    I've had a Roc-n-soc Nitro for almost ten years now and I still love it as much today as the first time I sat my big butt down on it. It's awesome and it's held up beautifully. I'm still gigging with it and the hydraulic mechanism still works perfectly. In fact I just bought a second one for my home kit. I'm a big guy - tall, wide, and, erm, heavy. And the Roc-n-soc Nitro fits my build and frame perfectly. If you're considering getting one, I definitely recommend the backrest.

    I've had a Roc-n-Soc for over 16 years which I paid $130 for and never had any issues. Initially thought I would never get use to the Back Rest and would have to remove, it's never been a hindrance whatsoever and never noticed during playing. The fabric has barely matted if at all; stitching is still intact, never had to Re-tighten any bolts/hardware, hydraulics has never slipped. Even though they may cost more now, I would still purchase one again, no questions asked.

    The roc n soc saved my back on a cruise ship playing 3 sets 7 nights a week for 4 months straight. Since I had my friend who is a welder ad metal to the back rest making it go up to my mid upper back vs lumbar support and it is even better now imo. Great throne for long gigs especially!

    For a lot of years I played a roc-n-soc hydro throne and loved it. I added the backrest after a few years and found that to be very useful and important. Definitely liked the backrest! You should consider it! I offer warning though...if you put a backrest on a tripod throne throne you are going to fall over. If you lean back, you will fall over...eventually...and it sucks and it will hurt you. I now use a roc-n-soc with the 5 arm base. Way more stable. It will be the most embarrassing thing ever for you to fall over on the throne while at a gig.

    Easy solution: position the 3 legs so that 1 of the legs is pointed straight back. There's no need to have one of the 3 legs pointed straight forward for support. You won't tip forward. I've been playing for 26 years and have always had 1 of the 3 legs pointed straight back so that I don't have a leg sticking out in front and in my way and I've NEVER had any support issues this way. Ever. When I say "in my way", I'm referring to whenever I need to be stepping on the floor (while standing) in the space between my throne and snare because some setups at gigs are so tight that I need to have the throne all the way up to a wall, leaving me with no choice but to step between the snare and throne when sitting down or getting up and out.

    @@larrytate1657Two years late but yes, the 9000 thrones are the best, in my opinion. I have the AirLift tractor style throne, the four legs and the actual foam seat are to die for. Included in the review was the Ludwig Atlas Pro drum throne. I just purchased it and returned it. I thought I would share my views. The pros: The base of the throne is incredibly solid and heavy. There was no detectable sway coming from the post. Some may say too heavy, but not me, heavy = sturdy. The look of the throne with the red and black is killer. The seat itself is huge. Very wide and deep. The cons: The seat itself is very soft, too soft for my liking. The Tama HT430B is rock hard, the Ludwig is substantially softer and does not offer the support that it should. Somewhere in between would be ideal. The wing nut that goes into the seat bracket is of poor quality and does not securely fasten the seat to the post. When you tighten as much as possible and start sitting on it and playing, it eventually loosens off and the seat will turn/rotate. The Tama had a clamping system for the wing nut which secured it much better. I would rate this at 3 stars.

    I had a bad motorcycle accident 20 years ago . Was ready to retire the sticks , back & tall bone was murder at gigs ,ohhh the pain , but then I tried this weird looking throne . Felt really good , but didn’t think it was going to fix or change any of my issues , because I had a great throne already , which was high end Tama titan with back rest , so I didn’t think my seat was an issue . But then , I tried a roc and soc nitro , wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!, no more pain ! no more sweaty bottom ,Roc & soc hands down . I own 5 bicycle nitro ,3 with back rest I still have my first,.same seat 20 years , never any issue or problems . Still looks new , so I’m Not interested in trying anything else . This is a mandatory piece of equipment every time I play live or practice . It’s such a joy to play without pain. Roc & Soc .hands down .

    Thanks Nick for this video, this is really useful for players that may be looking to upgrade or get their first pro class drum throne for their drum kit that they have. I only wish that you would've included the Tama HT 730 trio and HT 741 quad leg models for the viewers I've been wanting to get myself an upgrade to a Tama HT 730 seat for quite some time now (I currently have a Tama HT 530 Wide rider seat) with my Tama Starclassic bubinga/birch set. I feel the Tama HT 730 and the 741 model are the most comfortable seats that I've sat on in my own opinion and I feel that the viewers are missing out on the benefits of them. Also, I've previously owned an older model Gibraltar 9208 MB stool that was quite adequate , but compared to the Tama HT 730 and HT 741, the Tama ones pretty much outdid the Gibraltar model. And yes I do agree that everybody has a right to express their opinion on their choices of what suits them "the best", to each their own.

    I have a tama first chair throne and it's great. I agree the foam is the right mix of firm and soft. But even better is the range of adjustment. It gets really high and low, and everything in between. Some really cheap thrones only have a set number of heights, but you can literally get any height you want in between the lowest point and the highest point on these thrones.

    Tama first chair throne is def the best throne I've ever sat on. I have the normal round throne standard size since I don’t need the xl cause I’m not a big dude and it cost just 99 bucks, also don’t really need the hydraulic cause once I dial the throne in, I never touch the height ever again. The new update first chair thrones are so damn comfy, sturdy, and durable. I mean just look at the legs and feet of the Tama first chair throne compared to all the other thrones. Just massive and supportive and stable. That throne ain’t goin nowhere, also there’s spikes that come out of the feet if you want or need it just in case which is also a great feature to have.

  • @sweetwater

    @sweetwater

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hey, Jyde DA. Thanks so much for writing. First Answer: They can be. It’s really personal preference. I don’t typically use them. I personally think that you have better posture without the backrest, but there are also drummers out there who swear by them. I’ve found that a split throne helps my back tremendously. The Ahead Spinal-G would be an example of that one. Second Answer: You want the throne to swivel. Makes it a lot easier to turn your body, especially if you have more than one floor tom. I hope this helps. Jason Thiele, Senior Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1391, jason_thiele@sweetwater.com

    I don’t like Roc N Socs. Am I alone here? They are not comfortable to me. I like just a basic round flat sort of seat. The roc n socs kind of smoosh my junk around and its like I can never sit without constantly readjusting my body. They also have that like hydraulic movement that I do not prefer.

    I think you're just finding that you don't like the bicycle style shape of seats. I am exactly the same way. About 20 years ago, I bought the big Pork Pie round throne and it's extremely plush and cushy and soft and ultra comfortable. 4½ years ago, I attempted to replace it with a Roc-N-Soc Nitro with the bicycle style seat. I assumed I'd love it because the bicycle style seat looks more comfortable to me than a round seat, and it also makes more sense to me because it looks specifically designed for the human body. Y'know? I kept the Pork Pie throne the entire time because I was always unsure of whether I actually liked the Roc-N-Soc. So, the Pork Pie still sat and collected dust the entire time - until a month ago. I was bored and decided to pass the time by dusting off the Pork Pie throne and perform a thorough comparison. It was an opportunity for me to compare a round seat to a bicycle style seat. When I played on the Pork Pie again, I immediately played better than I have ever played on the Roc-N-Soc. I was much more comfortable and it was much easier to relax. It was a feeling of complete relief. I kept comparing the two back and forth for several days just in case it was just due to the way I felt the first day, and after those several days of comparing, I finally understood why I preferred the Pork Pie throne. It's not because it's softer or because I was still much more accustomed to it. No. It's because it's round. The round shape gives my legs the support they need while the bicycle style shape with those leg cut-outs doesn't give my legs enough support at all. I fatigue easier because my legs can't relax. The IDEA of a bicycle seat sounds good, but in practice, those leg cut-outs are a big problem, at least for me. The first time I sat on the Roc-N-Soc, it felt like there was nowhere near enough seat for my butt, and I'm not a big person at all. I'm short at 5'4½" and I only weigh 140-150 pounds. The bicycle shape made me feel similar to the way I feel if I sit way too much on the edge of a round seat, where I'm just barely sitting on it. I became accustomed to it over time though, and I found enough comfort with the bicycle seat shape that I forgot that it was uncomfortable - until I tried my round Pork Pie throne again. When I say my legs need more support, it's not that I sit really far back on a round throne to the point where my legs can't move freely. I sit enough toward the edge that my legs can move freely, but far enough away from the edge that my legs are supported and I can relax and just focus on the music. I also don't sit high either. When seated, I'd say the Pork Pie's plush and soft cushion compresses down to about 19 or 20" from the floor, if measured from the floor to the top of the seat. Uncompressed, it's around 22" or so. With the Roc-N-Soc, I felt forced to feel like I was sitting much too close to the edge. I kept wanting to sit further back, but I was always as far back as the seat's design allows. So now I feel that bicycle style seats don't make any sense. After all, it's not like our legs are hanging down and operating pedals that are underneath the seat. They're on the floor in front of us. With a bicycle, yes, a round seat would be uncomfortable. Seated with the feet on the floor in front of us, I think a round or even a square or rectangle seat is best - with no leg cut-outs so that the legs can have all the support they need. I think round makes the most sense for drummers since we all need to be able to place our legs at whatever angles are the most comfortable to each of us.
