You are correct & you shouldn't feel guilty neither, because reparations for the descendants of humans bought & brought here from Africa for the purpose of them being conditioned & implemented for slavery here in America. Those reparations can only be made right through financial means. Individual Caucasian Americans like myself, we are not responsible for our country's evil past regarding slavery. But with that said, our country's leader's obsession with maintaining a " capitalistic, corporate financial greed is superior to individual American's morals & principles " type mindset & rule over us citizens American Citizens. Well now guess what, that has now backfired on them because now it should be no wonder that people whose ancestors were slaves here in America have adapted certain traits from our society leaders' mentality & now they actually want financial payment for the work & progress accomplished by slaves here in America during slavery. Of course, this reparation isn't even mentioning the suffering that their ancestors experienced. *The suffering that slaves experienced resulted in making slave owners very financially wealthy.* *This is why reparations are owed.* It is important that reparations are handled & done in a responsible & reasonable manner though. Our Gov owes this to African Americans. As far as American stating that they don't think it is fair that their tax dollars are being spent on these reparations is ridiculous in my opinion. Because when you think about how WE THE PEOPLE, We remain silent while allowing Our Nation's leaders to spend Our money on things such as secret GOV black projects, financial lawsuit settlements that are caused by law enforcement officers & state officials violating an American Citizen's Rights, & also other various reasons too. Which might I add, Some of those reasons for spending Our money regards them spending it on foreign affairs that have nothing to do with Us Americans. It is not on Us Americans of European decent to feel guilty or for Us to try & make right, when it comes to Our country's past concerning the evil that our founding fathers committed. That burden lies on the shoulders of Our Gov, they need to make this right & pay what they owe! While even though the sin of slavery was already in place here in America before the revolution war took place. In my opinion, that still doesn't excuse our founding father's sins when it comes to the evil that took place here in America regarding slavery. It took Our Nation's leaders here in America 89 years before they finally abolished slavery & in my opinion. Only then was We truly A Free Nation. Think about that for a sec. After 3 hundred & something years of being a slave. & Then 89 more years of slavery in a supposedly Free Nation.....after We The People won the Revolution War. Seriously, think about that for a sec. because @ginge210872, my friend, You are clearly missing the point on this issue here regarding reparations for slavery. It is an economic reparation due to the evil practice of slavery resulting in major progress in the development of our Nation & the due to the financial gains that were made by individuals who owned slaves here in America. *American *Intermediary* *Documentary* 07/04/2024 President Trump / Vice President Ramaswamy 2024 " OUR COUNTRY OUR CHOICE!!!! It would cause hyperinflation to the point of being totally worthless and kneecap 100% of people's economic hopes just to make 13% feel good temporarily. No amount would ever be considered "enough" and therefore it would be a perpetual money printing nightmare. Even if you "just" gave every black American $50,000 (which they would immediately complain isn't enough), you would instantly be printing $2.4 trillion. That's more than a 10% increase in the money supply. Doing this repeatedly would cause covid-levels of inflation over and over again until you end up with a Zimbabwe situation in which someone's entire 401(k) balance can now afford them a single trip to the grocery store.

Since color has nothing to do with human culture or behavior, they need to decide on which problems they prefer over the others. If someone doesn't agree, they need to explain how they aren't a race-hustler.

I suppose she could have worded it slightly better, but I was genuinely confused by so many comments similar to yours but not so clear in meaning. I would bet all the money I ever had that she meant "white people that support this because they feel guilt" because she said "the only people this will ever benefit" & _that is_ the only people that would benefit from reparations today. Obviously people that do not feel guilt would not benefit in any way & the people receiving it would not benefit in any real way.... Just as how people that are poor & win the lottery do not benefit from receiving all that money other than temporarily & are typically left worse off than before.

I've been saying something similar for a while now. the whole "Give a man a fish..." reference is spot on. Giving people a lump sum is not going to change their life (unless it's an unreasonably large sum). It might improves things short term, but it's not going to make any sort of fundamental change. If, and it's a big if, it's decided to give reparations the money should be put into trusts. If a person qualifies for reparations, they can draw from those trusts and use it to help pay for college (approved courses only) or training in a trade. This can actually have a real effect on someone's life and it could carry on to future generations. Teach the man to fish, don't just give him a fish.

I'm not guilty. Why should I be? My family didn't come to Canada until just after WW1. Never had slaves. OTOH, Thomas Sowell points out that the descendants of US slaves have higher living standards than their relations who remain in Africa. Maybe the descendants of the slaves should pay the descendants of those who remained in Africa?

Just look in Canada and the indigenous pay offs. Young indigenous people are dissuaded from seeking higher education by elders becoming purposeless, seeking escapism to numb their minds from thinking anything beyond what they are told to think. I grew up in/beside this community and consider many family, and many have spoken to me freely about this as well as what we can see for ourselves. I live in a town of 1800, and 6 nations are represented. I speak with confidence and love as this is not ok to handcuff a mighty people like that making them dependant.

I want reparations, Britain borrowed money to buy all the slaves and release them, we only stopped paying this loan back in 1980's. When are all these slaves going to pay us back for releasing them ?

What about reparations from black people for the lives of those who fought to earn their freedom? How about all of the Union soldiers and their families don't black people in particular owe them a tremendous debt... If not money then at least gratitude?

They've had reparations since The Great Society was implemented in this country in the 1960s and she's right it hasn't helped in the way it was intended. Call us even and let's get on with our lives.

so... why were slave owners in the U.S. given 'reparations' for the loss of their slaves after the civil war ?

Should the descendants of the Masi and Benin city pay reparations to the African descendants they enslaved? Or the Arabs and Berbers owing reparations to the Europeans they enslaved? The whole thing is a grift.
