I loved the way u described 'nepotism' XD. A good college gives u a edge, not getting into a good college doesnt mean the end of one's life but a start of a new journey, where u gotta work harder, i sometimes do feel that if i dont get into a reputed college, it will make me work hard, since opportunities wouldnt be too easy to get. Once we have evrything , we take it for granted . We have one life , why not live it to the fullest and explore evry bit of it. Of course money is important to sustain oneself, and returns on investing so much on education , those parents shouldwatch '3 idiots' once more for sure! the magic dialogue of working hard, success piche piche aa jayegi!

I also had a friend, who herself was from IITB and she married the guy from IIT, and was that guy abusive, he and his family harassed her for dowry 😳. It just opened my eyes at how flashy name tags do not build character of people. I hope such institutes also build character.

Yes I agree. Many of the students who fill these ivy league schools are more students who work hard or parents pushed them to be successful rather than students who are absolutely geniuses. They might have higher sat scores but that dosent make them really more intelligent. Just means their reading or math skills are better. They might be more well rounded and have extra Curriculars. But eventhough they are bright and study hard, they also miss out on everyday knowledge that other people obtain.

Idk....I might be wrong but I oppose the point where u said u get selected because of ‘brand name’ when u go for a job interview or something. I mean obv that’s true but u have also worked extremely hard to get into it. It’s like an achievement to get into Harvard cause Harvard doesn’t select anyone and everyone. Obv it’s not the greatest achievement of all and the goal of your life but it still IS important. U have worked hard to get into it and u deserve it. There might be many more people compatible than the person in Harvard but Harvard has its own uniqueness and the most imp of all is that u passed off with flying colours from Harvard which has hard competition.

The reason why all those students who come in with grandiose ideas and backgrounds don't go on to change the world is because its a lot easier convincing Harvard's acceptance panel that you will change the world than actually to do that and take the risk in real life. Which is why graduating students just take the safe job. Alot of the skills and backgrounds that harvard students have are not really useful in real life but impresses a college board.

Oh now...be fair about the rats at Harvard! These rodents had to apply for admission the same as anything else at Harvard. It is common to overhear one rat asking another, "So, what was your best time running Professor X's maze? How many food pellets were you rewarded with?" And of course every rat (though they would never admit it) aspires to be asked to join a Finals Club. The crumbs that fall to the floor at your average Finals Club bash are enough to feed a family of fieldmice for the whole winter!

I dispute your statement that Harvard students are not much different from their counterparts at other colleges & universities. Obviously, they're much better academically than their rivals elsewhere because their average SATs are 1500 and GPAs are 3.9-4.0 except for the Ivies and a couple of others like MIT, Stanford, etc. But MIT is a different experience because you're up against students who have won Olympiad medals in biology, chemistry, informatics, mathematics, physics, etc. and will easily develop an imposter syndrome when you're unable to beat them for the A grades in the same courses as them!!!

There's a lot more that goes into a 1500 sat or 3.9 GPA then just being the best student a lot has to do with opportunity Certainly Harvard recognizes that not every high school student has the same opportunity and admits students even with a 2.9 or 950 sat
