After Emperor Palpatine spoke with Imperial Security Bureau Director Colonel Wulf Yularen, the P.O.R.D. or the public order re-sentencing directive was announced. What seems like an effort to crack down on increased Rebel activity, is actually far more sinister.

I don't say this casually - Andor is next-level Star Wars. The story-crafting, the character development, the attention to detail. I don't believe we've ever seen anything quite like it. And while I don't think that everything going forward in the franchise needs to be made in the same mold, this is really, really good.

It feels more grounded in reality. We’re seeing a guy getting caught up fast in a situation he didn’t intend to become part of having a run in with police while at a bar, trying to move a hot item follow up with a bank robbery and then trying to lay low. No Jedi no sith just normal people in multiple alphabet agencies hunting down a dude on the run. To the poster that said it’s mature sci fi that’s spot on. Fun detail for episode 7 of Andor - the last sound effect is a jail cell door slamming shut. The last two scenes are Cassian getting sentenced, and Syril stuck in the Bureau of Standards job. The thing I love the most about Andor, is that it's not afraid to let important characters die, there's rarely plot armor, similar to rogue one but a bit less movie like
5:10 World Devastatorts in a nutshell. At least Dark Empire Palpatine knew how to attack with little to no real resources.
I've really been enjoying how Andor has taken Star Wars back to the core of what the Original Trilogy was. Lucas has stated many times that the Empire was meant to be a damning commentary on the US during the Vietnam Era. Even said Palpatine was based on Nixon. So seeing Andor continually go for the throat with commentary about the US, like with this, is great. While the US has done it for different reasons [Antebellum economy turning into our modern prison labor economy due to Southern sympathizers shafting Reconstruction], we do the same thing. Mass inarceration for profit, for slave labor, is how our economy thrives. If abolished, our economy would collapse. Andor really gets Star Wars, and what the themes and imagery of the OT really meant.

Makes sense. Clones were child soldiers, whether or not the grew quickly or not. They had no childhood and were bred to die. The Republic using this army was inhumane, criminal, and fascistic. That's why even the nicest Jedi that treated the clones well still have very little respect from me because they were okay with a Clone Army to begin with. The only good Jedi were the ones who didn't go to war.
When you paused the assembly line, it looked like they where building droids like K2S0. could Andor reprograme a newly assembled droid, one without safety protocols in place to help break him out the prison???

Great video. The whole ‘human (& non-human) capital’ is lifted directly from Nazi Germany (like most of the Empire). Germany quickly outstripped its internal production capacity as wave after wave of able-bodied German men were sent off to the front lines, so they turned to slave labor from the conquered territories. Timeghost’s WW2 channel has some great episodes covering this in their War Against Humanity series. Also, because all sci-fi is derivative of itself the Imperium of Man from Warhammer 40,000 is another fascist entity that spends human capital at an egregious rate.

@@kenle2 i have... They back up what I said. Robert Conquest created the death camp narrative as a theory as to what happened to millions of missing people in demographic estimates. Now that we have the official records it looks like many we assumed died in the camps may have been citizens who died in other ways outside the camps... A few people have noted that when someone was sent to gulag their families were often retaliated against. Fired, kicked out of housing, their wwii era ration cards taken. This is pretty much a death sentence. Also; I have some family accounts. I had uncles who went to the gulag who I knew / met and great grandfather. 8 relatives in total. All lived through it... Ps Hundreds of thousands did die in the camps. Not the multimillions we used to think. The camps existed for slave labor not to systematically eliminate people.
Looks like Andor will be working on Imperial security droids, which may be where he connects with K-2S0 and may be instrumental in his escape. On a side note, what the heck was Palpatine's end goal with all this? Just plain nihilism to destroy the galaxy and control everything to death?

When de facto control of the entire galaxy (or just the politically and economically important parts of it) isn't an end in itself ... You are probably looking too hard for an answer that's already pretty obvious.
@Agent_A_Graham
Жыл бұрын
Palpatine is one of many politicians that lobby and seek unlimited power. The rich funded Palpatine too. Palpatine just won the game for a while, and of course like real life capitalist politicians, seek endless wealth despite the earth being destroyed from it. Billionaires have everything, things that aren't even needed, like yachts and planes and cars and mansions, they seek more and more and do so by punishing the poor and ravaging the earth. We saw how Andor came from a small tribe that was being subjugated during the Clone War, and the Clones occupying places for the already corrupt facistic Republic. Palpatine and all who support him just want control for the sake of it.
While I agree with you, there is one part of Palps plan that you might be missing. Suffering. Sith thrive of the suffering and pain. They derive strength and power from negative emotions and hate. Palpatine is intentionally increasing the misery of the galaxy. Perhaps it has to do with some Sith ritual or design he is trying to fufill... but it clearly an intentional choice to make as many people suffer as much as possible... it always seemed to be part of the imperial model, that no one except the guy at the top understands. One theory? By increasing suffering you make the emergence of a new jedi order less likely. The darker the galaxy, the more brightly the light of the Jedi will shine, making it easier to track them down. He has been obsessed with ending the order permanently so perhaps what seems like malfeasance by the emperor is part of that obsession?
From those trailer shots Iam pretty sure they are making those K-security droids, or parts for them. Would give him a chance to pick up his cool buddy. I mean, they did just shoved those droids in the show on screen to make everyone go 'ooh yeah he had one of those in the movie!', Iam sure they won't leave us hanging with that ;) xD

Speaking of Starship Troopers, one can elaborate that it was the Federation's militaristic regime that lead to war and not vice versa. Bugs just happened to be an ideal enemy. Remember that the Federation had already been at an undeclared war with the Bugs prior to the asteroid attack. Judging by the news reports from within the movie It seems this war was on Bugs' soil.

Hi friends, have you ever think in the way out? I was thinking, with your plastic plate and your companion plate as well as the clothes, one can make a pair of improvised boots. Where the plates are the basis envolved in clothes that also are fixing your feet there... Perhaps the companions without shoes can stand over the working benches and do not get fried during the initial moves of a breaking out attempt. Another thing is, in case all levels try to escape at once, or to take control of their levels at once, then the guards cannot fired all levels at onces, they will blow the electric system, because a single level already stop the electricity general system, so all levels at once may fried the general electric circuit.

Don't forget that Palpatine is a Sith. Part of the reason for the intentional oppression and corruption, even at the expense of efficiency and detriment of the Empire itself, is the actual oppression and corruption. Such cruelty and brutality strengthens the Dark Side, which in turn strengthens Palpatine. Unlike many villains, Palpatine is well aware that he's evil, and revels in it. He's not an inept leader. He knows exactly what he's doing.
Where the footages of illum carrier are from ?
Above all economic practicality, Palpatine, as a Sith Lord, feasts upon & thrives over the galaxy’s collective anger, hate & pain. His ultimate issue: being able to control all that suffering, halting it from becoming a legitimate reckoning. His & their hubris was his downfall.
A prediction. I suspect that Luthen Rael keep's handling will be put to use at some point, probably violently. I think this because of the amount of scenes that it keeps appearing in.
Kinda puts facilities like the star forge and simular automated mass production facilities into a new perspektiv
Other than the Plaguis book that shows Palpatine training and learning, they never showed him in a light where you could relate to him or anything. But reading about him and his absolute hunt for power, his plans within plans, within plans.

You always assume that Palpatine is in the business of running an empire. He is not. The fear and misery translates to power in the Dark Side, and that is what he's talking about when he refers to ultimate power. A dark being he is; not that frail flesh.
