Managing a construction project requires great attention to detail, an immense amount of coordination and a clear understanding of what the project requires.
In fact, the physical construction is the last thing to take place - all projects start on paper first, in the form of design documents like drawings and specifications. So what happens when a contractor has a question before a project begins or while it’s underway?
It’s not quite as simple as calling up an Architect or Engineer and asking. Questions about design details or construction intent must be formalized in writing, as does the response.
That’s where the RFI comes into play. Let’s talk about what RFI’s are, what they’re used for and some best practices for utilizing them.

What Is An RFI?
RFI stands for Request For Information. These requests serve as official record of a question being asked, and the answer becomes part of official project documentation, just like what’s shown on a drawing or written in other documents.
Let’s explore the details of submitting RFIs and 7 construction RFI best practices!

Exactly. Contractors submit RFIs to designers in order to clarify questions or unclear info about the plans and specs they created for the project.
