This was such an informative video!! Just out of curiosity, what are some examples of the most competitive clubs (the ones that take the whole semester to try out for)? Why are they so popular?

I’ve got a few more questions! 1. Are clubs in Harvard compulsory? Does everyone have to attend/be a part of at least one club? + Does it cost money to attend/regularly be a member of a club? 2. Is signing up for classes really competitive? Do you have to rush to grab a spot in a certain class? 3. Is it easy to experience imposter syndrome in Harvard? 4. How do you sign up to get paid to be a member of a Harvard club? Are there any specific requirements? + Do all clubs offer pay or is it only a select few? 5. Which house did you end up in? You mentioned in the video that you are really happy with your housing because it’s a nice and newly renovated building, so it got me really curious hahah Sorry for the bombardment of questions! I just got really curious because you’re the first person in a Harvard video I’ve seen that is really honest and open, so I thought you’d be the best person to ask :) Thanks!

    1. Clubs are completely optional, so you do not have to join any if you don't want to, however, I think everyone I've met here is a part of at least one club. It does not cost money to be a member of any clubs that I've participated in. As far as I'm aware, the only clubs that have fees are the social clubs, which are basically just frats/sororities. 2. Some classes are competitive and you have to write an application or go through a lottery system in order to get in, though that only applies to courses with small class sizes. Typically, its more common for humanities classes to be competitive because they often keep the class sizes very small. For large lecture courses, any one can enroll automatically. Out of the 12 classes I've taken here so far, I've only had to apply to two of them, so most classes don't require applications if you're in STEM or social science.

    3. Yes, I think a lot of people experience imposter syndrome, so you won't be alone if you feel that way. Usually imposter syndrome fades -- once you become used to being a Harvard student, it will just feel natural to be attending the school. 4. The sign up process for getting paid by clubs varies depending on the club, but they typically will email out an application and you will have to submit proof of your financial need such as tax documents or your financial aid packet. Most clubs do not pay their members, it's only the really big clubs that earn revenue which can pay their members (e.g. The Crimson, which is a large student newspaper). Plus, only students who qualify for work-study are able to get paid by these clubs. 5. I ended up in Lowell House, which is definitely considered one of the best possible houses to be placed in. It is newly renovated and has a great location!!

Hi Elsie! Did you apply early action for Harvard? If you did, do you think applying early has its benefits? I’m a senior right now so I’m contemplating if I should apply early or not haha. I’ve been binging ur vids for inspiration this whole week😂

I did not apply early. I applied regular decision to all my schools since I wanted to have as many options as possible in order to ensure that I could choose an affordable option. However, applying early can certainly give you a small boost and I know that many people I've met here had gotten in through early action.

I think that they figure that most students will be eating off campus. You were talking I think, mainly about dorms. What about students renting apts. or houses and being able to cook and shop? What kind of cost are we looking at? Isn't perception deception in how many people view the name of Harvard?

Hi Elise! I was watching a lot of videos of how to appeal to colleges, but I’m still confused about how I can find out what things a specific college values more (ex: some colleges focus more on community service while others focus more on research experience). Where can I find out the priorities of a college and ensure that I’m appealing to their needs?

In the Ivy League, Econ is a throw away class. I worked my @ss off in engineering and so did my now famous billionaire roommate. I got straight A’s in my eight econ classes, but I would have NEVER considered it a worthy major. If you don’t finish summa there’s a major problem with you. BTW I turned down Harvard. But that’s just me. Harvard University …. a ton of intellect and talent, but very little passion. The only two Ivies that don’t outwork you are Yale and Brown. Well at least you’ll have your arrogance for the rest of your life.
