Fell in love with it when it first came out as an LE, but of course missed out on it. Was able to get in on the 2022 batch (went with a salmon+BOR bracelet) and I enjoyed it greatly. Sold a Samurai that I fell out of love with to fund it and it was totally worth. A lot of other similar watches on say, Aliexpress use the same movement but the MR01 is the only one that pulls it off with just the right proportions and design. There's just something about the small case that really gets me. I do wish they contoured the case a little more so it wasn't so blocky, but it does give it some much needed presence too. The non-hacking bugs me when setting the time, but apparently Hangzhou already had so much trouble putting together a micro-rotor movement this small for this cheap that they couldn't manage to fit hacking in anymore. With this and the new 38mm Seiko 5KXes, us small watch enjoyers are eating real good these days.

I bought this as wedding watches with my wife in blue and salmon. She does not wear jewellery but I could convince her to get a watch. This one is special enough to stand out from the crowd and being a bit special without breaking the bank. I am surprised how good it looks in different situations. While it’s not a tool watch it’s not only for dressy situations. It’s perfectly fine to wear to the office. She also loves seeing the movement which is better looking than a Miyota or Seiko movement. It does rattle a bit and mine had an issue when we first got it. But Baltic quickly fixed it and it’s been keeping time very well. I agreed with you about the bezel but it has definitely grown on me and I find myself staring at the watch with a smile on my face every day I wear it. Just curious what straps you use with this? I struggle to find the exact right colour or texture and keep bouncing around. I would say that in addition to the beads of rice style, I do think a Milanese strap looks pretty good with this, but again... yeah... I do not find that the Salmon goes well with any of the browns. Am looking to play with some green, but it needs to have some texture otherwise I find that a clean fresh new leather watch strap just doesn't seem to want to fit with the more "vintage" aesthetic.

You hit the nail on the head - I was about to buy one last year, but the flat wide bezel prevented me. Either making the dial 1mm bigger, or rounding out the bezel (or stepping if you want to be pp5070 fancy) would have made this watch look a lot better. With these microbrands you're paying for the design, so something as obvious as this is a no-no.

I bought both the silver and the salmon. My biggest issue with these watches other than the microrotor being not only loud and a bit "sticky" and not smooth at winding (needing a bit more aggressive shaking), is that I do find that the lugs are a bit disproportionately wide. I am a "carpenter of children" so my understanding of design is a little bit limited, but I still do think if they narrowed the lugs a bit, the whole design would be just a little bit more elegant. It would create a bit more of a visual taper that to me would just make the whole case look a bit more elegant where as the lack of narrowing makes the whole case seem just a bit "fatter" like most of my patients with bowed legs. I just feel like the lug width for a 36 mm case should either be an 18mm or at least the dreaded 19 mm. Keep up the great work!

Very disappointed as I had some decent hopes about this. I would certainly save a bit more and buy from Longines if I was in the market for an entry level automatic watch.
@mybrainlikesthings8 ай бұрын
It can't always be about style, though, can it? Because style is just surface, with the same movements, and then you get like King Seiko, pumping out a dozen of the same-looking watches with just pigment variations in the dials. Assembly-line watches. That's one example, but I'm sure everyone can cite thousands of other instances of sameness. It is the path to boredom. That MR01 from Baltic has a micro-rotor. Amazing! And it appears to be regulated, which I don't recall you mentioning in the video. Does that make this a chronometer-like watch? If so, then the price makes this a remarkable and collectible item. Some people like Seiko's Dolce dress watches because they have high accuracy quartz movements that rate at +/- 5 seconds per year. For their price, which is similar to the MR01, that is an incredible achievement. High accuracy quartz isn't quick and easy to produce. I don't like how they look or feel, but what it does and what it accomplishes inside is what counts. EDIT: Nevermind. Turns out the movement in the MR01 is garbage and they should be ashamed for putting "regulated for 5 positions" right there on the bridge.

@@magnusbell5410 no, timekeeping was more than adequate. Often times, pulling the crown out would not allow me to change the time, pushing it back in was somewhat gummy and soft feeling, and turning the crown to adjust the hands wouldn’t do much until a certain point was reached and then the gears would mesh. I had heard similar stories from others and from what I hear Baltic is actually quite happy to take the watch in and go over it for warranty problems like this. I just didn’t have the patience to deal with it considering the time it would take to have it remedied.

Great video. One data point - there are masses of vintage watches available for well under $1000, let alone $5000, equipped with the finest micro-rotor movements ever made. E.g. Buren, Hamilton and Universal Genève. So personally I'll stick with vintage as the Baltic looks incredibly overpriced to me in comparison. I recently picked up a 60s Hamilton Intra-matic with the world's very first micro-rotor movememt for $200. Servicing and parts weren't cheap at another $250 but for me it's special to have the original genuine article. Oh and it's 14k solid gold, not stainless steel.
@100mexzhar

Good for you...what do we care...the 1960 intramatic was meant to be worn on ladies wrist due its dainty dimentions....the water resistance is none existing... has a plain boring dial. It has no display back to show off the movement.

Boxed sapphire will bump up the price considerably if they decide to put one because of the production cost and labor cost to fit the crystal, but a boxed mineral glass is still a better choice compared to hesalite. Hesalite has that vintage charm which fits the watch. Or they could have gone with a double domed sapphire crystal.

This looks like a great watch and I am sure it is because I bought another watch with the same movement for a lot less money which I think is also a great watch. Lobinni Interlaken. Please let me know if I am wrong and the movement is not the same or if the other aspects of the watch featured on this video has some other things that make it better for more money.
Great vid!
It's the Perfect first automatic watch you can gift your son with for his high-school graduation. Looking forward to read some reviews of this movement.

Just buy your son a Seiko, Tissot or Hamilton and not some fancy watch with a garbage chinese movement that cannot even be serviced…
I have the salmon dial version. Lovely watch. It’s a nice “his and hers” watch - my wife wears it on the beads of rice bracelet and I wear it on the green leather strap. Easy to change with the quick release bars.
I recently bought a 36mm Rolex Explorer and love it. This has now really switched me on to 36mm watches and how good they can look even on a reasonably large wrist. I will be trying to purchase a salmon dial on 1st June

Smaller Rolexes are the best. They already have a ton of presence anyway.
For this watch design, the size is really great, if they bumped it up I would not want more than a 38 mm.
What was cool was when you gave your wrist size in a totally non-snarky way. Not that I don’t have it memorized by now…
didn't realise how small it was until I saw it on your wrist
1:10 odd ticking going on there. Nice looking watch.

I love everything about the watch apart from the hesalite. 600-700 eur for a watch without a sapphire glass is a bit of a problem
@shutinwithaloupe would be a great burner for you
I bought both the silver and the salmon.
Please make a bigger case and lug width sapphire crystal manual wind!!!
I love my MR01, but it does run fast. No big deal to me as I just adjust it when needed. With the clarity of Hesalite and the contrast of the hands and numerals, legibility is excellent in all but the darkest of conditions. It looks classy in any social situation.
Is the movement rattly AF?
Excellent , informative, fun as always. And can you make up your mind what colour you prefer most? Say salmon 😂

Happy fresh owner of a silver dial on BOR bracelet. Mine is a Oct 22 pre-order, which arrived earlier this month. (Mid-May)
I agree: a beautiful watch for sure. And it isn't too small, I'm just (most likely) too big for it.
I am an owner of one. The only problem I saw with this design, is that sharp bezel edge. Any tiny hit,, will then be very visible.
I am a noob. Can you replace a 20mm leather strap with a 18mm on a watch that sized to fit a 20mm one? Or maybe 20 mm straps that progressively downsize to like 16mm at the tail and the buckle.

Out of the three colors, I most prefer the salmon one. This is a simple and elegant watch which has a beautiful movement.
As it carries a Chinese Guangzhou movement, I won't buy, as simple as that! I accept the 9015 or 9035 Miyotas, which are superb!!
I had this watch and sent it back 1 day after receiving it.. The quality is not there, it feels flimsy, you can hear the movement rattle, the bracelet felt cheap. Very disappointed as I had some decent hopes about this. I would certainly save a bit more and buy from Longines if I was in the market for an entry level automatic watch.
Turns out the movement in the MR01 is garbage and they should be ashamed for putting "regulated for 5 positions" right there on the bridge.
awesome Chinese movement. they have came along way since the 1950s.
Amazing video. Comprehensive but not overly long and boring. And yes, I own the MR01 and love it, and cannot recommend it highly enough.
Domed bezel would have been a winner
ah i miss the good old days where the men were men and they drank leaded gasoline. Now i just stick to drinking unleaded.
Why couldn’t it be sapphire 😢
Personally, I call them pitchfork hands.
my militado version looks just as nice
Patek Philippe 5000 or 6000s have the subdial as a mirror image to this one.
Stoked to finally hear your opinion on this. Loved the look of mine but eventually let it go because of a shoddy movement. I hope they continue to improve upon this great formula.

was it just inaccurate?
@ericleese4692
Жыл бұрын

@100mexzhar
8 ай бұрын
Good for you...what do we care...the 1960 intramatic was meant to be worn on ladies wrist due its dainty dimentions....the water resistance is none existing... has a plain boring dial. It has no display back to show off the movement.
Boxed sapphire will bump up the price considerably if they decide to put one because of the production cost and labor cost to fit the crystal, but a boxed mineral glass is still a better choice compared to hesalite. Hesalite has that vintage charm which fits the watch. Or they could have gone with a double domed sapphire crystal.
I had one of these before and pre ordered a June one in the Baltic shop in London. They are super nice for the price. I agree there is something odd with the bezel. It’s flat but not in a satisfying way.
ok but where TF do you buy Baltic watches ?

I put two bad scratches on my MR01 as soon as I got it. I couldn’t get them out with any of the common methods. Baltic won’t send me a crystal and wants I think 120 euros for me to send it back to them for a new crystal and service. I haven’t had the watch a year yet. These two scratches are so bad it leaves shadows on the dial. Horrendous to look at and horrible plan to fix.
Aquascape or bust.
The return of Hangzhou Chinese micro rotor movement. Seriously at this price point you can buy a lovely Seiko, a real watch
Does it actually work this time, or do the gears still not mesh properly, causing the movement to grind to a sudden halt?

customer service and QC are a suspect
As someone who has been collecting watches for more than 4 decades, I would say that the only thing that could make this perfect is if it were 34mm. That would complete the "retro" look and it would be perfect on my 7 1/2" wrist.
They are so small….
I bought two of these because I couldn't decide on the color. But upon receiving them I was immediately disappointed. The 36mm and thinness really was a turn-off on my 6.75" wrist. 36mm wouldn't be a problem but with the large bezel and case shape it just doesn't look right. My 37mm grand seiko has a much larger dial and feels so much better. This is truly one of those watches that is best in pictures or for a sub 6.5" wrist.
Really like that Salmon dial version, but way too small at 36mm. If they made a 39mm - 42mm, then absolutely.
