He's a spear user most of his attacks are designed to catch you rolling defensively, if you roll into him aggressively he'll wiff all of them. Also you can jump over his swipe attacks.

You can hug his left side on his 3 hit combo and chip him while he's swinging just stay on his left side and watch his jump attack if dodged correctly he leaves a massive opening on himself phase 2 is easier to telegraph stay on his left side dodge when you need to he dies. Also summoning in this fight is a liability they die your stuck with a buffed boss that's why 90% of ppl struggle with him. You can summon an npc for a quest in the arena but you gotta be quick sense the fight is started messmer bypasses the buff 😊

My biggest problem with the dlc is most main bosses are specifically designed to feck solo midroll players I died dozens of times to messmer without any progress, than i slapped on the winged tear (which gives you 3.5x max weight for 3 mins basically guaranteeing a lightroll) and got him to 25% first try, not knowing any of his p2 moves just because of lightroll

Dude when you compared it to Sekiro and Lies of P it clicked. I didnt like either of those games. But now it makes sense. I played the base Elden Ring game so many times and Ive also done a sl1 two months prior and loved every minute but this dlc i havent had any fun at all. This is a guy who spent 20 hours on Malenia having a blast but yet Renalla was just annoying. This video makes my feelings make sense. The way they changed the dlc from the base game, Is all ways i dont like from other soul titles i didnt like. I thought i was going insane, I even did a few boss fights the week before release. Its crazy how different it feels to me. Thank you for making me be able to make sense of my feelings outside of "games too hard" or "get gud". I think im going to take a few days away from the game and this weekend maybe try and grab a shield and try to really change the way I defend. Maybe pick up that physic you mentioned and try to adjust to make the game enhoyable again Bc i want to love this so much, its my favorite game of all time but so far im just not feeling it which is super depressing.

Good take, I enjoy the game and I like the freedom it gives you to explore the open world and grind / farm the new items and use summons for bosses, but I'm taking it easy no rush, no need to get frustrated. I'll just explore or shut it down😉. It definitely seems to rely more heavily on stance breaking and heavy attacks. The dodging agile builds get wrecked so easy for the smallest mistake like mine, but ill figure it out. I think staggering is a dumb mechanic, the critical hit animation follow up, doesn't make any sense 90% of the time 🤷(Even in a crowed of enemies). And I'm not a fan of the big bonk heavy builds .... But maybe I will have to use that play style... There are definitely some bug fixes and performance, stuttering and random massive FPS drop issues, they need to be handling asap in my opinion, that are definitely not beneficial when it comes to difficulty with dodging agile builds. I never had performance issues like this in the base game release (max settings smooth FPS), but for whatever reason, the DLC performance is trash for me so far (they said old saves and ray tracing, and they fixed it... not, and I could run it with max RT before so…). It doesn't matter if I lower all or some graphic setting RT on or off, it just goes randomly from 60 to 0-5 FPS and you hope you don't die in a fight when that happens....

Personally I have experienced none of the issues you brought up. I work a full work schedule and my only challenge run to my name is a SL1 no magic Dark Souls run. I am running a Rogiers rapier and a nobles slender sword (both of which got their poise damage nerfed). I still am finding time to attack and causing plenty of enemy's guards to break. Spend time exploring, use mechanics such as stealth and jump attacks, use your ashes of war, break out a shield from time to time, and the dlc feels like a manageable challenge.

  • @chaozgaming8565

This feels like Breath of the Wild... In terms of exploration- Ok hear me out... In BotW, you can go straight to the final boss if you're good enough. But if you wanna get stronger, you're encouraged to explore around and gear up properly. In the DLC, you're suddenly really weak unless you explore around to find things that make you stronger. GRANTED... I have yet to really sink my teeth into the DLC. My one gripe with Base Elden Ring, and I can see it... Is what I'm gonna call the "Bloodborne Effect". It's forcing players into a specific playstyle, where you wanna dodge roll effectively and try to attack fast. I dont really like this because Elden Ring still has a methodical combat, but the devs really keep pushing it to be fast like in bloodborne when, realistically, the player isn't fast like the Bloodborne Hunter. I think the most crippling mechanic for Elden Ring, if it's trying to be fast like Bloodborne, is Equip Load. I dont like the fact that poise only really refers to "Hyper Armor" instead of really reducing your stun. Crazy idea, you think Elden ring would be a lot better if there was no equip load? Bloodborne doesn't have it because the point is to be fast and dodgy in that game. Your dodge and I-Frames would always be the same regardless of gear you wore.

    1) I don't think most are. There are exceptions, but so far I have killed the majority of bosses I've come across in 2-3 attempts. I have yet to fight some of the hardest bosses from what I've heard, but the majority of bosses are very doable within just a few attempts. 2) Even if you aren't beating dlc bosses in the first few attempts, THIS IS NOT A NEW THING. My first time touching DS3 after playing and beating DS1 involved me dying 26 times to Ludex Gundyr. Same thing happened when switching to Sekiro. Every time fromsoft updates their combat system, players are going to feel the learning curve. Elden Ring isn't Dark Souls, the combat is updated with more options than ever before and as such bosses have received an overhaul too. Its ok to die a few times before figuring out a fight, and its even better to take adequate time to explore and level so that when you inevitably try again you find it comparable to the base game difficulty.

Those Lion dudes at the end of the last level are a perfect example. They are bosses but they respawn. They just have like 10K hp instead of 50k. Heavy armor, fingerprint, and a heavy weapon with Stamp: Upward Cut are the only reliable ways I can beat them. This is NG+3. The Frost one is by far the hardest. If you don't have enough poise and robustness, he just keeps attacking and poising through everything you try. (yeah you can cheese it from the room above but what fun is that?) That is the point though, being able to beat stuff isn't the same as having FUN while doing it. Stamp Upward Cut gives you insane poise and damage reduction, most of the time guaranteeing you will connect. (sometimes the Frost Lion just keeps attacking and doesn't give a shit, and still staggers you out with 133 poise and a colossal.) Even slightly mistiming Stamp Upward Cut and you are screwed. So on high NG+ levels against the elite enemies you are back to DARK SOULS 3 style gameplay. (that ash of war was a skill in that game)
