Dude, the real reason is simply because Hikaru offered, but Nepo didn't. It's not even a custom to shake hands with other winners at such a ceremony, Hikaru didn't shake hands with Nepo when he walked up for second place either. Nepo was looking at the audience when Hikaru offered Gukesh a handshake, and by the time he noticed, Gukesh had already taken his place on the stage. Gukesh didn't snub Nepo, Nepo didn't snub Gukesh

BUT the position for black player is very sharp which means in order to remain neutral black must find the ONLY move in order to maintain this equality, on the other hand white could play 5 different moves that are fairly obvious to maintain the equality or push. In this scenario even if White calls the arbiter and say both player gets 5 minutes to think the Black player benefits more because he needs that extra time to find the only move a lot more then the white player needing extra time because he doesn’t need to find just one move.

@@premojha979 You clearly didn't get my comment. I said at that point Nepo was COMPLETELY WINNING when this happened (the position was no way equal) and it's an easy conversion. Plus Nepo has way more time than Hari, so he can easily call the arbiter and Hari won't have anything to benefit from that time because he was completely loosing. It's later Hari was able to equalize the position because Nepo blundered, and he was pissed at Hari for that.

@@backslash8874 I agree. Nepo’s behaviour was absolutely unacceptable. My point was never made to justify Nepo’s behaviour. I’m not sure why you extrapolated that. Nepo is a well known cry baby this isn’t the first time he has done this. My point obviously was that calling the arbiter is not always a reasonable option (this doesn’t excuse Nepo’s behaviour in any case) and the defense that both players get to think is not reasonable because not both players need to evaluate their moves in the same way. Even if a position is objectively equal according to an engine some of the moves are much harder to find for humans and so practically it’s difficult to hold especially in time trouble. Giving more time in these instances to one player provides significantly better chances for them to not blunder. Once again I am not defending Nepo. I am not advocating for him or his behaviour. He even made a comment about Alireza ruining candidates to Fabi on the last round of candidates by losing to Gukesh in round 13. The dude is a massive manchild.

Based on the logic of your so-called "scientific reaction time" explanation. This would mean anyone playing blitz who knocked over pieces and quickly pressed the clock would be 'forgiven' as a mere 'accident'. Because its blitz so all players would just move any piece and press the clock in less than o.5 seconds. To be fair for your stupid theory..you will need to take sample and median or average time taken by all blitz players from moving their pieces to pressing the clock. And do this sampling in time scramble mode for example when players have less than 10 seconds left. If it turns out the average is around your "reaction time" then why doest FIDE just abolish this rule? You mean fide ignores the science? Also why we still see honest players managed to react by fixing the piece first..even though this cost them to lose on time? Its all about your pre-meditated intention. Harekrishna had a dirty mindset in his mind in the first place..so he is basically set to move n press thr clock as quickly as possible REGARDLESS of whether he knocked over the piece or not..thats why it took 264 milloseconds...its because he already got this dirty mindset. This video fell for the genetic fallacy..failed for chicken and egg problem..by taking the 264 as the given..well it is not..the 264 is the effect..the cause is the earlier 'dirty mindset' that nepo was well aware and angry about.

You got it...and its exactly the reason harry played dirty in that split second. Harry natural reaction as experienced and well respected grandmaster would have been instantly fixing the piece and only then pressed the clock. But in this specific case, harry intentionally did the opposite because harry also realized he only had 2 seconds left.. Imagine what would harry do, if he had 20 seconds left instead? My bet he would have fixed the bishop first.

He didn’t even react to the bishop falling over since the average human reaction time is 273ms and the time between the bishop falling and hari pressing the clock was like 260ms. In that moment he didn’t even have the time to think about it. Not everyone is a scumbag but Ofc if you want to think in a very negative and cynical manner then you can. Harikrishna is known as a classy guy who doesn’t do these things Nepo on the other hand has some history of behaving like a man child and being a cry baby.

@@premojha979 264 is wrong logic...the explanation confused between chicken and egg..ie genetic fallacy. The 264 is the effect and not the cause. Law of cause and effect. The cause comes first. Harry is playing dirty because he already had this dirty mindset: he would just move n press the clock REGARDLESS of whether or not he accidentally knocked over the piece. Yes the 'knocking' part was aaccidental. But the 'regardless continuebpressing' the clock was not accidental. It was his 'intentional personsl choice'...264 was the result of this 'choice'. Other clean and honest player would have reacted by fixing the bishop first..n only then pressed the clock..resulting in maybe 1.5 second duration rather than 264.millisecond..now u get it? 264 explanation is bogus and logical fallacy. Confusing between chicken and the eggs.

To people blaming Ian, have you considered how the game would have went had the other player not dropped his piece or adjusted it on his time? Would the result be different? If you think so, that is your answer. You are blaming Ian for being upset over something that the other player took advantage of and should have been a part of the game. The other player took advantage, intentional or not of it and with only three seconds it was a factor.
