    These people do not understand the basic subordination in the army, how can they understand something complex and more highly specialized? When the elite elves dropped their weapons after a fight with an ice troll, this is a clear example of the stupidity and misunderstanding of the authors. An elite squad sent in search of Sauron cannot be so cowardly. If these are rookies, then what is happening is even more stupid.

Any student of Tolkien's work would give anything to have inherited the greatest fantasy IP of the modern age, and yet Simon just wants to destroy it because he doesn't like being in the shadow of it. ... I say, if he hates it so much, give it to someone who loves it and will take care of the estate. He should change his name if hates being in the shadow of his grandfather, and go make his own life far away from it all. The biggest thing it seems that this show is missing (and the list is long mind you) is love. The writings of Tolkien are full of love. Characters that love each other, in many different ways, not just romantic. The heroes in LOTR especially all cared deeply about each other and had strong bonds of friendship. Frodo and Sam, Aragorn and Borimer, Legolas and Gimli, to name a few. And not just between friends and comrades, but a love for nature, for one's homeland, for one's kin, for one's king, all of this was oozing out of Tolkien's books and Jackson's movies. ROP hasn't got any of that. I struggle to think of any two characters that even slightly like each other in this show. Everyone is so bitter, on edge, manipulative, and fake, all the time. It's no wonder people can't stand to watch it.

    When I first started watching, Elrond and Durin (despite the fact that they named him Durin) were the only characters I liked and had any investment. That went out the window once it came out their story line was about recharging the elves batteries with mithril, and that mithril was created because an elf and a balrog were fighting over a random tree that apparently held one of the holiest artifacts in Arda (which were never "lost" in the sense that no one knew where they were, by the way) and all three were struck by a bolt of lightning, thereby infusing the mountain below with super-elf juice that could stop the entire Elven race from dying. I know the Appendices were all the writers had to work with, but I'm becoming increasingly convinced that all they did was browse them for names and words to sprinkle throughout the story to make it sound like Tolkien. The same way a middle schooler would write an "original" story for English class and borrow names and storylines from his favorite book or TV show and hope no one will notice.

    I really thought Adar could've been an interesting character and plot line, that maybe he was one of the first Elves to have awakened in Cuivienen who was captured by Melkor and saw his fellow Elves tortured, corrupted and twisted into Orcs. Adar would've then seen how his people were turned into nothing but soldier fodder to fight in wars and no one ever learning the truth. This would at least explain why he sympathizes with the Orcs, and that him killing the wounded Orc would be better to give them the release of death. But also Adar would still be a corrupted Elf being under the Evil Torture and maybe even servitude of Morgoth for so many ages. That he wants the Sun gone so that it no longer hurts the Orcs, and might cause Orodruin to explode and spew forth the volcanic clouds to cover all of Mordor, as to give the orcs a home.

Throw into the mix that during practice, all "fighters" will be using fake swords and all the padding they would need not to hurt themselves, AND the choreography will always start slow until they all learn their steps. We are not making things up about this actress, we are just saying things as they are. She's a whinny brat, like 90% millennials (I know because I'm one of them) and her story sounds like that urbanite who thinks she's very heroic because she didn't complain when her soy pumpkin spice latte wasn't served warmth enough to her liking.

    I guess two of the five warships blowing up in the harbour is such a commonplace occurrence that nobody is investigating how or why this happened. There should be concern about the safety of the remaining ships, which should be immediately secured and have guards posted on it 24/7. The authorities should be very interested in speaking to the two young men who were in the water very shortly after the explosions. Might they be responsible, or might they have seen who was responsible? This is a major internal security threat for Númenor. Also, they are just casually going to go to battle with 3/5 of their full strength of poorly trained volunteers wearing inadequate cloth/pleather/plastic armour with helmets that are too big and will obstruct their vision if they move their heads too fast. This is definitely laying the groundwork for success.

An adventure can have a downtime episode or two to allow the characters to breathe and adventure doesn't have to be violent, there just has to be conflict and solutions eg Spice and Wolf. Mixing the two might not be everyone's taste because it might feel rather mundane to the people wanting some bite to their action and those wanting a nice and simple story might not be happy when things get a bit intense but there's stuff out there for someone to find and appreciate if they're in the mood to find it.

    I was sooo pumped to finally see the Numenoreans and then I saw this bastardization. I described the Numenoreans to a friend of mine who never read the books as basically like a bunch of Master Chiefs from Halo or an army of Doomslayers from Doom. These guys are freaking terrifying and awesome! Then you have this show and I need to get drunk and forget about what I saw depicted.

    I think you pointed out the biggest problem the writers have. They know the whole story and think we know what they know despite not showing or telling us. When you point this out they still don't understand how they've failed at their one job which was to make a cohesive and coherent story. The give it to me raw line had me throw up in my mouth but you had me actually bust out laughing. As for the uniforms why did they wear them onto the ship? Isn't it supposed to take days to get to the southlands? So they're going to be wearing the same clothes for days and then head into battle? Obviously they won't shower because there are too many people on the tiny boat.

    Nah, it's all mystery box storytelling, just as they learnt at JJ's feet. The possibilities are always going to be more intriguing than the payoff, so just keep stringing people along promising them it'll all make sense later. What do you care if they're disappointed in the end, you already got their money. It's storytelling as con job.

    So let me get this straight- Elrond was tasked with going to Khazad-Dum and drafting the dwarves to assist in building a forge within a few months as so to smelt some mithril (which the elves also need quickly) that is only found within the mines of Khazad-Dum - but the dwarves won’t be mining the mithril at full effect since a significant amount of their manpower is diverted to building the forge - at the elves’ request.

    There is actually something in the lore about the Elves who stayed behind in Middle-Earth fading (just as Luthien did, apparently she never grew old, she just faded out of the world as time passed), which is probably what they're referring to. It could also be a very good reason why the Elves were so interested in the Rings when Sauron taught them how to make them. But to tie this in with Mithril, and a Silmaril in a tree? WTF?

  • @stefanol7814

    @stefanol7814

    The three elven Rings are actually an abomination, crafted by the elves in total secrecy (but with the same patented SauronTech they used to make the other rings) in order to try and "stop" (slow) time and create their own mini-Valinor in Middle Earth. Not something you could tell anyone. Nothing to do with Mithril, even though Nenya is made of it.

The new universe he creates is the Tolkin universe and not this. It's the only thing my mind can come up with to explain the absolute horrific (EVIL!)of this. I remember in the lore Morgoth screwed up the 1st attempt at singing creation Aru-iluvatar chastised him and started over. I pray that is where we are.

    Couple of things I just would like to mention. 1) For Rhythm of War Brandon Sanderson consulted with Shad for at least one fight scene in the book. Amazon couldn't be bothered to do something similar in a visual medium. 2) Because even comparing this to the Hobbit trilogy is low hanging fruit I want to bring up the Princess Bride. The movie had what looked like good fencing done by actors if I am not mistaken who learned during shooting. For movie that I am sure in today's money wouldn't equal the budget for an episode. The Biden administration might want to ask the SEC/ FBI/ IRS to look into this shit. Clearly the money was not all spent on the show or even adjacent to the show like advertising.
