I served in Kuwait. The Marines, Sailors and soldiers had a Navy Priest. They held Mass everyday in the main compound tent. They had a Protestant chaplain but not he was in a cushy area in Bahrain. The Catholic chaplain was always in the thick of it with his men and women. The Catholic Priest would interact with us by making sure we had an enough water. A year later I signed up for RCIA. Part of my family was Catholic and I was raised by a second generation Irish Catholic family in daycare. The point is the priest led by example

I know I'm late to the party, but why do you consider Catholicism to be a form of Christianity? Genuinely...do you agree with the typical docterine of the Catholic Church? The Bible says saints are believers who follow Christ. Aka Christians. Not special Christians that "earn" the title from the Catholic Church. Also should only pray as Jesus asks us to. To God. He also tells us to ask God directly for forgiveness. Prayer is almost always to be done in private, not in public. We are told not to worship or pray to idols vs praying to worshipping God directly. The Bible is against more stereotypical ideolgies of the Catholic Church more than most other Christian churches ......so how do you justify these things? I am a curious non-denom.. meaning I belong to THE church as all ofnus believers do. I study the Bible with others and believe it's the word inspired by God. We will always fall short, as the Bible says, but we must try our best to stidy and KNOW Jesus through prayer, through the Bible, and life. Why did the Catholic Church start All Saints Day and All Hallows Eve instead of acknowledging Martin Luther/Reformation Day? 🤔 Weird. Why were they they first known misrepresentation of Jesus and God? God shown as Jupiter , Jesus shown as Saturn (the previous gods of the Romans)? And then they instated Saturnalia.... Probably to help hide their terrorizing of Christians. But also in stead of Christ's birth during Sukkot. There's a lot more. I would like answers, I grew up in a Catholic church, went to Catholic school for ten years, and have asked many Catholics about this, read Catholics "answers" to these types of questions and nothinf is made apparent. Can someone please explain?

The world has gotten so much smaller. Our “worlds” have gotten so much smaller. Keeping our close even closer. I went to see “The Chosen” season 4 episodes 1-3 at the movies with some of my customers. They asked me how long I knew the Lord. I said I was a Cradle Catholic. They asked if that meant I was a Christian. What!?!?!? We were/are the ORIGINAL Christians. So many are either taught untrue and unkind things about Catholics or not at all. While I’m not trying to convert anyone immediately , I would like to educate many. I invited them all to come to a Mass and I would reciprocate by attending one of their services. I am as Catholic as they come and perhaps they are deeply dedicated to their faith as much as I am. But getting them to attend one Mass at least to understand my faith more truthfully will hopefully help to stop the lies and show them the TRUTH of being a Catholic. Which is so beautiful.

The *Big* question is - how do Roman Catholic *Christians* spread the word to other denominational Christians that CATHOLICS are *FIRST DEGREE - ORIGINAL CHRISTIANS* , when the Evangelicals (born again Christian preachers/pastors) are openly spreading the false narrative on air on TV all over the West etc.AND no strategy by the RC church to counter these false teachings that Catholics are: * NOT Christians * Do NOT read the bible (as the hierarchy with-hold biblical knowledge from the flock) * R.C. preach false Christian doctrine * R.Catholics preach 'Replacement Theology' contrary to biblical fact. *Believe it or not, Christians with all its denominations are their worst enemies* . Remember, what Jesus said Matt 22:25-29 *Every kingdom divided against itself will not stand & is brought to desolation* . Until there's no competition within the various Christian denominations to entrap *customers* using the *JESUS* brand name to undercut each other to make money as a charity family business or tithe collections, 🤔 - it's a cutthroat business *SADLY* . Every Evangelical organisation has it's own special charismatic front man woman which draws in the *CROWD* Fr. Casey, I hop from one Christian TV channel to another and one youtube video to another - listening to these preachers - some with hundreds of follows & others with less. I even view Judaism Rabbis videos and GUESS WHAT - Fr. Casey, *I'm still a baptised Roman Catholic Christian & always will be* 😆 The seed fell on fertile ground decades ago. 😉. It matters NOT whether you wear a brown friars habit or a bikini. 😉

The first things I heard about orthodoxy is not about the beauty of your liturgy, the profoundness of your meditative practices or the distinctiveness of your art, but the condamnation of the west. All faiths claim to be the true one, it's not going to set you appart. Frankly your feud with the west is more a deterrent than an appeal, I mean a person knowing nothing about your religious group is just going to conclude you are uncharitable. It's not like I was the only one saying that, your own bishops are very vocal about the need of your people to be me more friendly and welcoming of newcomers.

It is not charitable to confort people into their drowsiness. Christians have to claim the Gospel and the relevant part today is : "Then I heard another voice from heaven say: “Come out of her, My people, so that you will not share in her sins or contract any of her plagues." If this is too harsh for you ears, the problem comes from your ears brother. Not from my mouth for I am just a messenger of Christ. Complain diretly to the boss. Kyrie eleison.

Preaching to the choir is easy to do, while evangelizing to a world that is, at best, apathetic, and at worst, hostile, is a far more difficult task. Yet, we are not called to do easy things. We are called, as Christians, to do the difficult thing. For it gives no glory to God to do that which is simple. Thank you, Father Casey, for reminding us of that. I have not done my own due diligence in speaking to people about our faith, or addressing the needs of those who have relinquished any attachment to our faith.

Actually according to Bishop Barron among others, the chior considers Transubstantiation as a symbolic custom, support medical termination of pregnancy, divorced folk can remarry and the Western nuclear deterrence is necessary for our security. It does not seem that the Choir is being evangelised that much either.

Speaking as a non Catholic, raised Episcopalian, now a scriptural based Christian, I've been around the roller coaster looking for the right congregation. Looking at the entire big C Church, what I continuously think to myself is, "I wish these guys would just get over themselves and let their ego and bias go." Very plainly this butting of heads between each Christian group over who is right, or most right, or spiritually based, or scripturally based, etc just hurts the people who simply want to hear the good news and follow God's word. I sometimes wish, if the heads of each denomination cant agree, then they should at least have a meeting once a year/ biannually/ once every decade, whatever to meet in fellowship of Jesus and discuss matters and principles of preaching the word and the word itself. We are becoming lost sheep for Gods sake! Help us!

I grew up LDS, and converted in my late 20's when a diagnosis sparked the desire to know God. I am well now, praise be to God. For whatever else many may make of the LDS they do a few things VERY well. Family history, family time, and missionary work. I still spend my free time doing geneology as i believe its important, and any father or mother knows the importance of family and love, but missionairy work feels so absent in our faith. An LDS missionairy is an 18 year old that is sent to MTC (missionairy training center, essentially a boot camp of lds theology + learning the essentials of the primary language where the missionairy is to go) and then they go out into the world. Their training is generally 12 weeks long before they go out for 2 years of their life to spread what they believe to be the truth. It is inspiring to me and though I elected to join the military (even as a youth I had many doubts of the LDS faith), I have taken that with me as I crossed the Tiber. These boys have hundreds, if not thousands, of doors slammed on them. Strangers yell at them, cuss at them, spit at them. But they carry on. How can we, knowing this is the true church God established, that is preserved by the Lord & the blood of countless martyrs, not follow that example?

The friendliness and awesome music, free bagels, feel good preaching (on non-religious deep questions) attracted me to the Evangelical Protestant church I attended for 4 years. This “Jesus lite” had me looking for substantial teaching after a time. I found it in the Traditional Catholic Church. We have 5 packed full Masses on Sundays and 2-3 full daily Masses. We have groups and apostolates to suit every taste and temperament, including those that “go out into the world”. It’s truth, sometimes difficult to hear. It’s reverent and asks one to sacrifice and grow in faith. And the numbers of people just keep going up because true faith bears fruit. The “cool” church has shown the fruits it’s borne-the empty pews of which you speak. Truth works.

True words! It was the same for me too, the friendliness, the love, joy, peace and hope that protestant christians radiated and the fun events they hosted, inspired me to start reading the bible, having a personal relationship with God and going to catholic mass again. This didn’t only happen to me, the bible group from my high school started with 6 people and after 2 years there were about 30 students there. Not everyone was christian of course, but a lot of people were drawn to the group. This is something we can learn from our protestant brothers and sisters:)

This reminds me of a mantra from a non-Catholic ministry while I was in grad school: "People over program." We shouldn't teach people as projects like so many evangelicals tend to do; they are not a notch on the belt of "winning souls", but we need to build those relationships with care.

I wish I could think of ways to invite younger adults to things the church is doing. Some things are just too "conservative" for a casual Catholic, the Xmas/Easter/Good Friday type. Adoration wont bring them in, a talk about the rosary or a book club about saints.Maybe church picnics can be at a park instead of church grounds. Are there ways to advertise other than a bulletin that an outsider wouldn't see? Would a game night or an engaging speaker help? I know when I tried to bring a family member to our church picnic (in parking lot) she said to bring her a brownie, she didn't belong there and didn't want pressure from "Where have you been? types. It's just so hard, but I feel if the church could do things that would bring people to it, something fun, not too deep in religion, it would be a start.

I am glad to see someone else addressing this issue. I have long advocated that all churches need to have a monthly or weekly meeting for people who are "Christian Curious." They don't want someone to preach at them or witness to them, but they do want someone who will answer their questions. In my shop, I include religious accoutrements from other religions. I get a lot of, "Are you Jewish/Muslim/Buddist...?" I answer honestly, "No, but so much of the religious hatred in the world today is based on ignorance. I am a practicing Christian and devout, but I have studied many religions. You can ask me any question about any religion and I will answer it to the best of my ability." You'd be surprised at how many people 1) lack a basic education about their own religion, and 2) thank me for telling them about Jesus Christ and not getting "Bible-thumpy" about it.

Through the games and the partying, we had ample opportunities to talk about our faith as the faculty of theology had not taken part in these games for more than a decade. But the people I meet almost always believe in Jesus. And have a church that is ("much better") than my Catholic Church. They may have fallen out of my church because of some person. SO, can you do a new talk on evangelizing a person who thinks they have all the right answers? Thanks for all you do. and I will look for your past you-tubes to see if you hit this topic. God Bless. Leo"jack" Cook.

Thank you, Father Casey. Your video about mediocrity really helped me. Now I fully agree with this video, I really feel sad seeing people say "believe or you will go to hell" and then think that they did what they were supposed to do. About finding the lost sheep, I'd also like to mention that by acting the way you say we're going to show we are just normal people. That's it. People that have problems, people that have a normal life. Not some different kind of people that just spend all their day in Church. By showing that we show that the Church is made for normal people - and it by being good we show it makes people better. And this intuitive thought might convince someone when they are asked by us.

I do a lot of work for the Knights Of Columbus and a lot of what we do is to help the church internally, but also externally like right for life. I have always feared evangelization, but your wisdom has come through again. I think the point of getting to know someone and knowing their story and being interested in that really does open the door to truly helping people find Jesus Christ. I’m a former protestant, and we were big on beating people over the head with Bibles and signs. I just wanted to tell you thank you!!!

More conservative Catholics say that is "protestant" type of thing. That is why my friend left years ago. She said Catholics don't welcome, everyone has a place, a job and no one wants help or for you to enter their group. I do see some truth to this. I tried to help at bible camps years ago, Xmas store at Catholic school, the "regulars" felt you were infiltrating I think. My friend wanted to do Xmas pageant, had ideas and no one would let her so she did it at Episcopal church instead. I'm sure many are different but cliques form everywhere. Our priest used to "yell" for lack of a better word at parish over and over at coffee and's that didn't welcome new people beyond, Hi. He'd see them come and then not come back. Coffee and isn't just to catch up with your friends you see all the time, be nice to others. I felt his pain being the odd man out sometimes.

Suggested a ‘bring a friend to church’ Sunday. Shot it down. “Not if they’re not Catholic. If they’re ‘fallen away’ they need to see me first.” But he’s never home. A distinct lack of imagination or will in parish after parish. I’m willing, able and ready to go. The clergy is the wall.

Their final judgment will come from the Son and may God have mercy on them. I, too, don't agree with sooooo much being hidden or swept "under the rug" and no punishment being meted out but I attend Mass because I want to be with Jesus. I want to praise the Holy Trinity and keep my eyes on the Resurrection. Please don't be offended.

He is charming fella and we jest with each other in passing various oddities of Bible texts. Eg, there is no list of 10 commandments in the Bible and my neighbours knows the verse where there are 13 and 18 sayings (they aren't actually commandments) can be found. I have three questions that Father Casey may have already addressed in other videos. If he has, forgive me. I am not aware of them. My questions are as follows: 1. Why are people leaving the Catholic Church in droves? 2. Are there other religious institutions, whether Christian or another faith, that have had much better retention rates? 3. If the answer is yes to question #2, what are these institutions doing differently that leads to fewer people departing from them?

  • @russellmiles2861

In the past there was much social cohesion; eg, family alienation, jobs expectation and expectation of those in public office. We have a more understanding and respectful culture. The flip side is folk don't see religious adherence a requirement for social life. The upside is those who participate in religious life are more genuine in their ideals. And the Roman Catholic church has better retention than most. Eg, in the USA the fastest declining church is Evangelicals - probably because they became so politically partisan. The Catholic church avoids such.

Well a priest at our parish who is increasing vocation inquires by his work, was told by a priest who is protestant, they pray for vocations daily. (so we do now) We had 11 inquires about vocations this past 6 months when 0 the year before. Also I feel from many who told me they left Catholicism it was varied in reasons. Many were gay or had gay family members. Many were divorced and felt annulments were too much trouble or they couldn't get them. Some felt they were more loved, more involved, more friendly in other churches. ( you can argue the reason for church but this is what I've heard a lot) I know a few coworkers who go to a church service where a pastor preaches and it's not a particular religion. I think the scandals hurt a lot and the trust and many who never said anything felt they could finally step back and go elsewhere. I think when a priest pitched a tent outside our city church, for anyone to ask questions (we were in large college town) it was a good idea. You hear then what people think, what bothers them and can address it.

I think many young adults are living on their own and peers influence a bit. Some are living with a guy and know its' a sin with the church, they don't want to stop, so why go to church? In the past, they lied or got married younger and the priest just would wipe the earlier stuff away. Some are divorced and have complicated living situations. Some feel if they can't have the Eucharist, why go? Some were married outside the church and know they are invalid.

Thank you for all your good work and the efforts to talk about faith and Jesus Christ. I am from Germany and it is kind of funny to read comments, in which they call you liberal, leftist or worse, bc our german church is very liberal and that means, many, also clerics, dont even believe in resurrection, in Jesus as Son of God or other basics. I want to say: you are totally orthodox, but trying to avoid the traps of spreading ideology instead of the gospel. Jesus has to be in the centre of everything, if we talk about our love to Him and what He means to us, instead of doctrine, what He changed in our lifes, we do the best. Of course you should also know enough about the bible and church teachings to answer questions. Be humble, be honest, talk about the beauty of God, not politics. Just a random joke: in Eastern Germany there are only few christians left. A monk told me, when he wore his habit there ( white and black), he was asked, if he was cosplaying a jedi knight. They never saw a monk before. So he could talk about God. 😂😂😂😂
