The M1299 was an American prototype 155 mm self-propelled howitzer developed by BAE Systems beginning in 2019 under the Extended Range Cannon Artillery (ERCA) program. It was based on the M109A7 howitzer and was primarily designed for the purpose of improving the M109's effective range. The program was canceled in 2024. In December 2022, the XM907E2 cannon fired an XM1155 sub-caliber projectile out to 110 km (68 mi).

The Koalitsiya's firing range is only achieved with rocket-propelled ammunition. With the “Vulcano” ammunition, which is also rocket-propelled, the PzH2000 can shoot approx. 80 km away. So there is no advantage on the Russian side here. And in terms of precision, the Koalitsiya first has to prove that it can achieve similarly good results as the PzH2000. By the way, it is somewhat embarrassing for Russian technology that it can only come up with a similar system 30 years after the development of the PzH2000. The successor to the PzH2000 will be the wheeled howitzer RCH155, which can also fire at the target while driving.

I didn't know this either, but the Vulcano ammunition doesn't seem to be rocket propelled at all, apparently they are simply sub-calibre, aerodynamic and GPS-guided, capable of attacking at 90° from 70km away. But that comes at the price - even moreso than for rocket-assisted rounds - of a greatly reduced payload of explosive, etc, making the Vulcano rounds very suitable for pinpoint strikes against soft to medium-armorrd targets, but that's it. Rheinmetall is developing a solution that combines a new propellant (P6) with new Assegai full-bore V-LAP rounds which are a combination of base-bleed which switches to temporary rocket propulsion without reducing the payload too much. They have already proven in field tests a range of 64km for the PzH2000 gun. The new Elbit/Rheinmetall gun will start with that to avoid any risks, but will quickly switch to a L/52A1 barrel with greater pressure chamber reaching close to 70km. The last upgrade will include an L/60 gun, enlarged pressure chamber, hardened projectiles to withstand the pressure and a final range of 83 km with projectiles of normal effect, unlike Vulcano.

Too expensive and advanced, nothing to support it that is just as advanced, i don't even know what we need it for tbh, if we want artillery, just get a towed artillery which is cheaper and still works as artillery. But i do like some of those, its just not really efficient

If I had to pick this or the RCH155 I'd pick RCH155 every time.

Maybe worth mentioning: + Rheinmetall's new propellant P6 (+10-20% range) + New generation of Assegai V-LAP rounds: a RAP may offer great range, but the rocket motor eats up half the space, so whatever arrives is not only terribly imprecise, it has a fraction of the destructive power of a normal artillery round (same goes for sub-calibre Vulcano rounds). V-LAP combines base-bleed and a mini-rocket-motor for different phases of the trajectory - range used to be 10+ km on top of base-bleed. - New Assegai V-LAP adds 20-25km range under ideal conditions. Rheinmetall Offer: First version: PzH2000 gun, resilient Israeli automated loader, all proven technology. P6 + new V-LAP: *ranges up to 64km* First upgrade: L/52A1: New shutter mechanism, increased volume pressure chamber: P6 can really shine, *ranges up to 70km* Final Upgrade: L/60 barrel and enlarged pressure chamber (still under development) allows for use of larger amounts of P6 (which is a solid that is screwed into the bottom of the projectile) to accelerate modified V-LAP rounds (extra-hard coating to withstand the pressure, under development) to significantly higher muzzle velocities, resulting in a max. *range of 83km*

The video misses the whole point, the SPH Rheinmetall/Elbit is offering will basically take three stages until you have the final product (which will have twice the range of the Archer) because they are selling to the German Army, which won't bite unless they see a reliable howitzer built of proven components (Rheinmetall builds the cannons of the PzH2000) with merely the propellant and ammunition really new, even the second stage bears little risks and will provide the Bundeswehr with artillery that is already arguably better than the 2S35 - while the parts which are still in the final stages of development will be exchanged at the time the Bundeswehr deems right, successively, after extensive testing on a small number of units. The German Army is conservative, they won't buy an unproven product, so initially they'll receive a PzH2000 on wheels with a new loading mechanism and a significantly improved ammunition package. New system components: - Improved Rheinmetall Assegai V-LAP ammunition: while a RAP means a much smaller payload/explosion, V-LAP combines the base-bleed concept with a rather small rocket-motor, both active during different phases of the flight. V-LAP will be the standard for any target beyond 40km. Their newest Assegai V-LAP rounds reached 64km with a PzH 2000 under ideal conditions. [Ready from Day 1] - Rheinmetall has developed a new, (10-20% stronger) propellant called P6. Unlike modular charges, it is screwed into the bottom of the shell for long ranges, while the azimuth of the barrel determines the target coordinates. [Ready] - L/52A1 barrel with new closing mechanism and enlarged pressure chamber [Almost ready] - L/60 gun with even larger pressure chamber [in development] - Hardcoated ammunition that will withstand the forces in the L/60 barrel [in development] *First stage* So the first version of the gun will basically be a PzH2000 with an Israeli automated loader compartment, new ammo + new propellant - which will offer ranges over 60+km from the get-go. *Second stage* As soon as troops are used to the new gun, with the next barrel change the L/52A1 will be installed. The same gun with a different closing mechanism and an enlarged pressure chamber, increasing the amount of P6 that can be employed and the velocity of the shell upon leaving the barrel - increasing the range to 68+ km. *Final stage - L/60* In the final stage the new L/60 barrel that is still under development will be installed, along with an even larger pressure chamber. - Rheinmetall is developing a version of their V-LAP ammo coated with some extra-hard material that will reliably withstand the high pressure (I assume from, again, from using bigger sticks of P6. The muzzle velocity will be further increased, resulting in a maximum range of .... 83km. More than a HIMARS standard M31 round.

Europe and Israel should go for a future rocket artillery system with various calibres and multi warheads, rockets from 110mm to 254mm and a extended range rocket in the 324mm with 300km and a seperate TBM tactical ballistic missile with a 800km range and a maximum of 2800kg with supersonic reentry speed and a 650 or 700kg warhead to a 1000kg with diferent options and Galileo GPNS capable and INS. That was what is needed and a heavier helicopter for high endurance ground attack capability and finnaly a strategic bomber with supersonic speed with a 20 ton capacity and a 8000km range loaded, thats what Europe with Israel should be doing and corporating on big projects for the present and future for the defense of booth, great howitzer! This guy doesnt now what is talking the russians have a range of 70 km please give me a break even rocket assisted they dont have this range just propaganda, but the PZH already shoot targets at 67km confirmed. The russians say alot of bullshit, but this system is just enormous to big to deploy and to transport. Ukraine should open their eyes in Europe but still no investments, no pragmatism and a piece like that you cannot hide you better have a great range, but they should focus in Europe in a 127mm field howitzer to compete with Rússia D30 and other Russians weapons because i saw 155mm but no 76mm or 88mm and the 105 is great but we need something with some punch and the 127mm already have a logistics for amunnition and barrel manufecture and is a great size to weight and ranging in the 30km is a great adition to NATO arsenals that lacks a medium howitzer and a rapid light howitzer in the 76" to 88" mm with rapid fire and good fire power
