Absolutely! If you don't want back pain after a two hours and a half practice, you need a backrest. The best gift you can do to yourself.

Why does this guy keep trying to tell telling me what I want? I know what I want, just tell me about some different thrones so I can choose. All I need is a 1 to 10 on the b-hole comfort scale measured in standard b-hole comfort units

It depends. Some of their thrones are extremely plush and cushy and soft, others are firm. There's no way to know before buying which one you will end up with. It seems to me though that there's some consistency to rely on. I have a gold sparkle with leopard print round Pork Pie and a silver sparkle with zebra print. The gold sparkle/leopard print is very plush and soft while the other is firm, and every opportunity I have had to feel these in-store, they're always the same as mine. I think you can kinda tell by the shape. Look at the shape of the gold sparkle/leopard print and compare it to the shape of the silver sparkle/zebra. The gold sparkle with leopard print has rounded sides while the silver sparkle with zebra print has flat sides.

I bought a pork pie from musicians friend and they sent me a regular instead of a big boy. I’m fat,so I’m out $30 shipping. I ordered an Ahead spinal G from AMS instead, since they didn’t honor the mistake. It’s not here yet,so I can’t tell ya if it’s good or not.

They show the Pork Pie throne in stock...three days later I’m told the person in drums that handles shipping is out of the office and they can’t tell me when it will ship. Not a good business plan for success. I won’t be placing anymore orders here.

After 26 years of playing, I can tell you that the advice to get the absolute best drum stool that you can afford is extremely good advice. It is the most important part of your setup. Here's why: First, the way you sit at the kit is the foundation and basis of all of your technique. Everything you play is from that position. So, it's important that you're 100% comfortable and that your drum stool is sturdy and stable and that it can be adjusted to precisely the height that works best for you (and that you're not sitting too close or too far away), otherwise not even the best technique will help you. Therefore, if your drum stool isn't comfortable and if it wobbles and it's rickety and if it also doesn't allow you to sit at precisely the most optimal height that works best for you (not to mention if you're sitting too close or too far away), then you're going to be struggling to play at your best no matter how hard you work on your playing every day. Again, not even the best technique will help you - and not even the most ergonomic setup ever conceived by anyone will help. Every note you play depends on your drum stool (and where you place it). If you're not comfortable, then you're not going to be able to play at your best. Period. Yes, once you take care of your comfort on your drum stool, you still have to work on everything else, but the drum stool is where you have to start. If you don't start with the drum stool, then you'll just waste time. Second, drums are absolutely 100% a physical instrument. It requires you to play it with your entire body. Therefore, you need a drum stool that supports you and allows you to play comfortably and relaxed and with good posture so that you don't get any permanent injuries over time from playing on a poor-quality stool every day. It doesn't matter how good the rest of your setup is if you don't have a good drum stool. So nothing is as important as the drum stool. Yes, the ones that have all of these qualities are very expensive, but it is an investment in your comfort and in your health - and thus an investment in your happiness with your performance every time you play your drums (and I'd say it's an investment in your sanity as well). If you find a drum stool that you know you'd love but you can't afford to pay for the entire cost all at once, put it on a credit card. Get the store's credit card and take advantage of financing promotions. Do whatever it takes to get a drum stool that has all of these qualities and I guarantee you that you will eventually see that it really is the most important part of your setup. I recommend going to stores like Guitar Center and Music Go Round and whatnot so that you can sit on different stools and make sure you adjust the height of each one you sit on so that you're as comfortable as possible. Compare how you feel on each one, especially round vs. bicycle/tractor style seats. I recently discovered that I am FAR more comfortable on a round seat. The difference for me is huge, and I played on a bicycle style seat for the past 4½ years having no clue that it was the reason why I was struggling to play at my best. I simply wasn't comfortable, but unfortunately I was comfortable enough that I didn't know what the problem was. It was driving me nuts and causing some depression as well. In case you're wondering which stool I had, it was the Roc-N-Soc Nitro - again, the one with the bicycle style seat. Don't let this deter you from trying it. You could find you love it. I simply play much better on round stools because my legs need the extra support under them that you can't get on a bicycle style seat due to those leg cut-outs. Speaking of the Nitro, I also discovered I am much more comfortable on a spindle type of stool because the bouncing action of the hydraulic lift results in too much instability for me while I'm playing which increases the difficulty of playing for me. Thanks to this discovery, I have a good spindle type of stool and now I never have to worry about a hydraulic lift failing on me - and I read that when a hydraulic lift fails, it's extremely sudden with no advanced warning signs. It just gives out and then you're stuck with being at the lowest possible height for that stool until you replace it. Imagine that happening at a gig. A spindle type of stool can't do that since it's just a seat on a post. I'm sure by now you're wondering what I recommend. That's easy for me: the Ahead Spinal G.

No... that' not what he's saying at all. He's saying - buy "quality" to begin with, instead of buying "cheap" that wears out and breaks on you or doesn't work to support you properly, and then having to replace it multiple times in an effort to spend as little as possible, only to end up figuring out, after having many bad experiences with poor quality thrones that are replaced again and again, it would have been cheaper in the end to have just bought one high quality throne, had a good playing experience, and had a piece of equipment that lasted 10+ years, which, in the end, actually ends up "saving" you money. There are plenty of reviews where longtime drummers have mentioned regretting spending years trying to go cheap, putting up with cheap thrones, going through a lot of them, and then after like 30 years finally buying a good quality one and how it was the best decision they ever made, and how it would have saved them so much money, as well as given them a much more enjoyable playing experience if they had bought the higher quality one to begin with.. Most places allow you to purchase on a payment plan, like Affirm, where even a higher quality Gibraltar or Mapex can be had for like $13 a month... even Zzounds or American Musical Supply offers to let you make payments... So, price shouldn't really be a reason to avoid getting the most comfortable, high-quality throne available, the one that you really like the most and that suits your preferences and needs the best, when in the end it will end up being cheaper than buying a lower quality throne that have to be repeatedly replaced, and that you won't enjoy using anyway. Think about it.... it makes a lot more sense to buy quality to begin with, especially when you can pay for it over time, and then know you're not going to have to replace it before long when it wears out and breaks on you, or you just hate sitting on it so much that you don't even want to practice. Also, shop around... I regularly see drum thrones selling for $269-$329 on some sites selling for $129 - $149 on other sites. Same identical thrones... simply a different seller.
