The Real-Life Captain Morgan Was More Interesting Than His Rum

Ойын-сауық

When you hear the name "Captain Morgan," images of bros posing with a handle of spiced rum with one foot danging precariously in the air probably come to mind. While there were plenty of pirates whose reputations were built on boozin' it up with bar wenches à la modern rum-guzzling frat bros, the real Captain Morgan is not one of them.
Sir Henry Morgan doesn't sound like the name one of the most terrifying pirates in the Caribbean - but the ruthless Captain Henry Morgan propelled himself to fame and riches by terrorizing his enemies and seizing a fortune in gold from the Spanish. The history of piracy is full of surprises, and these Henry Morgan facts are no exception.

@@grimsonforce7504 well that is seriously misguided if it happens. In Canada where I'm from, we view social programming as a service we give to ourselves. The middle class and the working class generate all the wealth, through our governments we choose to give ourselves social supports. And one of the biggest protections we have is the fact that we ban corporate donations into the political process. Most of our elected officials are not millionaires or billionaires as a result.

I lived in the Caribbean for almost ten years and became a serious rum head- Captain Morgan’s is nasty. And for the record, I’ve got a buddy on one island that’s been dressing as a pirate for years. Like, almost every day. He threw legendary pirate parties on a beach at midnight. Twenty or so pirate flags in the sand, pirate music, loads of booze and a weapons table with throwing axes, knives, swords, and wooden targets. Still amazed nobody ever died...

Days later, from the crows nest, a pair are warned 4 enemy shops are fast approaching! Capt. BrVo yelled man your stations and bring me my red shirt! They fought the battle and won. That evening, sitting around with their spoils of war, a pirate asked, Capt Bravo, you lead us into battles that we certainly would not try, you bring out the best of us in battle why though, do you ask for your red shirt before battle? Capt Bravo tells them, the red will hide my blood from you if I were to be injured, I wouldn’t want you to know and you all will continue fighting. Oh, they are so pleased with Capt. Bravo, what a fine Captain he is. The next day, from the crows nest, 7 enemy ships are approaching!!! Capt Bravo yelled, Bring me my brown pants!!!!!!

I loved this episode simply because I am from Panama, the place that Capt. Morgan raided and massacred so many, and yet in my country we learn so little as to why he did what he did and really who was he. We’re just thought to basically hate the man, this was absolutely interesting to learn about him and how much of a bad ass he really was, the crazy part about this is that I’ve been plenty of time in Portobelo and the city that he destroyed, it’s intense to see. just found this channel, definitely subscribing! Thanks
