Spain was economically devastated after its Civil War. It could not even feed itself. It could not equip or supply an army. There was no way it could enter WWII. The only thing it could supply to Germany was warm bodies. Even with that, Germany could not afford to equip or supply a major influx of Spanish troops. Franco wasn't brilliant, but he was practical. Even before German catastrophes, Franco could see Germany was not the wave of the future.

@rabbitholesinc I was taught in a California Central Valley company town educational system specifically who was smarter, better informed, and culturally "better than I," even though I saw thru that BS, as for you #getagrip You sound as though you slept thru school. Your take on education is stilted and wanting. Kids are brighter than you'd know, and they can grasp a hell of a lot. I was parented by an intelligent, more Indian than not grandmotherer, in a quite well considered economical manner, and not a constant rattle in my ear about what I could very well learn on my own. US upbringing means selecting, chewing and force feeding parental misinfo, social disinfo, bias, neurosis, self aggrandizing cultural lies, and general bs at children and then later having to wonder "what we did wrong to deserve such a child." Your society is very very sick.🍷🥱🐈‍⬛

For the good or for the bad he maybe has been the most influential person in the history of the country. Spain was threatened with biological warfare if they entered WWII. This was revealed in 1959 by Ralph Ingersoll, a noted industrialist. We were going to stimulate the fruit fly population to hatch early and destroy their agriculture. Re 45:30, if you study Ronald Rogowskiʼs 1989 book "Commerce and Coalitions" you might discover that Francoʼs idea is potentially less absurd than presented here. Rogowski demonstrated that both American capitalists and European workers gained from trade and thus possessed a cested interest in an economic globalisation that threatened to (and after World War II and especially the 1973 oil crisis, did) eliminate the influence of the ecclesiastical and landowning powers who formerly ruled Europe and whose support drove Franco to power. Rogowski is in fact not emphatic enough about how whole groups - the Catholic Church in Europe, blacks in the United States - lose from expanding trade.

What was the capitol insurrection then? Trump certainly tried to become a dictator! We all know he admires dictators. The Spanish have a word for that - autogolpe. Now, like everything Trump has ever done, it had an element of the farcical & the slapdash, but in the end it was exactly what it appeared to be - an attempt to overturn his election loss by force

I used to hear about how bad Strosner was in Paraguay. Dictator this, dictator that! Then one night in the middle of a blizzard, I was stranded in a hotel unable to go anywhere else. I met a nice couple from Paraguay and the topic came up. I realized how throwing the word "dictator" around, whether true or not, puts in our feeble minds that it's all bad, 100%. The couple said to me that evening that during his reign, they were safe and never had to fear criminals. Really put things into perspective for me.

Franco's dictatorship was quasi-totalitarian. The Falange had its own ideology. He shared with the Fascists and Communists the objectives of eliminating anti-social and ideologically subversive elements, an excellent objective, and _autarchy,_ or national economic self-sufficiency, a worthy goal but impracticable in the long term and impractical in the short to medium term. Still, Franco and the Falange had the right idea.
