Mike Maddux as a pitching coach is very underrated. He got the Rangers to the World Series in 2010-2011, the Red Sox in 2018, the Nationals went to the World Series a year after Maddux left, and now again with the Rangers in 2023.

Im super proud of my Rangers. However I think it was definitely a little more then just good hitting. It starts with acquiring Seager and Semien. Then Getting the Manager that beat us in 2010. Then aquiring the starting pitching staff that was way better then year prior. Also we did have a all star pitcher Eovaldi that we acquired as well. Both those pick ups a lone did not account for the seasons Jung and Heim had that elevated the infield immensely. And then Carter coming in towards the end of the season and then just being total rock star in the post season. It was a lot more then just the hitting.

Nice! The Rangers' have two guys over the hitting program. Tim Hyers (who they stole away from the Red Sox) is the hitting coach, and Donnie Ecker (who was renowned for his unorthodox approaches to hitting when he was the hitting coach in San Francisco) is the offensive coordinator. They worked together to implement an overall hitting philosophy - the one that Willie Calhoun infamously derided after he left the team because he was, and I quote, "a line drive hitter, not a home run hitter" - that they then tailored to each individual hitter to bring about an overall hitting machine that will only be even better next year. They deserve all the credit in the world for the job they've done helping to turn the franchise around!

The amazing thing people don't talk about is how the bullpen other than in Game four of the ALCS didn't fall apart. In game 5 of the World Series, Bochy used Josh Sborz for over 2 innings since he was doing so well. He was the unsung hero in that playoff series. After blowing 33 saves the WORST in the regular season, the bullpen kept it together for the most part in those close games and won it for the Rangers.

Even in Game 4, Bochy put in the less reliable guys in a blowout situation to save the high leverage arms for the next day. Until they gave up enough runs that he had to put in Leclerc to stop the bleeding

@@harmonicpies luckily Texas scored enough runs, but still in the end when it counted they got it done especially on the road. They still are going to have shore down the bullpen in the off season. You can't bull that many leads, but that's why Bruce Bochy is the manager and Chris Young is the GM who will shore up the bullpen next season.

Once I heard about the rangers organization hiring Bruce Bochy, I knew we had a chance to go all the way. But to do it in the first year? It’s incredible how our (Bruce) manager was able to direct a team, and to put them in a position to beat teams. That we couldn’t do before, and to play small ball. To hit line drives, to hit grounders. Is what got this team a trophy. As soon as the postseason started. I never thought it will be an a roller coaster ride. This was truly a memorable one in 2023. Now we have a team to dethrone those “cheaters” down south. Are you ready Astros: Hera is the pitching you will be facing Degrom Eovaldi Dunning Montgomery Gray Just remember Astros, you only have 1 trophy in your mantle. Cheaters never win…..

It's important to note that, during the Rangers struggles, the bullpen blew most of those games. There was a stretch where the bullpen blew 11 out of 11 losses in a row. Imagine having a lead in 11 of those games and losing it. The bullpen has the record for the most blown saves in MLB HISTORY. That's incredible. The starting pitching, however, was top 5 in all of MLB, and that's even factoring in Martin Perez' 5.0 ERA, who was pulled from the rotation at the trade deadline. Bochy was able to shorten the bullpen in the postseason, hiding the really bad arms that had cost them so many regular season games.

I agree with your premise that offense propelled the Rangers. Timely hitting was key. However I think two other reasons pushed them over the top. Timely pitching (starting and bullpen) as well as no errors in the WS. Defense was near the top in the regular season and the tops in the playoffs.

While I agree with a lot of the things you said, the reason they won the W.S. was Bruce Bochy. He was able to get this team to work together and focus on what they needed to do. He's a master strategist. Yes, our hitting was great and vastly improved from the year before, but our bullpen, which was pretty bad during the regular season, turned it on when needed. Game 5 was the perfect example. Nathan wasn't that great, but Bochy trusted in him, and he ended up getting out of trouble in 5 of the first 6 innings, to match what Galen was doing. In the bottom of the 7th, with Texas up 1-0, he trusted Chapman enough to pitch him. Every Ranger fan cringes when Chapman takes the mound because you have no idea what Chapman you're going to get. He got out of the inning with a 1-0 lead and then the bats exploded in the 9th. I've been a diehard Rangers fan for nearly 45 years, and I will say this. Without Bochy, Texas won't even make the playoffs in 2023. I can't be prouder of the Rangers.

The "Real" reason they won the World Series is because they traded Adrian Gonzalez. Back in 2006, Jon Daniels traded Adrian Gonzalez along with Chris Young to the Padres for Adam Eaton and Akinori Otksuna. Had that trade never been made then maybe Chris Young would not have crossed paths with Bruce Bochy and Chris Young used that connection this past offseason to convince Bochy to come out of retirement and manage the Rangers.

Everybody talks about how the Rangers pitching came together for the playoffs--which is true. But no one talks about the formerly great pitching of the opponents who were trashed by the Rangers hitting. To wit: They beat Zach Gallen, Cy Young candidate They beat Framber Valdez (twice), Verlander, and Javier (Astros) They beat Bradish, Kremer, and Rordiguez (Orioles) They beat Eflin and Glasnow (Rays) That, folks, is remarkable. So were Eovaldi (5-0) and Montgomery (3-1), but I think we ought to give props to Gray and Heaney, who each won a World Series game with stellar pitching that surprised many people.

More reasons: The Rangers won ALL 11 Away games during the post season, that's 11 straight games--Unmatched in baseball history. Second: They had ZERO errors in the post season. Third: They regrouped after losing the Division Championship on the last day, losing 1-0 in Seattle, forcing them to be Wild Card and flying cross-country to Tampa. They won game 1, 2, on to Baltimore, winning 2 and going home, winning the 3rd, going to Houston, where they won 2. Lost all 3 in Texzs, but swept Houston AGAIN, in Houston. Won all road games in Arizona. Fourth: Each game the Rangers scored first, they won. Fifth: Jose Leclerc and Josh Sborz.

When they got to the postseason they were pitching amazingly, The Rays only scored 1 run in the Wildcard round and I can think of at least 3 shutouts in the postseason off the top of my head. The young guys they have Jung, Carter, to include siemen , Seager, adolis, plus they will call up Wyatt Langford future MVP next year to go in the outfield with Garcia and Carter. Then Scherzer, Evoldi will be back, degrom will be healthy by postseason with time under his belt. They sign hader in the off-season plus retain Monty. So the post season rotation will be Degrom, Evoldi, Scherzer, and Monty for game 4 😂😂. Then you have hader, leclerc, and sborz coming out the pen. Oh man welcome to the decade of the Rangers!
