally speaking, I don't think there's too many problems with Galadriel's characterisation, she's not a likeable character, but I could feel the writers trying to portray her as an elf corrupted by darkness to the point of being too paranoid, and in that they succeeded. I wanted to hate her, but I couldn't resist looking at her face... On the other hand, I don't think Míriel and Pharazôn are vicious enough, they are too friendly to the elves, and given Númenor's history you'd expect Pharazôn to be a little more cunning and arrogant, but in the show he doesn't even look like he'll survive one season in King's Landing.

I also very much liked the dwarves, & Gil-Galad. I’m glad it was filmed in Middle Earth…I mean NZ. I thought casting for Galadriel & Elrond was spot-on (how they looked), even if they (well, Galadriel) were terribly written. EVERYONE on this project- and I mean everyone, not just the Cast, but the Production Crew, Scriptwriters, everyone- should've been made to study all Tolkien materials pertaining to this Age. 1:32 Galadriel is always right? The show wants to present it that way but when you analyze every one of her decisions and their impact, she's wrong nearly every time. In the beginning, she wanted to leave a soldier behind and two seconds later it turns out there's a structure they were looking for. She would have abandoned him for no reason. The next decision is she wants to continue hunting for Sauron - in the North. Had her soldiers not mutinied, Galadriel would have spent Season 1 exploring the North Pole. Then her great decision to jump ship - this led to her bringing Sauron to Numenor to the Southlands and finally to Erigion to craft the rings. In the process she gets Numenor to launch a military expedition that essentially failed as the enemy got what he wanted while they only got several of their people fried and their Queen blinded which no doubt will be used by Ar-Pharazon to usurp power and lead to the destruction of Numenor - great job, Galadriel! Then when she discovers Halbrand is (gasp!) Sauron, she continues the project that he had had his hands all over and doesn't bother telling anyone that their human assistant was the Dark Lord. Galadriel single-handedly ruined Middle Earth. Was she supposed to be the villain the whole time?

  • @mrrerechannel

    @mrrerechannel

    My real point is that she and everyone else act like she's always right. She never issues an apology to anyone. She's always included in the decision making, even though obviously, as you pointed out, she F's a lot of shit up. She doesn't atone for any of her sins. There are no consequences for HER for her bad decisions. Everyone's licking her boots, even though she's a dumbass. The queen regent gets blinded and people from her volunteer army get killed and then she tells Galadriel: don't worry, I'll come back with more troops to help your cause. Galadriel is just a bad leader and doesn't show any remorse for her poor judgement. Also, jumping off a ship 3000 miles away from where you're trying to get to is suicide... but it works out for her.

    LOTR fan you may be but I’m curious have you read the other books outside the hobbit and LOTR? ❤🎉🎉❤

    Dam. I wrote a bunch of stuff out and then pressed cancel on accident. I have not read anything else besides those and actually, I only mostly read the LOTR. The hobbit is really my favorite book. I did go and watch like 3 hours of videos on the lore to prepare for the lore section. As far as fandom goes, the trilogy are my favorite movies ever. I had LOTR wallpaper in my room as a kid, played BFME(1, 2, ROTWK), the return of the king game, fellowship of the ring game, got an anduril replica, collected a bunch of the LOTR cards, collected hexes and decorated a dormatory hall LOTR style. I was a pretty big fan, just didn't get into the extra books, unfortunately.
